[Bug 745942] Re: Icons not displayed for paid apps with a . in their package name

2011-06-06 Thread Brian Thomason
Hi Robert,

This is fixed in Natty, but I still need to SRU it for Maverick. (I
appreciate the indirect reminder!) Could you mark it as such. (I don't
have the powers)

Thanks!

Short followup to my previous comment #54. The workaround is
functioning well for me now. I think I had a typo in my first round of
testing.

[Bug 793380] Re: Synchronization failed via Ubuntu One / Tomboy Web with exception: "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute"

2011-06-06 Thread Hendy Irawan
I found how to delete all notes from the server:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/FAQ/HowCanIDeleteAllMyTomboyNotesFromTheServer

I also tried to re-authenticate Tomboy with the steps here:

Sure enough, Ubuntu One notes are wiped out, and tomboy is now uploading
all (backed up, local) notes to Ubuntu One server.

However the process failed with another exception:

[Bug 793593] [NEW] Clicking the first item on launcher starts it moving sometimes

2011-06-06 Thread Steven Weston
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Occasionally when I click (sometimes accidentally) on the first item in the
launcher, which I have as gnome-terminal (it may occur with other items in the
launcher, but I haven't experienced it), it tries to move the icon. This would
probably be okay if I were clicking and dragging it to try to move it, but I'm
not, I'm just clicking on it (there may be some movement of the mouse that's
causing it, but it's not deliberate). It detaches the icon from the launcher
and leaves it hovering somewhere nearby. I can move my mouse around, but it
doesn't move the icon. It is as if the icon is stuck. Clicking somewhere on
the launcher again seems to fix it but clicking on the hovering icon does
nothing.
It is not very reproducible because I cannot determine under which situations
it occurs. I have not managed to deliberately cause it. I just now tried
clicking randomly on the icon with various small mouse gestures (and also no
movement) and it didn't happen. However, I did manage (twice) to do something
similar. I managed to get all the icons to move down as if I were dragging all
the icons down. They got stuck, even though I had let go of the mouse button
and was moving the pointer around the screen freely. Again, clicking anywhere
on the launcher but them back in place. It is as if the launcher is not
correctly recognising ButtonRelease events.
I actually just now (in a second session of attempts) managed it but in my
frantic clicking reset it before I could get a screenshot. : ( I suppose a
screenshot wouldn't provide much information though.
This has happened with both my laptop's touchpad and my desktop's mouse (on
those machines respectively, both fresh installs) so it is probably not to do
with hardware.

[Bug 793591] [NEW] FEATURE REQUEST: snap to dock

2011-06-06 Thread zpletan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Windows snap to the bottom, left, and right of the workspace. They snap
to the panel (not the drag-up-to-maximize bit, but the window-stops-here
bit). Oftentimes, I want to move a window as far left as I can /without
hiding the dock/. Can we allow snapping to the dock just like we allow
snapping to the left-hand side of the workspace? It just needs to be
snapping like windows are snapped to the side, i.e. you can move it past
the snap point, but it will rest there.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm running stock Unity (3.8.12-0ubuntu1) that
came with Natty.

[Bug 738094] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in Launcher::UpdateIconXForm()

The stack appears to be well smashed. :/

Can you check your memory with memcheck and try to find steps to
reproduce?

[Bug 390508] Re: notifyOSD ignores the expire timeout parameter

2011-06-06 Thread Mike Hartman
I'm not asking for an option to change the daemon, I'm asking for an
option to change the behavior of the existing daemon. Changing the
daemon has more side effects than just fixing this one issue - it
changes the look of the bubbles. If the goal is to get everyone using
this new daemon, forcing us back to the old one isn't the way to do it.

That was the option I ended up taking when I first encountered this
issue, and it was suboptimal. I've gone through a couple machines since
then and the original use case doesn't apply anymore. I've learned to do
without the convenience of having personal scripts send me feedback via
notifications because Ubuntu made it such a pain.

What I'm asking for is pretty simple - it's replacing a constant in the
code with an "if" clause and a configuration check. It's not something
an application can force (since Ubuntu is trying to protect us fragile
users from inconsistency). It's a choice the user would have to go out
of their way to make. I'm suggesting burying it someplace obscure so new
users wouldn't be likely to find it, get confused by it or accidentally
enable it.

