 Hi Matthieu Baerts,

Can you confirm if this is still an issue with Karmic fullly updated.
It seems to be solved now. (i was experiencing this too)

 Thanks in advance.

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: pulseaudio

 Hello,

I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 64bit with PulseAudio 1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu1

My speakers work well but now I haven't any sound with the jack output. All
was fine with PA 1:0.9.15 (except my internal microphone but I suppose it's
 due to Alsa)
If I do a right click on the sound applet (gnome-volume-control-pulse) /
 Preferences / Hardware : I have nothing ! (I'm almost sure that i had
 something before !)

 Thanks !

Actually the pavucontrol worked for me on an acer aspire 4306z laptop. The
volume of the headphones was turned down.

I have the same problem. No audio when plugging in the headphones. The
internal speakers of my laptop work fine.

None of the suggested workarounds (pavucontrol, alsamixer) has helped.
 The headphones remain silent.

Try clearing all pulse related files from your home directory, and
restarting pulseaudio, either by running pulseaudio -k in a terminal,
or logging out, and back in again.

 affects ubuntu/pulseaudio

My hardware list is now like before I think but no sound with jack
output. Sound from speakers is muted when I plug a jack in my soundcard
but I can't hear anything in my headphones or my hifi.

Ok, I suggest that you isntall pavucontrol and try setting the correct
output with that, under the hardware tab. The applet in the panel does
not et have a complete set of controls for configuring audio output, but
I have been assured they will be added in the coming months.

PS : can you confirm the fact that my internal microphone isn't
recognized is due to Alsa ?

Have you already reported a bug about this? If so, can you please give
me the bug number? If not, and there are no other bugs that are the same
as yours, please open a new bug reporting this issue. File the bug
against alsa-base, with the ubuntu-bug command, like so: ubuntu-bug
alsa-base

Thanks

Luke

Ok, if you are still not getting any sound when the headphones selection
is made, and all volumes are turned up and unmuted, then there is a
problem somewhere. Can you check in the alsa mixer, with the alsamixer
command in a terminal, that if you have a headphone volume control, that
it is unmuted and turned up?

Have you already reported a bug about this? If so, can you please give me

 Yes, bug #252119 :
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/252119/comments/16
In fact all Medion MD96640 hadn't any sound on Ubuntu Hardy due to a bug in
Alsa. This bug was solved on Jaunty but the internal microphone don't still
 works.
I can open a new bug if you prefer ?

No, thats fine, I will take a look when I get the chance in the next day
or so.
