[Bug 932687] Re: nfs4_reclaim_locks: unhandled error crashes applications and creates high load

2012-05-16 Thread coli
We don't use networkmanager but configure the interfaces through
/etc/network/interfaces all the time.. But we still have this problem.

I figured out, that autofs-mounts have the correct clientaddr set while
fstab mounts don't. Our fstab-mounts also have clientaddr=0.0.0.0. But
when I manually unmount them and remount them, they get the right
clientaddr but still the problem exists, at least we still have the
error-messages in dmesg shown.

I also found this redhat bugreport
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732748 which claims that the
problem is fixed with these patches:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.nfs/48705 .

I used kernel 3.3.6-030306-generic now but we still have the
nfs4_reclaim_open_state: Lock reclaim failed! messages in dmesg but no
hang so far..

Does your workaround still work for you? Do you had any hangs or the
error-messages in dmesg anymore?

Does anyone know what the clientaddr-field is used for?

[Bug 998087] Re: printer ERROR: invalidaccess OFFENDING COMMAND: filter

2012-05-16 Thread cliddell
Steve,

Till is looking into the possibility of providing an option to use the
poppler tool as a workaround, I'll leave it to him to update on that
when/if he has news.

Obviously, in the long term, we'd like to resolve these issues that
various printers have with the Postscript output from Ghostscript - note
that Adobe CPSI consumes the GS output just fine, as does Adobe's
Distiller, and several other Postscript interpreters.

If I could ask you to attach a Postscript file here on which your
printer gives this error - hopefully, Till can post the instructions on
how to do that.

After that, if you are willing, I'd like to give you some (possibly
many!) Postscript files to send to your printer, to see if we can
establish for sure what the problem is - if we can.

Chris

[Bug 908335] Re: Kernel Hard Freezing Very Often

2012-05-16 Thread Danny Goodall
Additional information. I've also tried 12.04 on 3.2.0-24 with the
Nouveau drivers in case it was related to Nvidia (which I must admit I
thought it was), but the same issue occurred.

I've updated my bug report at kernel.org accordingly

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43133

@ joseph salisbury - can you advise what is happening with the bug I
reported here and the one I reported at kernel.org?

Sorry for my naivety but I assumed that I would see status changes or at
least have some form of communication or feedback.

I am stuck on 10.10 without updates as no upstream release works for me.

[Bug 908335] Re: Kernel Hard Freezing Very Often

2012-05-16 Thread Danny Goodall
@ Brendan Brigham - I'm not sure that this is the same issue because
reading through the logs there it seems that the problem relates to
heavy graphics use, and perhaps the Intel Ivy Bridge chipset.

Plus some users there suggest that they are able to open a shell and
interact with the machine.

When my system hangs. It requires a power-off - no response.

I guess they might be related though so thanks for cross-posting it.

talloc memory handling preventing the crash.

  Stable Fix:
+ Cherry picked patch from upstream VCS - see comments in Development fix.

  Test Case:
+ NOTE - hard to reproduce as requires deployment with large number of
users/groups.
Configure winbind to communicate with a Domain Controller with more that 1000
users
  getent group groupWithLessThan1000Members - OK
getent group groupWithMoreThan1000Members - HANGS (coredumps recorded in
syslog).

  Regression Potential:
Minimal - patch has been committed upstream and should be released in Samba
3.6.6.

  Original Bug Report:

  Samba 3.6.3 precise

winbind works as expected with groups with 1000 members, core dumps
when encountering groups with 1000 members.

e.g. getent group groupWithLessThan1000Members returns expected results

getent group groupWithMoreThan1000Members hangs at CLI whilst winbind
coredumps in the background and eventually returns nothing, however this
  can be found in syslog

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-16 Thread freeman70
I am also experiencing random complete freezes on a fresh install of
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Ivy bridge 3570k 3.4 GHz
MSI Z77A-G45
16 GB DDR3-1600y
240 GB SanDisk Extreme SSD
2 TB Hitachi Hard Disk
Onboard HD4000 Graphics

Unity-3D, Unity-2D, Gnome-shell, and Gnome classic with effects all
randomly freeze the computer with no mouse movement possible. Forced
reboot always ends up with a notification of it having to run in low
graphics mode. I restart from terminal and then I get the standard login
screen. Interestingly enough, I can run Gnome classic without effects
and I haven't experience any random freezes as yet.

