[Bug 990749] Re: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04
paipol, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990749 Title: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Vimicro generic vc0321 Camera Installation kept crashing at avatar selection, due to the webcam compatibility issue. After rmmod gspca_vc032x gspca_main installation went well. Now that the system is installed, I have tested the webcam with cheese, getting a segmentation fault dmesg | grep gspca gives a lot of these errors [ 2214.807050] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [5] len=0, status=-71 [ 2944.566202] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [6] len=0, status=-71 [ 2944.730201] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [27] len=0, status=-71 [ 2944.830197] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [27] len=0, status=-71 [ 2944.866199] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [5] len=0, status=-71 [ 2945.030214] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [26] len=0, status=-71 [ 2945.130200] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [26] len=0, status=-71 [ 2945.230196] gspca_main: ISOC data error: [25] len=0, status=-71 I have managed to solve the issue by installing kernel 3.0.29 and the webcam works fine with that one. [Bug 990749] Re: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04
Same problem with kernel 3.2.0-29-generic-pae. Updated gspca driver (http://moinejf.free.fr/gspca-2.15.18.tar.gz) did not solve the problem for me. Cheese still fails shortly after showing scrambled green screen and dmesg shows the same ISOC data errors as in bug description. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990749 Title: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gspca/+bug/990749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

According to Debian bugtracker workaround is downgrading kernel to 3.1.8 or using updated gspca driver. http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2.18-precise/ http://moinejf.free.fr/gspca-2.15.18.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990749 Title: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gspca/+bug/990749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had the same problem with the install as well. Installation quit after user creation when the icon select/user photo prompt came up. It tried to use the webcam, but the webcam had a green screen and killed the installer. lsmod | grep -i gspca turned out to show gspca_vc032x and gspca_main being used. lsusb Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0ac8:c002 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.
