[Bug 785474] Re: system test program references Open Office in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-20 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi Stephen,

Thanks for testing the procedure I suggested.

There's no need to reinstall, I just re-tested this on a new Natty
installation and was still unable to reproduce the problem.

Since you mention things are now working for you, I'm thinking it might
have been a transient problem, something particular to your specific
configuration. As the problem is not reproducible, for now I will mark
this bug as invalid.

However, if you come across the problem again, and manage to reproduce
it (i.e. make it happen) in a reliable way, please reopen the bug (click
on the pencil icon next to status on the top of this page and set to
New), and don't forget to include the steps to reproduce the problem.

Thanks again for your testing and help!

[Bug 634387] Re: creates motd.tail on postinst, which could mean duplicate entries in /etc/motd

2011-05-20 Thread nutznboltz
Looks like the code in sysvinit-2.87dsf/debian/initscripts.postinst that
tries to preserve an existing motd by turning it into a motd.tail only
makes sense if /etc/motd isn't already symlink to a generated file.

#
# Set up motd stuff, putting variable file in /var/run/
#
if [ ! -f /etc/motd.tail ]
then
if [ -f /etc/motd ]
then
sed 1d /etc/motd /etc/motd.tail
[ -s /etc/motd.tail ] || rm -f /etc/motd.tail
fi
fi

should be

#
# Set up motd stuff, putting variable file in /var/run/
#
if [ ! -f /etc/motd.tail ]
then
if [ -f /etc/motd -a ! -L /etc/motd ]
then
sed 1d /etc/motd /etc/motd.tail
[ -s /etc/motd.tail ] || rm -f /etc/motd.tail
fi
fi

The additional -a ! -L /etc/motd part would make the /etc/motd to
/etc/motd.tail only happen if /etc/motd was not a symlink.

[Bug 784758] Re: Wrong documentation for 'od'

2011-05-20 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.
Unfortunately you did not specify what version of Ubuntu (and of
coreutils) you are using, which makes it a bit more difficult to
pinpoint your issue.

Nevertheless, I went ahead and checked Lucid (since, in your
description, you refer to Lucid):

ubuntu@cempedak:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Release:10.04
Codename: lucid
ubuntu@cempedak:~$ od --version
od (GNU coreutils) 7.4
Copyright (C) 2009 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html.
This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it.
There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.

Written by Jim Meyering.
ubuntu@cempedak:~$ od --help | grep strings
-S, --strings[=BYTES] output strings of at least BYTES graphic chars
ubuntu@cempedak:~$

From 'man od' I see:

   -S, --strings[=BYTES]
output strings of at least BYTES graphic chars

So, at least on Lucid, this is not an issue. So, without more details
from you, I do not see this issue.

Also, the full documentation for any coreutils utility is provided as an
'info' page; '--help' and 'man' are summarised (in fact, the 'man'
entries are generated _from_ the ' --help').

Finally, I fail to see why this would be a trick -- even more a nasty
one -- played by upstream coreutils on any one. Bugs happen.

[Bug 785958] [NEW] cddbcmd cddb query Command code 500: Illegal input

2011-05-20 Thread Andrew Crosson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cddb

Produces and error if run from a non login shell if $HOME/.bashrc is
present. (terminal shell)

 cddbcmd cddb query `cd-discid /dev/sr0`
Command code 500: Illegal input.

However if I move $HOME/.bashrc or rename it and run command it works as
correctly.

#if I move $HOME/.bashrc
mv .bashrc .bashrc-bak

# open a new non login terminal
cddbcmd cddb query `cd-discid /dev/sr0`
misc 8d0dd00b Cradle of Filth / Midian
rock 8d0dd00b Cradle Of Filth / Midian

I am not sure if the problem is with cd-discid or with cddb package. I
have provided the versions of each package as well as the version of
Ubuntu I am running this on. I can also run the command from a direct
login shell on the VT console with out any problems.

I have been able to reproduce then on several accounts. I have created a
few test accounts to see what happens and as soon as a .bashrc is added
to home directory the command fails .

Here is some information that might help track down the problem.