[Bug 993420] Re: Ubuntu Login Form is Left of Visablity on the Login Screen

2012-05-16 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Sebastien,

After login, the resolution is fine; it is only *during* the login
screen that the login *form* is NOT visible.

During installation, I did check the box that allows Ubuntu to use 3rd
party packages. This problem occurred on the very first login AND all
additional logins thereafter. I do vaguely recall changing the video
driver from one (recommended) driver to another one that was newer but
not recommended, but it was (however) listed, when going to System
Settings Additional Drivers.

As for nouveau, I do not recall ever trying that driver (by name).
Again, this issue persists on my cousin's computer, and I'm only able
to report back as frequently as I visit him. Last night, I submitted the
apport-collect from his computer.

Remember, I set his user account to login automatically (so he can
expirence Ubuntu without having do a *blind* login each time), but after
updating his machine last night with 120 updates (and then rebooting), I
was able to see that the problem still persisted by logging out; that
took me to the login screen where the login form still remains left of
being visible.

Each time I visit him, I'll revist this thread also, so that I may
provide any additional requested information.

nouveau? Will this automatically be installed by disabled the 3rd party
drivers?

[Bug 1000190] [NEW] Evolution's Search folder not showing correct messages

2012-05-16 Thread rubadubdub
Public bug reported:

I have 3 imap gmail account and I am trying to display all e-mail from
my 3 inboxes in 1 search folder. The searchbox I created had the
following settings (loosly translated from dutch so might not be teh
actual names of the settings:

include all
for specific maps: all impa/INBOX folders
I also tried all local and external folders - same result
I also tried all read messages and all unread messages - same result

With all of the above settings I get a search folder where 2/3 of the
mail is missing. It displays just 1 of the imap/INBOX'es. When deleting
an recreating the search folder same results, only a change it shows a
different inbox but never all of them.

PLeas fix or point me to a sollution.

[Bug 999764] Re: [SRU] no ufw profile or apport hook is included in the 12.04 packages

2012-05-16 Thread James Page
** Description changed:

+ Impact:
+ Bugs reported in Ubuntu have limited apport information compared to previous
releases.
+ UFW profile is missing - regression from previous release.
+
+ Development Fix:
+ Restore missing lines from install files in packaging.
+
+ Stable Fix:
+ Restore missing lines from install files in packaging.
+
+ Test Case:
+ sudo apt-get install samba
+ /etc/ufw/applications.d/samba and
/usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_samba.py are missing.
+
+ Regression Potential:
+ Minimal - these files are missing from the release version in 12.04 and don't
really impact outside of ufw or apport.
+
+ Original Bug Report:
+
The samba packages in 11.10 ship both a ufw profile and an apport hook:

-samba: /etc/ufw/applications.d/samba
-samba-common-bin: /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_samba.py
+    samba: /etc/ufw/applications.d/samba
+    samba-common-bin: /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_samba.py

Neither of these is included in the 12.04 packages - looks like they got
dropped from the .install files during merging.

[Bug 924364] Re: Muon Updater does not show package name, version information

2012-05-16 Thread Reuben Firmin
Please bump this out of wishlist. It is a bug, not a desired feature.
As configured, I can't tell what is going to be installed on my system
when I accept an update.

Utilities to configure the GNOME desktop - great, what is that? Try
googling for that and finding me the project page. Where can I see the
source code? Where can I see the new commits that are included in this
version?

or

Open source social networking client for GNOME
event logging framework
System sound indicator

I get that this feature is supposed to make the update notifier more
friendly for non technical users, but until packages have consistently
useful descriptions the display absolutely needs to include the package
name in a third column; without it the updater is missing critical
functionality. Until then I will rely on apt for updates.

is a 0ubuntu1 upstream version bump. Just be sure to use the same orig.

