[Bug 683443] Re: Accessing objects with "[" or "]" in name via webdav results in "Invalid response"

2010-12-03 Thread Roman Yepishev
@Sebastien, yes, thanks for switching the project.

So, it turns out that the path checks are not very robust:

The path comparison uses the urlencoded strings but the case of
hexadecimal letters is not preserved. E.g. for me it checks the
following paths:

- /Downloads/test%20file%5bin_brackets%5d/
- /Downloads/test%20file%5Bin_brackets%5D

So after some kind of normalization these paths are different - %5b vs
%5B and trailing slash is missing. Basically any character that will be
urlencoded with A-F in the resulting hex will cause the first mismatch.

[Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2010-12-03 Thread Sarim Khan
This freaking problem is totally shitting at me. :(

I installed latest driver from both repo and nVidia site. one by one, none of
them worked. :(
I got the sound out of my speaker, i got the display in a remote VNC, but the
Monitor is still in power saving mode. :(
Tried all the suggestions preferred in this thread, but alas, none worked. :(

I'm sorry, the upload couldn't be accepted, you have to bump the
version. (In the past there was an 1.1 upload which got removed from
-proposed):

[Bug 579276] Re: Lost network in KVM VM / virtio_net page allocation failure

2010-12-03 Thread Peter Lieven
This is weird. I remember when I last experiment with a vanilla 2.6.34
some time ago, it still crashed under heavy load. 2.6.34 should have all
the patches mentioned applied except for the yet unpublished napi fix
from SuSe.

I'm currently rebuilding my test setup (binary news spool server) and see if it
still crashed reliably - this usually happened
within a few hours.

I'm meanwhile a new server kernel for lucid from the ubuntu kernel git.
It seems that
 - Make delayed refill more reliable (is already applied)

I now manually applied:
 - If the add_buf operation fails, indicate failure to the caller (in vanilla
kernel since 2.6.34.2 / 2.6.35)
 - virtio_net: Add schedule check to napi_enable call

And will try if this kernel is running without crashing.

However, I was not able to apply "Add limit for socket backlog" (in vanilla
kernel since 2.6.34) and related patches
for all protocols. The ubuntu kernel code seems to differ too significantly. Is
there
a backport for lucid scheduled?

[Bug 681141] Re: kvm 1.84 hangs (host 32 bit meerkat, guest created by vmbuilder)

2010-12-03 Thread Bart Hanssens
Same issue, also on Intel machine with 32-bit Meerkat host and Meerkat
guest.

Installation with 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 iso worked just fine, but after
the VM reboot, the guest machine displays the Grub menu (and stays
there, does not seem to time-out as expected) while CPU of the host goes
to 100%.

Selecting the first item on the menu does not boot the VM: virt-manager
just displays a black screen (I've tried to boot the VM with options
like vga=771, nosplash etc, removed "quiet", different driver) but
nothing seems to work.

[Bug 645512] Re: Gwibber doesn't show messages from twitter

2010-12-03 Thread wribeiro
Same problem here.
Facebook account is updating, but Twitter is not.

What I did until now since the problem began:
- Recreated the account many times
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Gwibber a lot of times
- Added the source (http://ppa.launchpad.net/gwibber-daily/ppa/ubuntu maverick
main) and installed a non stable version, witch worked for some days, updating
twitter correctly.
- Removed the source for unstable packages and reinstalled back the regular
version (2.32.2)
- Recreated twitter account a lot of times again

[Bug 43574] Re: Needs Ubuntu-style init script

2010-12-03 Thread Scott Moser
I've linked a new branch (lp:~smoser/ubuntu/natty/xinetd/bug43574) which
is identical to the one I unlinked except for 'natty' as the release in
debian/changelog.

Please sponsor and upload.

[Bug 43574] Re: Needs Ubuntu-style init script

2010-12-03 Thread Scott Moser
Dan,
In my tests here, I added 'respawn', and made the pre-stop script look like:

pre-stop script
  xinetd_pid=$(status | awk '/stop\/pre-stop/ { print $NF }')
  [ -n "${xinetd_pid}" ] || exit 0
  kill -QUIT "${xinetd_pid}"
  wait ${xinetd_pid}
stop # Prevent respawn bug in upstart (LP: #605007)
end script

With 'respawn' commented out, the script works like:
$ sudo status xinetd
xinetd start/running, process 490
$ sudo stop xinetd
xinetd stop/waiting
$ sudo start xinetd
xinetd start/running, process 1364

With respawn added back in, it looks like:
$ sudo status xinetd
xinetd stop/waiting
$ sudo start xinetd
xinetd start/running, process 3094
$ sudo stop xinetd
xinetd start/running, process 3275
$ sudo stop xinetd
xinetd start/running, process 3394

So I don't think the workaround works.
Initial debugging shows that nothing in that pre-stop script after 'wait' will
run. I'm guessing that upstart just kills the pre-stop job after it sees that
the process is gone.

So, I think the right thing to do here is to move to the upstart job
that I have, and, if you see fit, open a new bug saying "respawn does
not work with xinetd upstart job".

