Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

3.4.1-0ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen

When selecting the new window option from Gedit quick list a window with
ONE tab should be opened.

4) What happened instead

When selecting the new window option from the Gedit quick list a new
window with TWO tabs is opened. This happens only when one or more Gedit
windows is already open. If the option is used when no Gedit windows are
open the new window has only one tab.
