[Bug 990244] Re: boot screen graphic destroyed

2012-05-02 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only
that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking
on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the
bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 990244] Re: boot screen graphic destroyed

2012-04-30 Thread Carsten Holzmüller
Here is a photo of the problem...

... and I found an other very strange behavior. If I boot in the rescue
mode, then I've no boot splash (That's normal, I know). Now I press
Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart and boot ubuntu in the normal mode. In this case
the boot splash works!!! But if the boot before also in normal mode
(means no rescue) then the boot splash is corrupted. Maybe the problem
is the previously shutdown. Maybe the shutdown leaves somesing behind,
which corrupts the splash by the next boot.

[Bug 990244] Re: boot screen graphic destroyed

2012-04-30 Thread Carsten Holzmüller
Ubuntu 12.04 was a fresh installation (no upgrade).
But yes, this bug happens also with former ubuntu versions. I've this problem
also with my old computer (also nvidia graphic card).

And yes, there was a unbuntu version in the past where the boot splash
was normal (on my old computer), but I don't know which one. Sorry, not
very helpfull, I know.

Maybe this has something to do with my problem, but the fix don't work for me:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-the-Big-and-Ugly-Plymouth-Logo-in-Ubuntu-10-04-140810.shtml

However, the /usr/share/doc/plymouth/README.Debian file means:
"For nVidia and ATI users, the default "nouveau" and "radeon" drivers are
Kernel Mode Setting enabled, but do not always provide 3D capability at the
current time. By switching to using the restricted/non-free nvidia-glx or
fglrx drivers, you will gain 3D capability at the loss of a high-color splash
screen."

[Bug 990244] Re: boot screen graphic destroyed

2012-04-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.
