Update: issue is possible not related to Firefox; laptop got frozen while firefox was opened but not on top of everything. [Bug 367215] [NEW] Build Search Index fails because there's no htdig
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: khelpcenter I just installed Kubuntu 9.04. In KHelpCenter, I typed in the search box. The left-hand panel switched to the Search tab, but only UNIX manuals was available. So I clicked [Build Search Index...] and checked Application Manuals and clicked [Build index]. That popped up a window that quickly displayed Index creation finished, but its Index creation log (below) said htdig failed. I think the root failure is there is no /usr/bin/htdig program on my system. The right thing to do is for the Kubuntu installer to build search indexes. Having to do it myself isn't user-friendly. [Bug 367231] [NEW] can't delete some messages from trash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Some times, it is impossible to delete some mails from the trash folder. I right-click on the local Trash folder icon - Empty trash. Some files are deleted but other stay present: always the same ones. I expected all files to be deleted. There is no way to delete these. Workaround: 1. stop evolution 2. execute: $ rm ~/.evolution/mail/local/*.{cmeta,index,ev-summary} 3. restart evolution and give it some time for rebuilding the index files After that, it is possible to delete again files from the local Trash. [Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)
A few informations to stop these scared comments: :-) - unchecking 'Enable indexing' in System-Preferences-Search indexing should be sufficient to stop trackerd, at least after restarting your session if it's hanging - you can prevent trackerd from starting by going to System-Preferences-Startup Applications, and unchecking the Tracker daemon - you can always stop trackerd using Alt+F2 and then typing 'killall trackerd', or 'killall trackerd -9' if it's not quitting - you can completely remove Tracker from your system by removing the tracker package, without any risk for your system - Tracker was actually installed by default in previous versions, which explains why it may be installed in your box without you doing anything for that. But note that it has always been *disabled* by default. - there is no 'trackerd' executable in your path, it's in /usr/lib/tracker/trackerd since it's not meant to be started manually But apart from that, Tracker is a great tool!
