[Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
Priyank, I should have mentioned it before but I installed a new kernel from the mainline builds: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds?action=showredirect=KernelMainlineBuilds And not via an update. These are easy to install and use for testing. I've tested a few and the lowest that I have tested 3.2.14-030214 -generic-pae seem to have resolved the wireless switch problem, so theoretically, anything higher than that should be OK too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
Like the original poster I am using Ubuntu 12.04, having upgraded from 10.04, and am also using a Dell 1525. However unlike the OP I have the Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02) wireless device compared to his Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g but we both have the same problem with the wireless switch. My kernel version is 3.2.0-24.39. I have attached the output of lspci. ** Attachment added: Output of lspci https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+attachment/3165428/+files/lspci.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
I should add that I have just tested kernel 3.2.14-030214-generic-pae and whilst the problem remained, typing into the CLI: modprobe iwl3945 Seemed to get my wireless working again from the desktop with no need for a restart. After that I tried again in kernel 3.2.0-24.39 and the switch works again there too now without any input from me. I booted up and into the desktop with the switch in the off position and when I turned it on, it automatically connected to a wireless network. I don't know whether that is to do with modprobe, or whether there has been an update or what, but the problem, for me at least, seems to be resolved.
Here is the report of lpsci. The system monitor is showing the following: Release 12.04 (precise) 32-bit Kernel Linux 3.2.0-24-generic-pae GNOME 3.4.1. As per Pablo 180 there is a Kernel update but my update manager is not showing that update. The problem is still there. I didn't categorised the bug in nettools it was changed by someone I think the ubuntu people did that. ** Attachment added: Output of lspci https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+attachment/3165620/+files/Report -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
I've been trying kernel 3.4 for the past few days (to try and resolve another issue) and I can confirm that the wireless button works fine in 3.4. I can now boot up with the switch off (it boots much quicker with wireless off) and then switch wireless on at the desktop and my wireless works fine and switching the wireless on and off as required works as before (as it did in 10.04). I have no idea if this was fixed in an earlier kernel than 3.4. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995992] Re: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525
Thanks for reporting this and helping to make Ubuntu better. We need some more info from you in order to make progress on this issue. Can you please provide the output of lspci, the version of your kernel, and the type of system you are using? Also, this bug does not belong in gnome-nettool, as this is a tool set designed to run commands like ping, traceroute, etc, it does NOT manage network connections or hardware. ** Changed in: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Package changed: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu) = ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995992 Title: Wireless not working properly on my Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
