[Bug 1184262] Re: [logind] stuck in PrepareForSleep, causing network and other services to not resume

2013-10-23 Thread Alfredo Pacheco Jr
I am also having this issue after upgrading from Lubuntu 13.04 to 13.10.
However, I have my power settings to just turn off the screen when my
laptop is closed. Sleep and hibernate are disabled unless I manually
select them from the logout menu. But the logout menu is having its own
issues on another bug report.

The only solution for me is to run

sudo shutdown -P now
or
sudo reboot

I haven't tried:

sudo nmcli nm sleed false. Will attempt save my files, close my lid and
see if this is a temp fix for me.

[Bug 1228095] Re: Enable default options for non-seat0 seats (no need of systemd-multi-seat-x wrapper)

2013-10-23 Thread Richard Hansen
Thanks Laércio for uploading a thoroughly patched xorg-server to
ppa:lbssousa/multiseat! I haven't tried it, but I examined the changes
and they look good. I'll see if I can backport the patches to raring
tonight and upload the result to ppa:ubuntu-multiseat/ppa.

Has the MatchSeat patch been merged to master in the upstream xorg
repository?

[Bug 1233712] Re: Shut Down / Suspend / Restart no longer appear in HUD

2013-10-23 Thread alex
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1165420 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165420

Maybe the problem is due to some interference with Nautilus?

on 13.10 when you open HUD with all no active programs it shows commands to
Nautilus (like new window, bookmarks, connect to server...)
hey! in fact, it opens these same nautilus commands when chromium is working
too!

on 13.04 it would list something from the tray (like "turn on/off wifi"
or "Suspend" etc -- which all are very handy).

[Bug 1243797] [NEW] No compose message button

2013-10-23 Thread Dražen Lučanin
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 13.10 I just noticed that I don't see any compose button in
Friends. There isn't anything in the global menu, no "write message" or
some such button. I can only view the timeline and reply to posts. Am I
missing something? If I remember correctly, there used to be such a
button, where I would choose to which social networks I want to post
this message.

[Bug 1243758] Re: keyboard and mouse stop working after some time

2013-10-23 Thread Quinn Balazs
Alright, so here are the commands needed in order to collect necessary
log files.

Run the following commands one at a time in a terminal window. Just
pasting them from here into it should work fine.

lsusb -v > ~/lsusb-v
uname -a > ~/uname-a
cat /proc/version_signature > ~/version_signature
sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/lspci-vvnn (This one will ask for an admin password as it
uses sudo)

And attach the following output logs to the bug report. All these should
be found by navigating to the root filesystem, but these are the paths
for them.

~/lsusb-v, ~/uname-a, ~/version_signature and ~/lspci-vvnn

For the following logs, please wait until the issue occurs, and ssh into
the affected system in order to collect the following logs

LANG=C
dmesg > ~/dmesg
diff -ns ~/dmesg_boot ~/dmesg > ~/dmesg_diff
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log_tmp
diff -ns ~/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log_tmp > ~/Xorg.0.log_diff

This has to be done when the primary keyboard isn't working so that
dmesg and Xorg can collect information about what went wrong with it.
After finishing those commands, attach the following log files to the
report, again, here are the paths for them:

~/dmesg_boot, ~/dmesg_diff, ~/Xorg.0.log and ~/Xorg.0.log_diff.

[Bug 1239265] Re: Opening any settings page resets displays

2013-10-23 Thread Ursula Junque
Hi Seb, my video driver is intel (xserver-xorg-video-intel), and this
problem might be related to bug 1239186. I'm not sure though.

The weird thing is that the displays reset whenever I access any of the
ubuntu settings, so maybe it's a bug in my driver combined with some odd
behavior in gnome settings. Here are the contents of gnome-settings-
daemon.log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6290019/ .

Please, let me know if there's anything I could do to test it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1212977] Re: [Dell Optiplex 990] Saucy daily-live images are unbootable, stuck in BusyBox shell

2013-10-23 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Hi Daniel,

I was able to get my system to A18 of the BIOS. The X31 version was an
experimental version, but surprisingly it prevented this bug. I ran
some tests by installing and booting a Saucy LiveCD on the machine.

Here are some results:
BIOS set to Legacy mode and pressing F12 during boot to access Boot menu:

1. Booting LiveCD and selecting "USB Storage Device" under "LEGACY BOOT":
"Selected boot device failed."
"Press any key to reboot the system."

