[Bug 990292] Re: Black Login Screen - GMA500 (After Wiki Fixes Applied)
Crucias, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, regarding your Bug Description: >"Applied fixes from the Wiki: Alt+F1 -> Login -> sudo service lightdm restart >-> add "console=tty1" to grub." Could you please provide the wiki URL? As well, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text: needs-upstream-testing If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. [Bug 990292] Re: Black Login Screen - GMA500 (After Wiki Fixes Applied)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected staging ** Description changed: HP Slate 500 (GMA500) running Precise 12.04 Desktop (i386) installed from the liveCD upon release day. Applied fixes from the Wiki: Alt+F1 -> Login -> sudo service lightdm restart -> add "console=tty1" to grub. Rebooted and still getting the purple screen then black screen and login sound. Booted into recovery but couldn't do anything because the Bezel keys don't work for menu selection in the Recovery Menu unlike in GRUB. So hard reset the device again and booted Ubuntu itself, this time it worked. Rebooted the device, chose Ubuntu and back to the black screen issue. However every subsequent time I use the Recovery Mode, Hard Reset, Ubuntu it works (loads the screen and can see the login menu). This device also has Windows 8 on it and it has no problems with graphics and logging in (so not hardware issue). Summary: console=tty1 applied to GRUB (correctly) boot to purple then black screen and no text at all Boot into recovery, do nothing Hard reset Boot Ubuntu and it loads lightdm + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu6 + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 0: MID [HDA Intel MID], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: crucias1977 F pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: command ['iw', 'reg', 'get'] failed with exit code 1: nl80211 not found. + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'MID'/'HDA Intel MID at 0x940c irq 40' +Mixer name : 'Silicon Image SiI1392 HDMI' +Components : 'HDA:111d7603,103c145a,00100202 HDA:10951392,,0010' +Controls : 25 +Simple ctrls : 11 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=cf7e4213-3f6d-47ae-848e-d9049b052ea5 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release i386 (20120423) + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Slate 500 + NonfreeKernelModules: wl + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=en_NZ:en + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_NZ.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 psbfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-generic-pae root=UUID=9d9c11fc-4b8b-4344-a524-44cbfc3fd890 ro quiet splash console=tty1 mem=1920mb vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic-pae 3.2.14 + PulseList: + Error: command ['pacmd', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: Home directory /home/crucias not ours. + No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon. + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.2.0-24-generic-pae N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.2.0-24-generic-pae N/A + linux-firmware1.79 + SourcePackage: linux + StagingDrivers: psb_gfx + Tags: precise staging precise staging + Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic-pae i686 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: + + dmi.bios.date: 11/22/2010 + dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.bios.version: F.04 + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: 145A + dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.board.version: 681B + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: CNU0S9 + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.chassis.version: N/A + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrF.04:bd11/22/2010:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPSlate500:pvr04971020290001033:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn145A:rvr681B:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct10:cvrN/A: + dmi.product.name: HP Slate 500 + dmi.product.version: 04971020290001033 + dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990292/+attachment/3126723/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990292 Title: Black Login Screen - GMA500 (After Wiki Fixes Applied) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990292/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990292] Re: Black Login Screen - GMA500 (After Wiki Fixes Applied)
I don't have those keys on the Bezel (it is a Slate). I have to apply that fix as per the instructions on the Wiki for the drivers. It says use that fix to correct the black screen login, however it does not work. If I use those commands on the keyboard, it gives me a text based login. However, this is useless without the On-Screen-Keyboard. It worked in the liveCD, but not for the actual install -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990292 Title: Black Login Screen - GMA500 (After Wiki Fixes Applied) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/990292/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
