I've found this is and old problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/736171 I have to say that going through launchpad bug pages there are many bugs like this one, that kills a Linux user, or at least a Ubuntu user. I'm kind of an advanced user that will keep trying, but... How can we solve bug #1? After installing the compat-wireless backport the connection is more stable, but still hangs many times. As a potential workaround, could you please try the compat-wireless backport kernel noted in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-backports-modules-3.2.0 ? If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
