FM33, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Precise?

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2013-09-14 Thread FM33
I can't say it because this machine had precise for first OS.
It was working fine on the former machine with Ubuntu 11.10 and is still
working on Mint Debian Ed with 3.2 kernel.
Former PC hardware : Motherboard Asus P5ND2SE, GPU Nvidia (with proprietary
driver in Ubuntu and now Nouveau in LMDE). Can't tell more details about bios
or gpu model for now because the PC needs repair.

Re-tested it in saucy live. Works better than previous test : The device
is detected after replug. With live CD, it is not detected during boot
because linux-firmware-nonfree package is not installed by default.

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2013-08-30 Thread FM33
A web search led me to discover that the firmware provided with ubuntu
is out of date, despite the fact that the most recent was released in
2010 :

$ md5sum /lib/firmware/dvb-usb-af9015.fw
dccbc92c9168cc629a88b34ee67ede7b /lib/firmware/dvb-usb-af9015.fw

532b8e1eabd3b4e9f8ca084b767e4470 dvb-usb-af9015(4).fw
5c2da8881b8be5161c7db8ef94711cf5  dvb-usb-af9015.fw  == Most recent from
http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/af9015//

Just replaced it and crossing fingers. I'll wait to check if it solves
the issue before trying the (non downgradable) bios update.

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2013-08-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
FM33, as per
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=engProductFamily=Desktop+BoardsProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+6+Series+Chipset+BoardsProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DH67BL
an update is available for your BIOS (0160). If you update to this, does
it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2013-08-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
FM33, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2012-07-31 Thread FM33
I saw a new error message af9015 did not find the firmware file and found a
track here with google :
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-906892-start-0.html
Do you insert the device before or after the filesystem is mounted. If the
driver is built-in and you insert it before the filesystem is mounted (read:
the device is there at boot), it's impossible for it load the firmware, because
it's on the yet-to-be-mounted filesystem.

but i don't know what to do to check is it is the problem, or how to
change the moment when the firmware is loaded.

[Bug 998360] Re: af9015: random detection issue

2012-05-23 Thread Andy Whitcroft
This does not appear to be a firmware related issue, we are failing to
talk to the device at all. Moving to the kernel.
