I've checked; they are disabled (the non proprietary driver does not support 3d acceleration). The hanging is quite erratic; I've been texing all the afternoon; shifting from emacs to xpdf is ok when I click on the titlebar; it's ok sometimes clicking on the window; it hangs always using alt-tab.