[Bug 722690] Re: error: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so: undefined symbol: NPP_Initialize

2011-05-20 Thread Robert Lange
I adapted Rafał's patch from Gentoo to Ubuntu. Note, it does a full
copy of the old npunix.c to a new npunix.cpp with the changes included:
this was the only way I could make the patch so that dpkg-buildpackage
would apply it without failing.

To apply, put it into vlc-1.1.9/debian/patches/ and add a line
containing the patch name to vlc-1.1.9/debian/patches/series. Then you
should be able to use dpkg-buildpackage like usual.

The man is correct.

But on my installation I got:

$ od --help | grep strings
-s, --strings[=BYTES] affiche les chaînes d'au moins BYTES caractères

And it is INDEED a lowercase 's' letter.

So if you got eitherwise... could it be a translation bug?
Maybe it is only the French version of the help that is wrong, because
afterall, as you can see, the rest of the sentence after -s, --strings[=BYTES]
has been translated to French.

P.S.: of course I was joking about the bug and bad trick for Busybox. I do
agree with you bug happens, and in the Free/Open Source people don't do this
sort of trick on purpose.
I can also ensure you that the Busybox I tested (running on a Synology 1010) do
only accept -s (lowercase) for strings, and complains with -S
So I can only assume that this bug is not only on my PC!.. But after all, it
might be already fixed.

[Bug 785975] [NEW] Fix Realtek RTL8192ce LED in Ubuntu (Patch attached)

2011-05-20 Thread Carl Richell
Public bug reported:

Realtek RTL8192ce driver in natty's kernel does not correctly initialize
the wireless LED (i.e. the LED doesn't work). The attached patch fixes
the LED.

The original patch by Larry Finger was written for 2.6.39 and does not
compile against natty's kernel: http://marc.info/?l=linux-
wirelessm=130247823800466w=2

A minor change to the patch fixes the compile error and enables the
wireless LED. The change is discussed here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-
wirelessm=130324790201204w=2

Please consider using the patch. This wireless card can not be used in
production systems without the LED working.

2011-05-20 Thread Robert Hooker
I've uploaded a fglrx 8.850 (11.5) release patched to work with 2.6.39
kernels to oneiric and natty that can be used until it is fixed in the
archive to:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

It is version 2:8.850-0ubuntu1~xup2 (or higher) and will take a bit to
build and be published. Please let me know if it works, I only compile
tested it.

When I click on View--Character Sets, most of the submenus fail to

+ Transparent hugepages can only be created if rmap is fully
+ functional. So we must prevent hugepages to be created while
+ is_vma_temporary_stack() is true.
+
+ This also optmizes away some harmless but unnecessary setting of
+ khugepaged_scan.address and it switches some BUG_ON to VM_BUG_ON.

[Bug 785981] [NEW] [needs-packaging] python-x2go

2011-05-20 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

As part of the WebLive migration to x2go and its integration in Ubuntu,
python-x2go has been chosen as the ideal way of integrating x2go into
the Ubuntu Software Center.

They already have a descent package available in their PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/ppa/+packages

And I spent a good part of the last two days talking with upstream and with the
future Debian packager to get something that we are all happy with.
Oneiric now has updated nxproxy and nxcomp that are both requirements for a
working python-x2go.

I'll be working on getting python-x2go in the archive over the next few
days.

Code is under the GPLv3 and current PPA packager also happens to be the
upstream.

Code comes from: http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/python-x2go/
And current packaging is in the upstream git tree:
https://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=python-x2go.git;a=summary

The upstream tarball contains a debian/ directory already but packaging
is source format 3, so that will just get automatically ignored when
needed.

[Bug 782764] Re: mouse pointer accuracy problem in unity

2011-05-20 Thread TDB
+1
It only affects the Y mouse coordinate. I noticed that when it happens I can
only click the lower part of the button. In Chrome I have click slightly above
the hyperlinks. The problem is always gone after moving the window hosting the
button(s)/links on the screen. I suspect that the height of the menu bar (that
is now moved from the window onto the panel in Unity) is still sometimes
included in the Y calculations causing the problem.

When minimizing or closing the application to the system tray the
