After a reboot i was having the problem again (forgot to unset SSH_AUTH_SOCK
in my login script, so i'm not sure if that's a long-term fix or not), but
removing the login.keyring solved it for me. Thanks for that tip :).

[Bug 472480] Re: collection scan only finds small fraction of music files, different number on each scan

2009-11-04 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
Did some more digging around... I have 3 scenarios now.

1. Internal database
---
$ rm -dfr ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok ~/.kde/share/config/amarok*
$ amarok --debug > amarok.debug.1 2>&1
--> 2399 tracks
click "Rescan Collection"
--> 0 tracks
click "Rescan Collection"
--> 0 tracks

2. External database

$ rm -dfr ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok

mysql> create database amarok;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> GRANT ALL ON amarok.* TO 'amarok'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'amarok';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

$ amarok --debug > amarok.debug.2 2>&1
--> 747 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 668 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 811 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 1193 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 1141 tracks
Rescan Collection
--> 2671 tracks

Run amarokcollectionscanner manually
--
~ amarokcollectionscanner -r ~/Music > amarok.scan
~ grep -c ' 8607 tracks

See attached files for output of "amarok --debug" and "amarokcollectionscanner".

[Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2009-11-04 Thread Terry S
Hi there

I have the same issue as Micah on Karmic, but I'm using a g550.

Mirrored screens work fine, but trying to get a desktop across both causes that
same error message:
(EE) MGA(1): Unable to map BAR 0. Invalid argument (22)

Works fine until I add the "Monitor1 RightOf Monitor2" line

I also don't have randr, which I think is probably related, although as
I've never had randr, I could be wrong :o)

Not posting a whole log file here as the "Bar 0" line seems to be the
important one (tell me if I'm wrong on that !)

In general, files in the 10-*.conf range come from the procps package and
serve as system defaults. Other packages install their files in the
30-*.conf range, to override system defaults. End-users can use 60-*.conf

[Bug 474008] [NEW] xulrunner often freeze at dnsResolve() when using autoproxy

2009-11-04 Thread yasker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

After upgrade to 9.10 and firefox 3.5, I noticed that on the some pages,
the firefox would be freezed for a while(tens of seconds), then continue
to work. At first I don't know what cause this, and suspect website's
js. But at one time when freezing, firefox told me:

>A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can
>stop the script now, or you can continue to see >if the script will complete.
>
>Script: file:///usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.4/components/nsProxyAutoConfig.js:133

Then I know the reason. I am using autoproxy script in the company, then
I tried one certain proxy and it work. So seems the following function
is the root cause(I don't have this problem when using firefox 3.0):

129 // wrapper for resolving hostnames called by PAC file
130 function dnsResolve(host) {
131 host = XPCSafeJSObjectWrapper(host);
132 try {
133 return dns.resolve(host, 0).getNextAddrAsString();
134 } catch (e) {
135 return null;
136 }
137 }

So I believe there is some reasons that dns.resolve() didn't return
quickly. But seems not due to my proxy server.

Thanks in advance to look into this.

[Bug 442629] Re: Touchpad too much sensitive after upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic

2009-11-04 Thread Mark W. Tomlinson
After a clean install of 9.10 64-bit on my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960
I've encountered what seems to be the same touchpad problem. Moving or
even just hovering a finger over certain parts of the touchpad (approx.
the right 1/3, not including edge) causes the cursor to go nuts. It
flies all over the screen and I never know where it's gonna wind up.

I've adjusted the mouse/touchpad sensitivity as low as it will go with
no change (other than to make other parts of the touchpad unusable).
Also, it works correctly in Windows 7, so I don't think it's a hardware
issue.

Please let me know know what other information I can provide.

[Bug 341819] Re: vlc has crackling sound after standard installation

2009-11-04 Thread Christian Göbel
In Ubuntu 9.10 the reported problem with respect to the dependencies has been
resolved.
When installing VLC via the "Ubuntu Software Center" the required package
"vlc-plugin-pulse" is automatically installed.
Therefore I will close the bug. If there are remaining problems with sound this
should probably reported in a new bug report.
Thanks a lot for fixing this issue!

With gnome-ppp modem works (connected etc), but network manager don't

[Bug 435352] Re: regression: uvcvideo module makes "cannot reset port" error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails

2009-11-04 Thread Peter Curtis
I have now run karmic on my Wind U100 off a LiveCD on a USB CD/DVD
drive.

1. It is impossible to run the LiveCD if the webcam is enabled but it can be
run OK with webcam off.
2. modprobe uncvideo does not have any adverse effects with webcam off
3. Fn F6 key does not work so I can not enable the webcam.
4. Plugging in an alternative USB webcam (0c45:602c) is fine, it is detected
and works in cheese.