[Bug 995053] Re: Drag Drop to PCManFM window causes system crash

2012-05-16 Thread João Ricardo Lourenço
If you switch to a terminal and kill file-roller or if you manage to
alt-tab into a terminal (even tough it doesn't become the top window),
then you can also kill file-roller. In both cases, your mouse will get
back. At least that's what happens with me (I got here looking for more
info on this bug).

[Bug 942106] Re: software raid doesn't assemble before mount on boot

2012-05-16 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
I'm still trying to reproduce/test this bug.
By the looks of it, adding wait_for_udev call is sensible.
On the other hand, udev incremental assembly has been disabled in a debian
patch, which we inherited.
I am going to suggest dropping that patch allow incremental udev assembly in
mdadm package.

[Bug 1000199] [NEW] unity alt+f2 does not execute previous command

Public bug reported:

At times, alt+f2 will already have a command inside the text box
without me needing to enter one. But it does not allow to just hit enter
and run that command, I have to navigate into the history or type the

Howto reproduce:
1. Alt+F2 and run gedit (works as expected)
2. Hit Alt+F2 again. This time, gedit is already in the textbox, but hitting
enter will not run the command.

[Bug 1000198] [NEW] Libreoffice ignores libpaper1 setting (a4) and defaults, over and over again, to US Letter

2012-05-16 Thread Glen Mehn
Public bug reported:

My location is set to London, EN-GB, libpaper1 setting and
/etc/papersize set to A4, but Writer defaults to Letter.

What's really odd is that if I open, say, 2 documents to print (cv and
covering letter, say) and manually change one, then the 2nd document
doesn't need changing.

But then when I close those and open the next 2, they need changing
again.

[Bug 958385] Re: Encoding mismatch when mousetweaks is missing

2012-05-16 Thread marmuta
Done testing 0.97.1 in Oneiric. Perhaps it's better to not do an SRU
there.

There is one notable regression in unity, to a lesser extent in gnome-shell
(Metacity sessions are unaffected):
With window decoration enabled, the keyboard window is lost for good when it's
minimized by title bar button. GTK3 doesn't report iconifying there. On Precise
something similar can happen, though for different reasons and there is a known
workaround.
Fixing this in 0.97.1 would most likely mean a separate code path for Oneric,
I'd rather avoid that.

Window decoration is disabled by default, though and everything else
seems fine, including auto-show, screen-rotation and unlock screen
logic.

I guess Teamviewer is supposed to be like that, and you can close it

[Bug 1000202] [NEW] Unable to unmount NFSv3 or NFSv4 mounts when mounted using IPv6 address

2012-05-16 Thread Scott Duckworth
Public bug reported:

I am unable to unmount NFS (v3 or v4) mount points if they were mounted
using the server's IPv6 address instead of the server's hostname (which
resolves to an IPv6 address). umount says mountpoint was not found
in /proc/mounts even though the file system is clearly mounted.

I do not get the expected result when using IPv6 addresses (NFSv3
example):

root@gecko23:~# mount -t nfs [2620:103:a000:401::1:9]:/vol/public /mnt2
root@gecko23:~# mount | grep /mnt2
[2620:103:a000:401::1:9]:/vol/public on /mnt2 type nfs
(rw,vers=4,addr=2620:103:a000:401::1:9,clientaddr=2620:103:a000:401:7880:a21c:f25:d073)
root@gecko23:~# cat /proc/mounts | grep /mnt2
2620:103:a000:401::1:9:/vol/public/ /mnt2 nfs4
rw,relatime,vers=4,rsize=65536,wsize=65536,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp6,port=0,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,clientaddr=2620:103:a000:401:7880:a21c:f25:d073,minorversion=0,local_lock=none,addr=2620:103:a000:401::1:9
 0 0
root@gecko23:~# umount /mnt2
/mnt2 was not found in /proc/mounts
/mnt2 was not found in /proc/mounts

This problem also happens when using NFSv4.

