Regarding the lack of HDMI audio, it is disabled by default for ATI
Radeon.  According to the developer Alex Deucher, The current HDMI code
causes blank screens on a lot of systems if audio is enabled. Until that
gets fixed properly, I thought it better to disable it. 

Add radeon.audio=1 to your kernel boot options in GRUB to enable the
HDMI audio support.
