Yes. Update fails at the very beginning of the process. I am using the graphical (GUI) version for the actual update, but using the command line for all of the apt-get commands being suggested. It appears that something is wrong with the four components shown in prior posts. I am reluctant to uninstall tzdata and grub. I've not yet tried to uninstall wine or wine1.2. What more can I do/send? And, by the way, thanks, very much, for your interest and follow-up posts. apt-get, when run from a terminal window, completed very quickly, almost as if it really didn't do anything. There were no messages, for example, it just returned to the command prompt. Launching the update manager (graphical version) then downloaded 135 updates but failed in exactly the same way as before.
