[Bug 950990] [NEW] ubuntu-bug asks for sudo password midway through collection

2012-03-09 Thread Ryan Finnie
Public bug reported:

When running ubuntu-bug manually through an SSH session, without
recently using sudo, this happened:

ryan@nibbler:~$ ubuntu-bug linux-image-server

*** Collecting problem information

The collected information can be sent to the developers to improve the
application. This might take a few minutes.
...[sudo] password for ryan: .

At that point, I cancelled, since I was not sure if it was sudo itself or
another process that has control of readline. Running a trivial sudo command
("sudo ls") then re-running ubuntu-bug prevented this from happening again.

[Bug 941695] Re: Broadcom BCM4313 random AP disconnects and network hang

2012-03-09 Thread Terry
Yup, it didn't fix the problem I was having but it fixed what the patch
described and the A-MPDU messages were more frequent, I remember that
much.

Normally the messages will appear one after the other at different
intervals but I'm not flooded with them. What I will do is collect logs
prior to the issues up to the point it recovers itself as it were. That
might give you a better idea of what is happening.

[Bug 883800] Re: apps available to download section should blacklist certain items

2012-03-09 Thread tenfishsticks
My company develops open-source software for medical imaging and offers
training on said software. When we have these training meetings, it's
my job to create USB boot drives with some Linux flavor. This app came
up on the first test of Ubuntu and our company CANNOT afford to present
our preferred OS environment in a way that could offend our customers.

I also volunteer at a coding camp for kids and we're in the process of
moving to some USB set-up for all the kids. This really makes me
hesitant to use Ubuntu if an application, however benign in usage,
promotes pornography by appearance or suggestion, and can "randomly" be
suggested. I don't want our kids getting into trouble or angry parents
calling me over this.

This bug needs to be moved to a level of importance close to critical
because it will turn a LOT of users off of Ubuntu, which is a great OS
in all other respects. Until this gets resolved, I'm going to have to
use some other distro, which equates to 50+ users affected.

[Bug 950967] Re: glib2.0:armel uninstallable on systems that don't support executing armel code

2012-03-09 Thread Steve Langasek
the change in the Debian upload is apparently wrong:

glib2.0 (2.30.2-7) UNRELEASED; urgency=low

  * libglib2.0-0.postinst.in:
+ Encapsulate gio-querymodules calls in || true statements.
  Closes: #659588.
+ Only run gio-querymodules on the non-multiarch path for the host»
  architecture.
  * rules: add substitution for #ARCH# for the above change.

There's no reason to assume we should exclude the non-multiarch path
when running for foreign architectures. The files in
/usr/lib/gio/modules could belong to packages of *any* architecture.

[Bug 867833] Re: Network Manager overwriting /etc/resolv.conf with no information when static IP configured for ipv4

2012-03-09 Thread Kalle Tuulos
I just made a clean 11.10 install using "alternate i386 install" CD. I
installed system with static IP address and performed full update.
Everything was fine. After rebooting the system first time,
/etc/resolv.conf was wiped clean.

This means that the error correction has not been distributed yet on
main stream (or whatever is the correct terminology).

[Bug 945932] Re: Atheros USB bluetooth adapter not detected in 12.04 beta 1

2012-03-09 Thread Charles Lindsay
I did notice that if I boot to xubuntu, then restart (without powering
off) into ubuntu, ubuntu then detects it and it works fine. I guess
that's consistent with the firmware being loaded by xubuntu but not
ubuntu?

which is straightforward to accomplish using qemu-user-static, isn't it?

[Bug 950851] Re: long boot time after installing additional Desktops

2012-03-09 Thread Sven Romeike
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise reproducible ubuntu

** Description changed:

After installing kubuntu-desktop on a fresh installed 32Bit Ubuntu
(Precise Beta) my system takes longer than usual to start. It actually
takes longer than Windows on my other machine which is unusual since
  10.04.

I have a Samsung R560 with installed Nvidia Drivers from the Precise
Repositorys that were recommended by the Ubuntu System.
I'd be glad if anyone can tell me what I need to do to provide more trace
information about the boottime issue.

The System seems to run normal but the long boot sequence is quite annoying.
After installing KDE I set the Plymouth Bootscreen back to normal with the
"update-alternatives" to have the standard Ubuntu Boot Screen and I'm still
using Lightdm as Display Manager.

The only manual modification i did was to change the boottime resolution
  according to this german howto:

  http://linuxundich.de/de/ubuntu/plymouth-boot-nvidia-virtualbox/

- Which worked very good. I now have my native resolution of 1280x800 with
- running nvidia driver. I just mention this if this may have caused the
- longer boot time.
+ Which worked very good. I now have my native resolution of 1280x800 with

[Bug 587288] Re: ld cannot find -lcuda, when compiling cuda programs

2012-03-09 Thread IRIE Shinsuke
This problem can be solved by putting .profile file the following line:

export LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib/nvidia-current"

I think creating /etc/profile.d/nvidia-current.sh file containing the
above is good idea. This file provides the system-wide setting.

[Bug 950851] Re: long boot time after installing additional Desktops

2012-03-09 Thread Sven Romeike
apport information

** Description changed:

After installing kubuntu-desktop on a fresh installed 32Bit Ubuntu
(Precise Beta) my system takes longer than usual to start. It actually
takes longer than Windows on my other machine which is unusual since
  10.04.

I have a Samsung R560 with installed Nvidia Drivers from the Precise
Repositorys that were recommended by the Ubuntu System.
I'd be glad if anyone can tell me what I need to do to provide more trace
information about the boottime issue.

The System seems to run normal but the long boot sequence is quite annoying.
After installing KDE I set the Plymouth Bootscreen back to normal with the
"update-alternatives" to have the standard Ubuntu Boot Screen and I'm still
using Lightdm as Display Manager.

The only manual modification i did was to change the boottime resolution
  according to this german howto:

  http://linuxundich.de/de/ubuntu/plymouth-boot-nvidia-virtualbox/

Which worked very good. I now have my native resolution of 1280x800 with
running nvidia driver. I just mention this if this may have caused the longer
boot time.

[Bug 947712] Re: Can't type into Dash's search bar when the Support Language set to Thai

2012-03-09 Thread PopMishima
Hi, I'm running 12.04b at the moment. This issue is indeed fixed. Thank
you so much for your contribution to this wonderful Operating System.
Unfortunately, I'm facing another problem and that is the ALT-SHIFT
shortcut for switching between languages (EN-->TH and TH-->EN) is
conflicting with the new Universal Search??? feature in 12.04 - so I'm
getting the search overlay eveytime I want to switch between languages.
So yeah~ well, once again. Thank you sooo much~!

[Bug 876195] Re: scilab graphics doesn't work in Oneiric

2012-03-09 Thread oliford
Since it was originally posted here @#13, the other page now has a
better workaround that uses libgl1-mesa-swx11 only for scilab:
http://www.equalis.com/forums/permalink.asp?id=337146

The most recent post on there
(http://www.equalis.com/forums/permalink.asp?id=371690) suggests that
the problem has been fixed properly in Mesa 8.0.1 and hence in Ubuntu
percise (12.04).

Can the fix in mesa, or the whole new mesa be backported?

[Bug 715267] Re: [vostro-v13, Studio XPS 1340] touchpad/psmouse is causing troubles after resume

2012-03-09 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi all,

I tested this on the XPS 1340, and the 3.0.0-16 kernel from Oneiric
updates also makes the touchpad reset properly when resuming.

Thanks!