I just don't understand this trend in Ubuntu to completely remove
customization options. Pick the defaults you think are best, fine. Hide
the complexity from new users, fine. Make it next to impossible for more
knowledgeable users to get their system working the way they want it to?
Why? How does that benefit Ubuntu? It feels more Apple than Linux.

Anyway, I'm not going to continue this debate with you - it seems to be
pointless and it's getting increasingly difficult to avoid swearing.
There are something like 40 people complaining about this behavior in
this bug, and only a couple people defending the status quo. But clearly
we're all just unreasonable.

conflict with ours. They need to add the correct package relationships
to their package. Please report the bug to whoever provided you with

[Bug 792203] Re: ufraw-batch ignores temperature and green parameters provided on the command line

2011-06-06 Thread Savanni D'Gerinel
After further reading, I found a workaround from these comments on the
UFRaw website:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3061571&group_id=127649&atid=709086
- and -
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufraw/forums/forum/434060/topic/3775458

It would appear that the workaround to the problem is to open the
~/.ufrawrc file and remove the and lines as well as any
lines related to color temperature, green, and channel multipliers.

Additionally, there is an option in the GUI that tells the program to
never again save a .ufrawrc file so you can safely use it without the
GUI generating another .ufrawrc that has these options and breaks ufraw-
batch.

I think this also has issues with the screensaver/screen lock - the
keyboard seems to switch back to US layout for me after re-entering the
password on the screen lock.

[Bug 789580] Re: Switcher window borders are not properly unmapped with (unity|gtk)-window-decorator

2011-06-06 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
I can confirm that this bug is fixed in compiz
1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty1 from ppa:didrocks.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

- Install compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110531-0ubuntu1 from natty-proposed:
+ Install compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty1 from ppa:didrocks.
+
  Test case:
- 1) Show desktop
- 2) Open 1 window
- 3) Move it out of the way of the switcher preview window
- 4) Clicking on the outer edge of where the switcher preview window was
- should trigger the selection rect on the desktop as you expect
-
- Steps to reproduce with default setup:
- 1. Log in.
+ 1. Show desktop.
  2. Open a terminal from the menu, and move it away from the center of the
screen where the switcher will appear. Make sure that it still has focus.
  3. Hold down Alt-Tab to activate and show the switcher.
- 4. While the switcher is still visible move the mouse to a point right above
the very bottom of the gray switcher window. Within a pixel or two of the
bottom is sufficient.
+ 4. While the switcher is still visible move the mouse to a point above the
very bottom of the gray switcher window. Within a pixel or two of the bottom is
sufficient.
  5. Release Alt-Tab.
- 6. Click at the mouse position found in step 4. You will see that the desktop
does not take focus, and the terminal window still has focus. If you run
xwininfo you can click at that location and you will see information about a
window that you can't see, and that is definitely not the background nautilus
window.
+ 6. Click at the mouse position found in step 4. The desktop should take focus.

I have noticed that this happens with both the "Static Application
Switcher" and the "Application Switcher" compiz plugins, however it does
not happen with the other switcher plugins.

If a package is already broken, it needn't block a backport (the only

[Bug 577221] Re: [ooo-build] OOo Impress ignores Slide Advance timing in "Slide Show" Auto mode

2011-06-06 Thread olegio
It seems that LibreOffice does not have functionality that would allow you to
go to the previous slide in Full Screen mode
(i.e. in Libre, press any key == next slide). The cycling problem is not
there anymore, because Down and Up keys produce the same results (next slide).

The infinite cycling problem is still there if using the OpenOffice.

[Bug 793605] [NEW] Please sync offlineimap 6.3.3-3 (universe) from debian unstable

2011-06-06 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,
Please do a sync from debian of offlineimap. We can completely drop
the Ubuntu delta.

The latest entry in the Ubuntu changelog is :
> offlineimap (6.2.0.2ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low
>
> * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #605011). Remaining changes:
>- Use ssl.wrap_socket() instead of deprecated socket.ssl(); see changelog
> entry for 6.2.0+nmu2ubuntu1 for rationale.
>- Use python >= 2.6

I believe we can drop the 2.6 python requirement for 2 reasons:
a.) there is nothing less than 2.6 in the archive for oneiric.
b.) It was added to avoid a deprecated warning (bug 429655), that is
handled in offlineimap code now (so even python 2.4 users should not
 see this error)

We can drop the ssl.wrap_socket modification as it is also handled in
upstream now, with a 'try..except NameError' (see lines 187 at [1]).