[Bug 684790] [NEW] grub2 does not load on Zotac H55ITX in Natty

2010-12-03 Thread Dan Weber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-pc

Tested with both fresh installs of the daily live iso (20101202), and upgrades
from maverick. First noticed with an upgrade from maverick.

Intel H55 chipset, with Core i5, and grub just does not load at start
up, bios continuously reboots. My only resolution was to install grub
legacy which did work just fine.

Grub2 however did work properly on that machine in maverick, so
somewhere between the two versions difference there appears to be a
problem. I even tested with Super GRUB2 disk and Rescatux and the
problem remains.

[Bug 642421] Re: Maverick could not load /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-generic/modules.dep

2010-12-03 Thread Danny
This happens when you tick "Install updates" during installation of the
system. The installer first places the bootloader for current kernel at
BIOS; but if the "Install updates" was ticked, the system installs the
newer version of kernel and, apparently, does not the old one.

For example, the module on my Live CD was "generic-module-2.6.35".
During installation I ticked for automatic updates, which resulted in
the installer downloading a newer version. The bootloader, however was
not updated. Hence its showing the "No such file or directory" message.

The error message is not fatal, but inconvenient as it cripples the
aesthetics. To fix this I had to go an extra mile and reinstall the
system, but this time with automatic updating switched off.

[Bug 661258] Re: Software center doesn't show whether an app is a CLI or a GUI app

2010-12-03 Thread Robert Roth
Sorry for assigning it then to the papercuts, but as a comment @mpt : as you
said, "it would need non-trivial design work before it became fixable", but
afterwards, it would be easy to fix I guess (desktop files do contain a
Terminal entry). So i guess that it still meets the papercut requirements,
because:
- it is a problem occurring within an existing piece of software, software
center
- it's presence makes a computer less pleasant to use (if you want to use an
app, you install it from SC and you can not start it, it makes a computer less
pleasant to use)
- it is easy to fix, see above
- the average user encounters in in a default application in Ubuntu
So maybe the definition of a papercut should be a bit more precise, e.g. the
"easy to fix" bullet could be "does not require more than one man-day of
work(coding, design, etc)".

[Bug 684804] [NEW] cloud-init should fetch image-data as well as user-data

2010-12-03 Thread Alex Bligh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cloud-init

cloud-init should fetch data specific to the image (and the platform)
prior to fetching user-data, and treat it the same way.

It should be an objective of ubuntu cloud images that they will run on
multiple cloud platforms without customization. As cloud platforms
differ, if the image is not customized, it is necessary for the image to
perform certain platform-specific operations on first boot. These tend
to be image specific too. An example would be to map PV driver disks.

Currently cloud-init sucks down and run a user-data script if supplied. It gets
this by default by reading
  http://169.254.169.254/user-data
Cloud platform providers cannot provide data there because there is no agreed
format for user-data (i.e. not every user uses the MIME format ubuntu's
cloud-init uses), meaning that (a) we would corrupt the user-data blob, and (b)
even prepending another MIME part, we'd run into problems with bad MIME etc.

It is suggested that instead cloud-init FIRST gets a user-data script from
   http://169.254.169.254/image-data
or similar. This would be platform specific data (as opposed to instance
specific data) that would be run first. This could do platform specific stuff
(for instance, change UUID, use custom first password code, disable bits of
udev, and so forth).

Added to the end of the URL would be GET parameters describing the
operating system type, release, etc. that could be used to help the
platform provider interpret what they should send down (although this
could form part of the metadata of the image itself, in a situation
where a server is e.g. installed manually on a blank disk it won't be
there).

This should be a pretty trivial addition to cloud-init.

[Bug 684800] [NEW] gdm bar is on the bottom, not on the top

2010-12-03 Thread amano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

With the default Unity desktop for Ubuntu 11.4 there will only be one
system bar which is placed on the top of the screen. The bar on the
bottom will vanish (and remain available just for the users of the
Classic Gnome interface).

The GDM bar (with the list of the different sessions and the shutdown
button) should therefore be moved to the top of the screen to offer a
coherent boot experience.

And it should be turned into a black bar to match the Unity one. Again
for the sake of coherence between the standard desktop look and the
standard GDM look.

Since fixing the bug shouldn't require too much computer science, I plan
to nominate it for the papercut project.

[Bug 684806] [NEW] [php-openid] Compatibility problems with PHP 5.3 (mod_php)

2010-12-03 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Imported from Debian bug 571803:

Package: php-openid
Version: 2.1.3-1
Severity: serious

As discussed in
http://lists.openidenabled.com/pipermail/dev/2010-January/001524.html
has serious issues with PHP 5.3. The main problem is the usage of dl()
by BigMath. BigMath is included by default when including php-openid.
mod_php doesn't support dl() anymore. Moreover, the call to dl uses the
@ operator, which has the fun effect that Apache gives a 200 OK return
code. This will probably confuse many people that don't know PHP
debugging tools.

There are some patches available. The project is looking close to dead.
I think it would be unfortunate if php-openid was removed, but something
needs to be done.
