[Bug 280762] Re: knetworkmanager under kde4 doesn't recognize the static IP connections that I have configured.

Edit to above: the solution was only temporary.
I noticed that both knetworkmanager and plasma-widget-network-manager were
installed, removing knetworkmanager solved the issue.

[Bug 367217] [NEW] Artec T1 AN2235 DVB USB is not detected by Jaunty Kernel

2009-04-26 Thread Obrouni
Public bug reported:

It appears that my Artec T1 AN2235 DVB USB device is no longer detected
by the Jaunty Kernel (2.6-28.11) . Plugging the device into a machine
running Hardy, the device is detected.

lsusb:-
Bus 004 Device 005: ID 0547:2235 Anchor Chips, Inc. AN2235 EZUSB-FX
Microcontroller

I believe this has something to do with the device having a faulty usb device
id as the dmesg output from my Jaunty machine:-

[ 1913.364014] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
[ 1913.510324] usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Compares to my Hardy machine (Yes I know I am missing the firmware, but
thats easily fixed):-

[ 241.999804] usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
[ 242.191982] usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 243.390354] dvb-usb: found a 'Artec T1 USB1.1 TVBOX with AN2235 (faulty USB
IDs)' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
[ 243.497369] dvb-usb: did not find the firmware file.
(dvb-usb-dibusb-an2235-01.fw) Please see linux/Documentation/dvb/ for more
details on firmware-problems. (-2)
[ 243.497424] dvb_usb_dibusb_mb: probe of 1-2:1.0 failed with error -22
[ 243.497485] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dibusb_mb

The key point i think is this line:-

found a 'Artec T1 USB1.1 TVBOX with AN2235 (faulty USB IDs)

Has something changed in the kernel to not enable the faulty USB IDs
config option, or is it something to do with this patch:-

http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/3207/

Many Thanks

[Bug 366705] Re: Firefox freezes Jaunty while typing in address bar

2009-04-26 Thread rpsu
Update: issue is possible not related to Firefox; laptop got frozen
while firefox was opened but not on top of everything. I did uninstall a
KcheckGMail while having a few other programs opened as well (firefox,
Filezilla, a couple of terminal windowses, Oracle Database 10g Express
running on background) and right after uninstall was finished OS
freezed. Add+remove applications -sowtware was asking if I wanted to
continue or exit the program and that was the end of the session. Power
down + power up again.

To be clear enough; i was not typing anything to anywhere (on the
browser nor anywhere else) at that time.

Next time you get a black screen, after restart please attach your

[Bug 367219] [NEW] kubuntu install should build the KDE Help Center index

2009-04-26 Thread skierpage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity-frontend-kde

I just installed Kubuntu 9.04
In KHelpCenter 4.2.2, I typed in the search box. The left-hand panel switched
to the Search tab, but only UNIX manuals was available. I couldn't find
anything, not even terms in pages I'd just viewed.
That's lame. There's an awesome set of documentation here, searching in it
should Just Work.

I think the Kubuntu installer should build the KHC search index.

I tried to do this myself by clicking [Build Search Index...] but that
failed, I filed separate bug 367215.

[Bug 367221] [NEW] fontwork cant be selected

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

After creating a Fontwork objekt and deselecting it by clicking
somewhere in the document, i can't select it any more.

If the reference-point of this Objekt is in the top left corner, the
only way of selecting this fontwork-objekt is by breating a new one,
editing the other, go back to the new fontwork an remove it.

If the reference-point is somewhere else in the page you can mark it via
the selection-tool by trying to select the whole page.

In OOo2.4 you can select such a fontwork-objekt by clicking on it - it
would be the obvious way ;)

[Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)

2009-04-26 Thread Noel J. Bergman
@Matteo: I was not criticizing tracker -- that I am trying to wort
around this bug by purging the files and disabling the feature. And I
made an explicit point of saying to Jamie -- you know, the author --
that my turning off the feature was *not* a criticism of his code. I
just don't use or want the feature.

@Chris: if that's the case, then why have I had to turn it off on
multiple installs? Was it on by default in the past, and that's a carry
over? Moreover, In fact, why do I have:

[Bug 193970] Re: iwl3945 | iwl4965: Wireless can't be activated after disabling kill switch

2009-04-26 Thread Motin
This is not fixed in Jaunty final, at least not for XPS M1330. After
having the killswitch enabled (wifi disabled) when waking up from
resume, I need to right-click network manager, deactive wireless, then
activate it again. Only then the wireless LED lights up again and
wireless networks are found. At times when doing this, kernel panic
occurs, so I am not to fond of the workaround...

