[Bug 382333] [NEW] Evince does not copy when clicking on selection

2009-06-01 Thread Atanas Atanasov
Public bug reported:

I noticed that evince does not handle the standard X command clicking on
a selection. Most programs simply copy the text to the clipboard, which
can be pasted later (e.g. via the middle mouse button). To reproduce
the bug (or lack of feature more appropriately):

1. Open a pdf file (worked on any I tried)
2. Select some text
3. Click on it
4. Open a text editor (such as emacs)
5. Middle-click in the edit area

The supposedly copied text does not appear, and I believe the problem is
in evince.

[Bug 272509] Re: APTonCD crashes

2009-06-01 Thread Kjell Braden
Please don't abuse the launchpad bug tracker as a support forum. Use
Launchpad Answers or the ubuntuforums instead.

The reason why you can't install the 0.1.98 version is that it was built for
python 2.5 and it conflicts with python 2.6. It is not an official release, but
it is newer than the 0.1 version which you get from sourceforge.
Using the old version 0.1 is just a workaround.

Thanks for your understanding.

[Bug 381981] Re: Some icons and text disappear in OpenOffice (fixed upstream)

2009-06-01 Thread Milan
Again, please be a little more constructive. If you want to help us
making Ubuntu better, you have to understand that this kind of remark
won't get your problem fixed. Providing detailed information in well-
formed sentences will always give the developers more will to help you
than random complaints.

What do you mean by the program is no bearable? Do you refer to the
text on the text document not appearing till I scroll the page as you
said earlier? If so, and since it looks like it's a separate bug, please
open a new report as you did the first time, and provide a screenshot of
the issue if possible, describing in detail what happens. You may want
to post a link to the new bug here so that we can link them if they are
somewhat related.

But before that, I'd still like you to try to reproduce this second bug
using the *free NVidia* driver. I don't expect any developer to look at
your bugs if you don't test this.

the only change in the ubuntu diff is fixed in Debian (from version
0.6.24). Here's the relevant piece of the changelog:

 * Modified patch from Ubuntu to ignore empty files with non-zero

since the bug that the ubuntu diff fixed is fixed in Debian, the ubuntu
diff should just be dropped and the package should be synced.

[Bug 382343] [NEW] please sync midori 0.1.7-1 from debian sid main

2009-06-01 Thread Ryan Niebur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: midori

The ubuntu specific changes are now addressed in the midori in Debian.
Here are the relevant changelog entries:

   * change the default-homepage patch to use the files in debian/config/
to set the default homepage based on whether it's debian, ubuntu,
etc (second half of ubuntu diff)
   * also set a priority number for the alternative in the distro config
file. This sets it to 50 for debian, and 39 for ubuntu (just under
firefox). This addresses the other half of the ubuntu diff.

since the only changes in the ubuntu diff are now made automatically
during build, the ubuntu diff should be dropped and this package should
just be synced.

[Bug 293535] Re: CPU always 100% CPU

2009-06-01 Thread D J Gardner
I've assigned this as a gconf bug, because:
 (a) it fairly clearly is, from the work-arounds
 (b) it just shouldn't happen that certain configuration item should put the
program into a loop.
 (c) this bug needs some activity to stop it being deleted.

Features of this bug as I've seen it:

On upgrading our laptop from intrepid to jaunty (amd64) my login is
fine, but my wife's login suffers from gconfd taking 20-20% CPU.
Running ltrace on the process gives what seems to be a semi-repeating
pattern of:

1. about 400 lines of CORBA_string_dup, gconf_entry_get_is_default,
gconf_entry_get_is_writable, gconf_entry_free, CORBA_string_dup,
gconf_entry_get_value, gconf_fill_corba_value_from_gconf_value,
2. about 400 lines of g_str_hash, which includes an unchanging 6-line repeat
(return codes and parameters unchanging)
3. then about 5 pairs of ORBit_small_allocORBit_small_allocbuff,
Then the CORBA_string_dup lines restart

after a while of this I sometimes get this sort of pattern too:
time(NULL) = 1243842609
gconf_sources_query_value(0x113a300, 0x11ed131, 0x11ea560, 1, 0x75d59d14) = 0
CORBA_string_dup(0x40c726, 0, 0x75d59d80, 0x, 0xfefefefefefefeff) =
0x11d56b1
g_free(0, 0x40c727, 0, 0, 0xfefefefefefefeff)= 0x11d56b1
gconf_locale_list_unref(0x11e34c0, 0x40c727, 0, 0, 0xfefefefefefefeff) = 1
gconf_invalid_corba_value(0x11e34c0, 0x40c727, 0, 0, 0xfefefefefefefeff) =
0x11f9ef0
gconf_log(7, 0x40bfd0, 0x11d56b1, 0x40c296, 88) = 0x60f7a0
gconf_locale_cache_get_list(0x148cc20, 0x11d56b1, 0, 1, 0x75d59da0
unfinished ...
g_str_hash(0x11d56b1, 0x11d56b1, 0, 1, 0x75d59da0) = 0x81510175
g_str_equal(0x11f9e30, 0x11d56b1, 0x4054c0, 0x11d56bc, 0x75d59da0) = 1
... gconf_locale_cache_get_list resumed ) = 0x11e34c0
time(NULL) = 1243842609

Killing gconfd-2 just makes it respawn and the problem is not resolved.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.
Do you have installed thunar-svn-plugin? The crash seems to occur in
tsp_svn_action_class_intern_init() that may be in thunar-svn-plugin (xfce.org
is down so I can't check...).

[Bug 346691] Re: 2.6.28-11 causes massive data corruption on 64 bit installations

2009-06-01 Thread Daniel J Blueman
I previously experienced massive ext4 inode bitmap corruption on an
x86-64 Opteron w/ a CK804 chipset, while performing a large rsync, the
ext4 corruption issue is *not specific* to ICH8/9.