When mounting using a hostname which resolves to an IPv6 address, I get
the expected result (NFSv4 example):

root@gecko23:~# mount -t nfs4 netapp2a-v6.cs.clemson.edu:/vol/public /mnt2
root@gecko23:~# mount | grep /mnt2
netapp2a-v6.cs.clemson.edu:/vol/public on /mnt2 type nfs4
(rw,addr=2620:103:a000:401::1:9,clientaddr=2620:103:a000:401:7880:a21c:f25:d073)
root@gecko23:~# cat /proc/mounts | grep /mnt2
netapp2a-v6.cs.clemson.edu:/vol/public/ /mnt2 nfs4
rw,relatime,vers=4,rsize=65536,wsize=65536,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp6,port=0,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,clientaddr=2620:103:a000:401:7880:a21c:f25:d073,minorversion=0,local_lock=none,addr=2620:103:a000:401::1:9
 0 0
root@gecko23:~# umount /mnt2

Using a hostname with NFSv3 works as expected too:

root@gecko23:~# mount -t nfs netapp2a-v6.cs.clemson.edu:/vol/public /mnt2
root@gecko23:~# umount /mnt2

Perhaps the colons (':') in the IPv6 addresses get confused with the
delimiter (a colon) between NFS server and share point?

2012-05-16 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for the debdiff. I've prepared a package using it, with a few minor
adjustments:
- You didn't specify the correct path for the patch in the changelog
- You didn't wrap lines in the changelog
- You applied the fix inline in addition to having it in the patch system.

I've uploaded the package to -proposed to await processing by the SRU
team.

[Bug 894170] Re: libdvdread core dumps with invalid next size

2012-05-16 Thread Marc Deslauriers
SRU Request:

Impact: Oneiric cannot read certain dvds, including The Express.

Development fix: This is fixed in Precise with the minimal patch
provided in this bug.

Stable fix: An identical minimal patch has been applied to the Oneiric
package

Test Case: Unfortunately, someone needs to try playing the The Express
DVD to test this updated package

Regression potential: Although unlikely, this patch may prevent other
DVDs from playing, in which case the patch can be backed out.

Actually *I'm* wrong about the bug reporting instructions being wrong.
They're technically correct, but they seem to imply that one should go
straight to the kernel bugzilla, instead of the kernel mailing lists.

So it might still be useful to emphasise the use of the mailing lists
for bug *reporting*.

[Bug 908335] Re: Kernel Hard Freezing Very Often

2012-05-16 Thread Luis Henriques
The ideal scenario to help debugging this would be to get the kernel log
during a system freeze through a serial console, but I guess your laptop
does not have a serial port.

The other thing that *could* help finding the cause of this issue would
be to compare the logs of a kernel that is known to freeze the system
with your laptop docked and un-docked. So, you could:

  - Un-dock your laptop, boot, and get the kernel logs
  - Dock your laptop, boot and get the kernel logs

The important thing here is to use the same kernel in both runs, and to
pick a kernel that is known to trigger the issue. Would you be able to
append these two kernel logs to this bug report?

You can get the kernel logs by simply booting and running dmesg
kernel.log in a terminal. (This will create a file named kernel.log,
that you should append to the bug report).

Why is it even in the repositories if the current release is around 2

[Bug 1000205] [NEW] Upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 server brakes configuration of nslcd

2012-05-16 Thread Wolfram Strauss
Public bug reported:

Doing a do-release-upgrade from 10.04 server to 12.04 server breaks the
configuration in /etc/nslcd.conf. Custom modifications are partially
commented out, at least the directive bindpw is commented out which
leaves nslcd non functioning after the release upgrade.

There was no question regarding overwriting the manually modified
configuration file nor was the original one saved. Using ldap for
authentication (e.g. in the pam stack and / or for nsswitch) this breaks
the login process.
