Same problem on Mint 17.3 Cinnamon x64. The setup finish correctly (it seems). Had to install Lubuntu 12.04 on a VM for some task at hand and stumbled across the same issue. Solution given in #5 works perfectly but it still baffles me how such a bug can exists for such a long time (bug was reported in 2012 now we are reaching slowly the end of 2014). Got this error while installing Mint Maya 13 XFCE 32bit from live DVD. Problem solved when I created a bootable USB with Image Writer application, and removing slideshow with apt-get in terminal. I'm currently installing Linux Mint 16 Mate 32bit. I build the ISO with the dd command because UNetbooting wasn't working (unable to boot flavors of ubuntu, also mint) I got the same error. I chose to ignore it and the instalation continues. I also got in on Ubuntustudio 12.10 and the workaround suggested by Serhiy Kuznyetsov worked for me.