A number of the reports (including duplicate) mention ext4 and the
original report in this LP entry mentions JFS. Are we over-merging bug
reports?

Also, it's crucial to understand if the ext4 corruption has been
observed on i386 systems or not...please mention if you've seen ext4
corruption on i386.

@quixote workaround is:

$ wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.29.4/linux-image-2.6.29-02062904-generic_2.6.29-02062904_amd64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.29-02062904-generic_2.6.29-02062904_amd64.deb
(or _i386.deb if on 32bit)

[Bug 382331] Re: Please update libcairo2-dev to match with installed version of libcairo2

2009-06-01 Thread Chris Coulson
There's no descrepancy - both binary packages are there. What is most
likely to have happened is that you've installed libcairo2 from
intrepid-updates and then disabled intrepid-updates so that you can only
see libcairo2-dev from intrepid-release. Please re-enable intrepid-
updates and run sudo apt-get update and try again.

[Bug 372358] Re: Please merge openvpn 2.1~rc15-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-06-01 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hey Andres, thank you for your work on this !

About testing:
Did you doublecheck that you can still start the password-protected VPNs
manually (after boot) using sudo service openvpn start vpnname and entering
the right password ?

About the changelog entries:
 * Do not use start-stop-daemon and use /dev/null to avoid blocking boot
In fact you're now using start-stop-daemon so it should just read Use
/dev/null to avoid blocking boot
 * Fix VPNs always reported started [ OK ]
This was a fix to our per-VPN patch so mentioning show per-VPN result
messages is sufficient

A few more nitpicking comments:
 * There is some (unneeded) spacing difference in the first three lines of:
---pidfile /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
---exec $DAEMON -- $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
-$DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
---config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf || STATUS=1
+ --pidfile /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
+ --exec $DAEMON -- $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
+ $DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
+   --config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf $script_security  /dev/null || STATUS=1
It could probably be fixed so that the diff doesn't show the first three lines
as different, something like:
---config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf || STATUS=1
+--config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf $script_security  /dev/null ||
STATUS=1

 * I would just drop the lsb-base (= 3.2-14) dependency in
debian/control to match what debian does (we have 3.2-20ubuntu4 in
karmic anyway)

In all cases I'm not a core-dev yet, so someone else still needs to
comment/sponsor this :)

[Bug 379367] Re: gedit add a newline at the end of file.I hope it can be config

2009-06-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
that's not a bug but a design decision, new line chars are useful for
some command line tools and editor and that's something many editors are
doing, having an option for small similar details would rather confuse
users than be useful, if you really need that you should look for an
another editor, gedit will stay simple to use for users

[Bug 307344] Re: Thuner translation to Hebrew needs updating

Hi,

Any progress on that?

The bug is in Thunar: many Hebrew translated strings look incorrect
(they contain some %s or %d whereas the original strings don't).

If there has been no progress, I'll file a bug upstream to have them
removed (better no translations that very broken ones...).

[Bug 365798] Re: cpu frequency scaling not supported after upgrading to 9.04

2009-06-01 Thread the-fallen
During my work with linux-phc I noticed that some combinations of Intel
Pentium M (centrino based) CPUs and BIOSes fail to work using acpi-
cpufreq but working with speedstep-centrino.

The problem is somewhere within the ACPI subsystem that decides that the
system lacks some needed functionality (- SYSTEM_IO_CAPABLE instead of
SYSTEM_MSR_CAPABLE).

Until 8.10 the speedstep-centrino did the work. Not that the Ubuntu devs
decided to compile-in processor drivers speedstep-centrino can not work
(because acpi-cpufreq blocks the device since it took over the
functions).

The only way to those certain users will be to compile their own kernel
and set acpi-cpufreq as module again (or completely remove it) to be
able to use speedstep-centrino again.

[Bug 346691] Re: 2.6.28-11 causes massive data corruption on 64 bit installations

2009-06-01 Thread Julius Schwartzenberg
This bug also occurs with ext3 and other filesystems. If someone
experiences ext4 filesystem corruption on i386, it is not related to
this problem. Maybe some bug reports were over merged.

This bug is specifically about the corruption that occurs on mainly
Compal notebooks with the AMD64 version of Ubuntu irregardless of
filesystem.

[Bug 381332] Re: mksh-38.1-1ubuntu1 (powerpc, sparc) FTBFS (dietlibc breakage)

2009-06-01 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Please sync mksh 38.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
The attached debdiff against the Debian sid version brings the pak-
kage up to date. It fixes the FTBFS on powerpc and sparc (hopeful-
ly) and a memory corruption bug from upstream.

Changelog since current karmic version 38.1-1ubuntu1:

mksh (38.2-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- disable debconf mksh/sh
- do not use -combine for build
  * Apply patch from upstream CVS:
debian/rules: use DEB_BUILD_ARCH, not DEB_HOST_ARCH, to determine
if dietlibc should be excluded on certain architectures where it
is known to fail
  * Exclude dietlibc on powerpc and sparc (LP: #381332)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Mon, 01 Jun 2009 10:06:19 +

mksh (38.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: fix typo in buildd admin instructions for openpty()
  * New upstream version R38b; complete ChangeLog:
- [André Wösten] Add __NO_EXT_QNX to avoid picking up the wrong
waitfor() from libutil.h in (while porting to) QNX 6.4
- [tg] Plug memory corruption issue introduced in R38
- [tg] Amend dot.mkshrc with a base64 en-/decoder in shell
- [tg] Import a manpage fix via OpenBSD from Alan R. S. Bueno