This is the same behavior that existed in Intrepid before the SRU that
fixed in in the .27 kernel. This is a regression in other words.

@Matteo: Try right clicking as I described, it should work and is more
convenient than rmmod.

[Bug 366678] Re: 9.04 fails to boot on HP DV2-1030US laptop

2009-04-26 Thread Jarred
I managed to solve my problem. It turned out to be to issues;

1:) I did not have my USB mouse and Keyboard enabled in BIOS (thus only
functional once booted). As soon as I either enabled them in BIOS or
unplugged them this error message was resolved. I think Ubuntu was
making the mistake of assuming they were USB storage?

2:) Secondly I could not boot to a splash screen or anything remotley
graphical. I had a second monitor (Projector) plugged in to the second
(DVI) port but not turned on. It seems the installer could not
rationalise between my LCD monitor and projector. As soon as I unplugged
it no problems.

It all seems to simple looking back on it, but there you go.

[Bug 358889] Re: Ghost Mouse coursor images on multiple monitor setup

2009-04-26 Thread Colin Norris
I'm on 9.04 amd64 now, upgraded from 8.10 using Update Manager. I'm
using version 180 of the Nvidia driver with my GTX 260. I've got two
monitors configured as separate X screens, and if I move the mouse
pointer from one screen to the other it always leaves a ghost behind.

[Bug 367215] [NEW] Build Search Index fails because there's no htdig

2009-04-26 Thread skierpage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: khelpcenter

I just installed Kubuntu 9.04.

In KHelpCenter, I typed in the search box. The left-hand panel switched
to the Search tab, but only UNIX manuals was available. So I clicked
[Build Search Index...] and checked Application Manuals and clicked
[Build index]. That popped up a window that quickly displayed Index
creation finished, but its Index creation log (below) said htdig
failed. I think the root failure is there is no /usr/bin/htdig program
on my system.

The right thing to do is for the Kubuntu installer to build search
indexes. Having to do it myself isn't user-friendly.

[Bug 367228] [NEW] Pidgin freeze by group fusion

2009-04-26 Thread Zilvador
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Pidgin freezes after I renamed one group and accepted its offer to
fusion to groups. There was no group with the new name and the only
change made in the old name was capitalizing the first letter. It still
asked me and froze afterwards.

I have a slow and unreliable connection, but I believe that the
connection was stable at the time of breakdown. Pidgin had been started
about a minute before this and was fully functional and connected when
this came up. I have let Pidgin be for about ten minutes after this
without change. The dialog window is visible, but empty and all menu
objects have dissappeared from the contact list.

[Bug 363606] Re: thinkfinger authentication not working after upgrade to 9.04

2009-04-26 Thread Ido
I have a similar problems on a Thinkpad T61.

On the login-screen finger scanning does not seem to work.
And on the command line using sudo it does work but only if i press 'enter'
after a valid finger scan. (which is very hard to know since you have no futher
feedback)

Also acquiring the finger scanner device is dog slow, it takes 4 to 5
seconds to acquire the device while in Ubuntu 8.10 it was instant.

Needless to say, the fingertools are pretty much useless in terms of
usability on Ubuntu 9.04

[Bug 367231] [NEW] can't delete some messages from trash

2009-04-26 Thread Pierre François
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Some times, it is impossible to delete some mails from the trash folder.

I right-click on the local Trash folder icon - Empty trash.

Some files are deleted but other stay present: always the same ones. I
expected all files to be deleted. There is no way to delete these.

Workaround:
1. stop evolution
2. execute:
 $ rm  ~/.evolution/mail/local/*.{cmeta,index,ev-summary}
3. restart evolution and give it some time for rebuilding the index files

After that, it is possible to delete again files from the local Trash.

I mention I also have spamassassin running heavily as a plugin of
evolution. This introduces delays in the updating of folders, making it
possible that some inconsistence could raise into the indexes.

[Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)

2009-04-26 Thread Milan
A few informations to stop these scared comments: :-)
- unchecking 'Enable indexing' in System-Preferences-Search indexing should
be sufficient to stop trackerd, at least after restarting your session if it's
hanging

- you can prevent trackerd from starting by going to
System-Preferences-Startup Applications, and unchecking the Tracker
daemon

- you can always stop trackerd using Alt+F2 and then typing 'killall
trackerd', or 'killall trackerd -9' if it's not quitting

- you can completely remove Tracker from your system by removing the
tracker package, without any risk for your system

- Tracker was actually installed by default in previous versions, which
explains why it may be installed in your box without you doing anything
for that. But note that it has always been *disabled* by default.

- there is no 'trackerd' executable in your path, it's in
/usr/lib/tracker/trackerd since it's not meant to be started manually

But apart from that, Tracker is a great tool! And, see, it's not so
malicious than you may think...

print 'Position of Configured Video Device =', a.getIdentifier('Device',

[Bug 343268] Re: linux 2.6.28 don't boot

2009-04-26 Thread shayguitarra
I am having what seems to be an identical problem.
MSI K9N SLI Platinum motherboard with AMD 64 Dual Core Processor.
Upgraded to Jaunty on Thursday and cannot boot to 2.6.28-11 or 2.6.27-11. I am
currently booting into kernel 2.6.24-22.

Normal boot leads to hang at 'starting up...' attempted boot into
recovery mode leads to hang at 'PCI (.00.00) Starting HTI MSI
mapping'.

I originally raised this issue on the ubuntu forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1135033

I upgrade to Jaunty yesterday and was able to burn new files to a multi-
session DVD (twice). As Richard wrote, it appears that this problem has
been solved.

[Bug 75209] Re: Workspace switcher generates gtk_widget_size_allocate() warning

2009-04-26 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I have just tested this using the procedure described in steps to
reproduce and this is still here with BOTH compiz and metacity (I do not
believe this is a bug in the window manager as it is being reported by
gnome-panel). The only difference between using compiz or metactiy seems
to be the the size of the dimensions reported (compiz says width -6 and
height 24 whereas when using metacity width -5 and height 24 is
reported)

Version information:
Ubuntu jaunty
gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7

[Bug 367232] [NEW] mdb stops with Got event 137f for unknown pid 8522

2009-04-26 Thread Martin Gondermann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mono-debugger

Hi, the mono-debugger in Jaunty has a serious bug in it, which prevents it from
debugging.
This has to do with a race condition, which only appears with newer kernels.
In the SVN, this bug is already fixed.

see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=423518

Please provide a fixed package for jaunty.

[Bug 365329] Re: HP LaserJet P1005 (using hplip) fails to print in 8.04 and 9.04

2009-04-26 Thread Till Kamppeter
For the printer the wrong driver was selected. The driver for the HP 910
was selected and not for the HP LaserJet 1005. Did system-config-printer
show the steps for choosing manufacturer and model? If you get shown the
manufacturer and model steps, make sure you select HP, LaserJet
P1005, and finally hpijs.

Please post the output of

hp-info -i -d hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P1005?serial=BC174RP --id

This gives the device ID for me to test the driver assignment of system-
config-printer.

The jamming problem seems to be a problem of HPLIP. I add an upstream
task for HPLIP therefore.

home folder permissions:
drwxr-x--x 115 george george 4096 2009-04-26 12:54 george

PDF folder inside home folder permissions:
drwxr-x--- 2 george george 4096 2009-04-26 12:34 PDF

also i attach my /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd

everything works ok with 751 home folder permissions, but not with 750.

I consider this fixed for me.

Thank you all!

You can test it, if it's also working with jaunty. And if yes, you can
upload it to the ppa of the cae-team: https://launchpad.net/~cae-

In order to join the cae-team just ask Patrick, I think that should not
be a problem.

[Bug 226381] Re: Firefox Crashes when trying to open some sites

2009-04-26 Thread John Vivirito
Please file crash bugs using apport-crash reporter. This bug has no
useful info to find the ccause of the crash. Before reporting this bug
using apport please do the following:

2. Use a different profile, You can do this by following the instructions on
the following site:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs
3. If that doesn't help than report the bug using apport. Closing due to lack
of info.

Everyone having Firefox crash file your own bug using apport. My
browser crashes is not the same bug as someone else. There are many
things that cause crashes.
