Actually I was running it from ubuntu's repositories.
But as you mentioned, I tryied to get the package directaly from the source
and compile it.
Guess what, look at this change in 2.8.4:
"Elimination of all persistent startup daemons. hpssd has been replaced with
hp-systray that loads as a user startup item in the system tray in each
user's desktop environment"
So yes, it now runs fine.
My suggestion: upgrade the package in hardy to this version, and things will
probally work smoother than with 2.8.2 that is the current (I was updating
every day the distro) one in 8.04.

Nothing, the only log that contains something relevant is user.log:

When I run hp-check, I have only one error: SIP not found, but I don't know
witch SIP is that, because I've installed the sip package and nothing
happened:

Looks like some service is missing (I don't know whitch one because
synamptic does not found anything related to hpssd.
