If you choose to update it, please only use the latest BIOS image from
the manufacturer of the laptop and not anywhere else. I say this because
you said that you googled for it.

I'd wait for a reply from a kernel hacker about this before trying to
upgrade the BIOS. I've never had a BIOS upgrade failure, though.

I assume that it can be useful that you attach the ouput of 'dmesg' in
one of those sessions where it booted succesfully.