I have looked through all the previous linked bug reports and ran xev

1. Fn F6 key is not detected and does not appear to do anything [Jaunty not
detected but obviously works]
2. Fn F10 key is not detected [detected]
3 Fn F11 key is detected and cycles Wifi but not Bluetooth. [cycles both Wifi
and Bluetooth]
4. All other Fn Fx keys are detected [except Fn F2 and Fn F3]
5. Fn F4 and Fn F5 change brightness without problems
6. Fn F12 suspended machine and it came back on fine

I repeated under Jaunty and results are in [ ]. USB webcam detected and
ran but with inferior driver.

Provisional conclusion - not a problem with uncvideo module alone - more
likely to be in key detection and configuration udev etc rules or new
implementation in kernel?? Is there a linkage with brightness problem -
both seem to go back a long way?

[Bug 383345] Re: [i945GM] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2009-11-04 Thread jayprakash
@milos
your problem is unrelated.
i8xx HW cannot display framebuffer larger then 2048x2048.
It's a hardware limitation, not a system BUG.

@Radomirs
Please, at which combined resolution you get the black screen?

@Andcor
Please, what is your hardware?
Ubuntu does not automatically change resolutions after attach of external
display.
Your BUG is unrelated to this one, in this BUG system does not crash.

@MJB-ESOFT
Please write you hardware.
Compiz cannot work at resolution higher that 2048x2048 (yet) on i915/945

[Bug 474016] [NEW] Asus F5N built-in microphone too low to pick up any sound

2009-11-04 Thread Lex Ross
Public bug reported:

When using the system testing tool I cannot hear anything recorded
through the built-in microphone.

When I turn up the sensitivity in the sound preferences to the max it
does seem to pick up sound, albeit with a lot of amplified static.

The speakers are turned up and other sounds play normally (e.g. the
logon sound). The microphone works OK in windows.

Same thing applies to external microphone when connecting a headset. On
top of this, the sound goes to headphones only when speakers (analog
output) is selected in sound preferences. When I select analog
headphones there is no sound. And I do use analog headset with normal
microphone and headphone jacks.

[Bug 474015] [NEW] There are no any ICQ contacts on my list

2009-11-04 Thread Galkin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10 (i386)

empathy:
  Installed: 2.28.1-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.28.1-1ubuntu1

I have a problem with Empathy (and Pidgin too). My ICQ contacts are not
showing. I have two computers: PC and Notebook. On my PC I upgraded
Ubuntu from 9.04, but on my Notebook I installed from LIVE-USB with
Karmic 9.10 two days ago. After that I have no any contacts on my Pidgin
and Empathy. I have also GMAIL (Jabber) and Yahoo! contacts. But they is
displayed finely. I have no idea what's wrong. I try to find any
problems on /var/log/syslog but there ara no any messages. I click on
the Empathy to show empty groups and all my groups (tree) is displayed.
But all of them is empty.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

You can ask for backport in ibex or you can simply use the version from
jaunty. I don't have much knowledge of the code otherwise I would have
tried preparing an update to the version in intrepid.

[Bug 474021] [NEW] gvfsd-smb memory leak

2009-11-04 Thread Peter Runge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Mounted an SMB share using gvfs-mount (also same effect when done
through Places/Network menu item in Gnome). When copying large files
from my hard disk to the network share using ~/.gvfs/[share] memory
usage of the gvfsd-smb process becomes large (had over 4G at one point)
which could be a memory leak. This is repeatable - I tried rebooting
and the process grows again when doing the copy.

Ran valgrind with --leak-check=full over gvfsd-smb. Results attached -
seems to indicate a leak in smbc_set_credentials_with_fallback call in
/usr/lib/libsmbclient.so.0. Console out (redirected to file from a
script) from gvfsd-smb execution has one line
"smbc_set_credentials_with_fallback: allocation fail". Could this be a
bug in libsmbclient instead of gvfs?

Running libsmbclient 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5, gvfs 1.4.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu
9.10. Never experienced this leak before when copying large files in
9.04, only after upgrading to 9.10.

[Bug 422994] Re: sata_via hard resetting link / freeze: exception Emask 0x12 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x1000500 action 0x6

2009-11-04 Thread Surbhi Palande
@JTZ, thanks for your logs and error report. Can you please:

1) also attach the similar output for the kernel 2.6.31 (or karmic) ?
2) It will be great if you could paste a bigger output of dmesg i.e messages
before the error message as well.
3) Also try this:
a) make this file (if it does not exist) in /etc/modprobe.d/options
b) make/add an entry in it:
options libata udma/100
c) *copy* your current initramfs somewhere safe (in the event you fail,
this will be needed)
d) fire the following command to update your existing initramfs:
update-initramfs -u
e) reboot and get the output of hdparm -l /dev/sda and attach it here.
f) test if your data copy works now with this new speed.
