[Bug 684654] Re: system hangs due to blocked filesystem tasks

2010-12-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Also: #588046 was very similar to this bug, but turned out to be a
hardware problem. It would be hard to completely rule that out, but I
can say that SMART on the affected drive reports good health, no errors,
and successful short and long selftests.

[Bug 683893] Re: Please merge writer2latex 1.0.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-12-03 Thread Dave Walker
@Angel, thanks for adding a new debdiff.

It's worth noting that source/distro/doc/user-manual.odt could not be
represented in the diff, as it is a binary file. That will need
retrieving from the upstream tarball by whomever sponsors.

Package builds fine on Natty, +1.

Thanks for the report. Could you follow the procedure For users [users-

Please reproduce this until you get the error message, else the

[Bug 511511] Re: Nautilus not start

2010-12-03 Thread karlrt
I can confirm this. Is there anyone accually having no problems with
nautilus integration in docky at all? I had this with gnome-do in 10.04,
and now the same again with docky in 10.10, on different hardware and
installations, so it looks like a very general issue!

I also think this is a serious issue, because it is wide-spread (everyone uses
a file-browser every day, and wants to use it in docky)
If you look at the bug heat, this bug is the hottest in docky, so IMHO it
shouldnt be considered as low importance!

[Bug 284250] Re: intrepid: network proxy ignore host list ignored for wildcard

2010-12-03 Thread Oliver Dungey
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 556293 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556293

This bug is not a duplicate of bug #556293! As was stated above this is
to do with firefox's manner of using the gnome proxy settings. From what
I have seen Google Chrome and Firefox interpret the rules very
differently - one likes wildcards and the other likes the mask syntax.

We have been struggling for years with Ubuntu and proxy server support
and it is a huge issue prohibiting general use in the enterprise. I
think we need some new thinking:

If Ubuntu arrived out of the box with a squid proxy server setup in
transparent mode with a virtual nic then no applications would need to
know about proxy servers - that is how we fix it.

[Bug 677382] Re: gir-repository fails to build from source in natty: eliminate reverse dependencies

2010-12-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gupnp-av - 0.6.3-0ubuntu1

---
gupnp-av (0.6.3-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. This now works with our current g-i.
  * debian/control: Bump libgirepository1.0-dev build dependency as per
new upstream configure check.
  * Drop deprecated and unnecesary gir-repository-dev build dependency.
(LP: #677382)
  * debian/rules: Build with CFLAGS=-Wl,--no-as-needed to fix GIR building.
  * tests/Makefile.{am,in}: Bandaid patch to add missing libraries, to build
with gcc 4.5. This has been restructured in trunk and thus isn't a case
for forwarding upstream.

[Bug 393818] Re: libpaper should honor the LC_PAPER instead of /etc/papersize

2010-12-03 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Bruce Korb:
1. You cannot use printer as the only source for the paper size. For example,
even if I didn't have any installed printers, I'd expect following command to
work:
$ man -t groff paperconf | ps2pdf - -  paperconf.pdf
Which paper size should the resulting PDF file have? Currently the output PDF
file paper size depends only on /etc/papersize. If you don't have root access,
you cannot currently change the result.

2. LC_PAPER should contain full locale instead of just paper name
because LC_PAPER can/could also specify localizations for paper names
(e.g. letter is kirje in Finnish and I'd expect this paper name
specified by LC_PAPER locale).

3. POSIX locales include stuff like LC_COLLATE (sorting order) and (only
in draft) LC_PAPER for paper size exactly for the reason that you may
want to specify these differently. The LC_ALL is only a shortcut to
override all specific settings.

Could you specify which program the command ./paper refers to in your
result display? I guess that's not a standard program because you
referred to it with a relative path.

[Bug 684673] [NEW] Key 9 from main keyboard behaves as 8 in Wine if Lithuanian (lt) keyboard mapping is active (Workaround exist)

2010-12-03 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

Key 9 from main keyboard acts as 8 in Wine if Lithuanian (lt) keyboard
mapping is active. This bug exists in all wine versions, including 1.2
and 1.3.8 (tested with Ubuntu Linux 10.04.1)

It's very easy to reproduce (you must have lt_LT.UTF-8 locale definition
files installed in your system, run 'locale -a |grep lt'):

1. Set keyboard mapping to Lithuanian and start Wine notepad in lt_LT locale:
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ setxkbmap lt
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ LANG=lt_LT.UTF8 notepad

2. Hold AltGr (right Alt) key and press 9 key (from main keyboard,
bellow F7-F9, not from numeric keyboard) and you will see number 8 in
notepad instead of 9

3. Hold Shift key and press 8, then 9, then 0 keys (from main keyboard,
bellow F7-F9) and you will see ŪŪ) instead of Ū()

This is very important problem for Lithuanians, as we can't write number
9 and left round bracket when Lithuanian keymap is active during startup
of WINE, because key 9 from main keyboard acts like key 8 :(

WORKAROUND: if US or RU keymap is active during startup of software,
which uses WINE (like notepad), and You change keymap to Lithuanian only
when WINE is already running, then key 9 works correctly:

1. Set keyboard mapping to US and LT, then start Wine notepad in lt_LT locale:
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ setxkbmap us,lt
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ LANG=lt_LT.UTF8 notepad

2. Change keyboard mapping from US to LT with GNOME keyboard indicator
(it appears in gnome panel's notification area when you run setxkbmap
us,lt)

3. Now key 9 works correctly - Hold AltGr (right Alt) key and press 9
key (from main keyboard) and you will see number 9 ; Hold Shift key and
press 8, then 9, then 0 keys (from main keyboard) and you will see Ū()

Lithuanian translation / Lietuviškai :

Norint, kad veiktų kairys skliaustelis ir skaičius 9 su lietuvišku klaviatūros
išdėstymu Windows programose reikia, kad pagrindinis klaviatūros išdėstymas
būtų nustatytas į anglišką, pvz JAV (US) ar kitokį, o lietuvišką išdėstymą
įjungti tik tuomet, kai pasileidžia Windows programa.
Tai paprasčiausia padaryti nuėjus į Sistema-Nustatymai-Klaviatūra,
atsidariusiame dialoge pasirinkus kortelę Išdėstymai pridėti pvz. JAV
išdėstymą ir padaryti, kad jis būtų pakeltas virš Lietuva

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

1. Maximize the window.
2. Navigate to a list that scrolls, e.g. Get Software Provided by Ubuntu.
3. Move the pointer over to the right edge of the screen, and click.

What happens: Nothing.
What should happen: The list scrolls.

There seems to be a pixel of dead space between the edge of the
scrollbar and the edge of the window.

Problem occurs with: Ubuntu Software Center 3.0.5, Ubuntu 10.10
Does not occur with: Epiphany, Evolution, Firefox

It may make sense to fix bug 433917 at the same time as this bug.

** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu)

[Bug 567321] Re: Software center package classification show games in the graphic section

2010-12-03 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for reporting this. Bugs like these should be reported as separate
bugs for each package. For some of the packages these were reported and fixed.
See bug #532067 for trigger-rally (fix released), bug #532065 for supertuxkart
and bug #532056 for bzflag (fix released).

[Bug 57411] Re: Installer should have option to install English system with e.g. European locale defaults

2010-12-03 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
For many languages, the expectation is that LL should simply be equivalent
to LL_TT where LL is the language code and TT is the only territory code
where the language has a significant user population.

So, do you think that en should be equal to en_UK instead of
en_US (USA has a significant part of population that prefers e.g.
Spanish over English)?

I'd prefer en to mean English without any country specific details
(compatible with all international standards where possible) instead of
English with random country specific details.

I'm aware that historically en has been equivalent to en_US but is
there any actual reason for this?

[Bug 577120] Re: Grub 2 long delay while loading Ubuntu kernel

2010-12-03 Thread schnubert
I am experiencing the same problems with Zotac ION F.
When I boot XBMC Live which uses GRUB2 from USB-Stick it takes roughly 1 min
after the GRUB Menu to get to the XBMC logo, where the real boot is happening.
With set debug=all in grub.cfg you can clearly see that nothing happens
within this 1 min blank screen.
I already unplugged my hard drive and optical drive but unfortunately with the
same result.

There is no issue when I use legacy GRUB instead.

The Zotac also uses AMI BIOS.

This delay is really annoying and decreases the WAF of my HTPC tremendously.
I would highly welcome any fix for it!

There is a refcount error in the current 2.6.37.rc* release when unregistering

[Bug 684693] [NEW] Aero peek like functionality for the launcher

2010-12-03 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Right now I am required to click launcher icons to see active windows.
It would be really nice if I could just hover them and get thumbnails
displayed which if hovered would bring a peek of the windows to the
front and if click brought the windows to the front.

[Bug 662288] Re: rt2800pci freeze on module unload [maverick i386]

2010-12-03 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Hi Tim,

#9 is only a workaround till this nasty freeze bug is fixed. It is not a
fix. Ralink 3090 pci devices are supposed to work with the rt2800pci
driver. (See http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/linville
/wireless-
next-2.6.git;a=blob;f=drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/Kconfig;h=f2be1d35a5c8c8b32649c9c7e38db64d83682c37;hb=46af584d2ea86518c4cdf521903cd93ba6de2ec0
- especially the bits under ---help---)

***What we need to fix this freeze bug is a trace.***
Maybe you can try to get a trace by triggering the bug on a text console.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash may be of some use.
However, from what we found so far I do not expect the system to react to any
SysRq commands (see earlier comments) after module unload. But maybe you get a
trace by just doing modprobe -r rt2800pci on a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1).
And again: it might be a good idea to do an altgr+sysRq+S to force the disk to
sync before you do something expected to freeze the computer, and always wait
till there is no more disk activity.

rt2860sta should not be in use. You can check with lspci -k.
It should say: Kernel driver in use: rt2800pci.
It will list rt2860sta as also capable of driving the device in the line
Kernel modules:.

Thanks