[Bug 793278] Re: Daily build 05 May Live boots to red screen & cursor

2011-06-06 Thread jerrylamos
Ubuntu-bug requires a fully running system including X and desktop and
internet browser.

There's no way to do ubuntu-bug from Ctrl-Alt-F1 and get to the browser
if the desktop is borked.

Yes, from command line Ctrl-Alt-F1 I can run a report, but then when I
log on from a desktop that will work, the Ubuntu bug shooter says they
can't use the report.

So what I did, like just now, booted the 06 June daily build, gets a
blue screen which then turns to a red screen.

Absolutely no way to file a ubuntu-bug report from there since "red
screen" does not support a browser.

So I did Ctrl-Alt-Del, did a logout, did a login as user looked at the
desktop which said Ubuntu. That's the problem. If I log in I get red
screen since there's no Ubuntu support in the Live code.

I then selected Ubuntu 2D which works since Live has the code for that
and enables me to write this comment. Then I did ubuntu-bug which
works, and that is likely what you see on the default desktop. Is there
any way for you to see what the initial default was as booted? I looked
at /var/log/syslog but I don't know enough about boot scripts to see
anything. Is there another log which would show what the default
desktop is?

Let me try to take a couple digital pictures of the screen.

Jerry

[Bug 793609] [NEW] debconf has no icon in unity

2011-06-06 Thread Clemens Schöll
Public bug reported:

Pretty much as the title says, Debconf doesn't show a logo in the unity-bar.
(Which is kind of annoying: I know it had popped up, but i couldn't find it.)
It just show's [?] as it does whenever it doesn't find the logo.

[Bug 793606] [NEW] Random, complete lock up

2011-06-06 Thread Rob King
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

Natty with the latest updates on a Dell Vostro v130 will completely lock
up when under reasonable network load. I had originally thought that the
lock up was due to the ath9k driver, but disabling wireless via the
hardware switch still results in lockups when the system is put under
heavy load via the wired ethernet interface.

I can't be sure if it's CPU or network related. I had first thought it
was disk I/O related, but I can trigger the issue just via network
traffic (streaming a video, for example). Another possibility is due to
changing CPU frequencies in response to load, or heat issues due to
increased CPU usage (though monitoring CPU temperature via lm-sensors
doesn't reveal anything particularly bad when the lockup occurs).
Immediately before the lock up, the system gets very stuttery - mouse
movements become erratic and while the mouse is still moveable for a
short period of time, the keyboard ceases to respond.

The system completely locks up; it does not respond to network traffic
and it is not possible to switch to a different virtual console.
Triggering the bug while having the Linux console up (vt1) shows that
the system just locks, there's no panic/oops. There's no way to get the
logs off the system after it locks up.

This is very much reproducible. Boot the system, log in, and start a
network-intensive process, and within five to forty minutes, the system
will completely lock up.

The good news is that when I upgraded to the 2.6.39 kernel from Oneiric
Ocelot (went and downloaded the package manually), the problem appears
to have completely resolved the issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 793590

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport using 'ubuntu-bug'
and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 571476] Re: Trim support missing from Linux kernel

2011-06-06 Thread Josh Brown
@letstrynl: Yes, the current plan is that Ubuntu 10.04 will never
receive TRIM support. Although unstated, I am under the impression that
the developers abstain from including new features like TRIM in LTS
releases because of possible instability. I trust that the developers
are aware of the problem this causes some users and am sure they know
what they are doing.

2011-06-06 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please attach the ~/.xsession-errors log file after it
fails to start both workspaces.

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 242604] Re: Cannot extract vobsub file from ifo files in local folder, only from DVD

2011-06-06 Thread Loïc Paulevé
It seems related to a locale issue : if I run
$ LANG=C dvdrip
then, when extracting the dvd title, the ifo is correctly copied and vobsub
works.
Hope that helps.

[Bug 745942] Re: Icons not displayed for paid apps with a . in their package name

2011-06-06 Thread Robert Roth
I don't have the right to do that neither, so we'll have to wait until a
software-center maintainer opens a distro task for maverick. I'll leave this as
Incomplete for now, because marking it as fix released would hide it by default
from searches, and I guess that wouldn't be the best thing to do until the
maverick distro-task is not opened.