2. Booting LiveCD and selecting "UEFI: INT13(usb,0x81)" under "UEFI BOOT:"
I get the GRUB menu and can install or boot from LiveCD.

3. If I set BIOS to boot USB first, then I get this message:
"Attempted to Boot UEFI Volume from Legacy Mode."
"To Boot the UEFI Vollume Automatically, rather than via F12:
...
...

BIOS set to UEFI mode and pressing F12 during boot to access Boot menu:

So it appears this issue may be related to UEFI and the BIOS. Can you try the
same steps I performed above and see if you get similar results? I assume
booting without selecting F12 is how you reproduce this bug, but trying some of
the other options might provide some additional information.

Also, it looks like you originally installed Raring on here. Do you
recall if you saw any issues during that install? Do you recall if you
had UEFI or Legacy boot enabled during that installation?

[Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2013-10-23 Thread alex
In saucy 13.10 when no application is active HUD still does not list "Suspend,
Shut down, turn on/off wifi", which were so useful in 13.04.
Instead it shows commands to Nautilus (like "Connect to server", "New window",
"Bookmarks" etc).

In fact at the moment no matter which application I open (LibreOffice
Writer, gedit, Chromium and Firefox ...) HUD lists the same 5 commands
to Nautilus.

[Bug 1243806] [NEW] Folder names in Location area keeps the width (13.10)

2013-10-23 Thread Shunsuke Akagi
Public bug reported:

Folder names in Location area keeps the width even though when I go back to
upper folder.
First of all this new downgraded nautilus folder section holds its width and I
cannot even change the width at all.
Then when I go deep down lower folders or open folder with long name, it would
squeeze down the "Name" part and I cannot even see names anymore. Then when I
go up to upper folder or root, I cannot see the names anymore becaue location
column takes up all the space. Once I click one of the unseen folder, I may see
the names again.
This is one of too many problems of 13.10.

[Bug 1243297] Re: Security and Privacy crashes Compiz and Unity on open

2013-10-23 Thread Stephen M. Webb
A black screen is indicative of an X server crash rather than a
Compiz/Unity crash (which will leave windows open and functional on the
desktop, but without decorations).

It is possible there is a bug in the current Intel driver for the X
server triggered by something in the control center module. Certainly,
I can reproduce the hang between tabs, since the control center modules
are performing synchronous interprocess communication with other parts
of the system, but that looks like an entirely unrelated problem to
crashing the X server.

We're going to need more information to analyse this bug further. I
suggest we start with running "apport-collect --package=unity 1243297"
from a terminal to get updated information on the desktop Unity state,
and go from there.

[Bug 1209092] Re: network : gnome-control-center crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message

2013-10-23 Thread Iain Lane
Alright, I've taken the patch from upstream and I'm building a package
now.

There's currently a gnome-control-center under testing for a stable
update to 13.10 so I'd rather not clash with that. Once that clears
through testing we can do another round to include this fix. Keep
watching your emails for the call for testing when it comes.

[Bug 1175714] Re: Crash when opening/loading video file

2013-10-23 Thread TomasHnyk
Is it not a bug in Ubuntu packaging when self-compiling fixes it? And if
it is indeed a bug in gstreamermm, does upstream know about it? Last
time I tried to contact them, they were rather responsive (and it turned
out to be a bug in subtitleeditor or Ubuntu's packaging).

But anyway, it is almost impossible to find if it is marked this way and
it certainly affects subtitleeditor as it almost prevents it from being
used.

[Bug 1243817] [NEW] ibus crashes because of missing dependency

2013-10-23 Thread lordievader
Public bug reported:

Starting ibus-setup on a Kubuntu machine (14.04) results in the
following error:

from gi.repository import Gtk
ImportError: cannot import name Gtk

It turns out after installing the package "gir1.2-gtk-3.0" everything works
fine.
So perhaps "gir1.2-gtk-3.0" needs to be added to the dependencies?

Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)

2013-10-23 Thread Paul Gevers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, you state clearly that you are not using a
software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because
of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu, check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories

In Debian (which Ubuntu follows) much care was taken to split the
package logically. There is unfortunately no way around this issue,
unless we would give that up. We don't intent to do that.

[Bug 1241684] Re: Upgrade 13.04 to 13.10 Fail real-time signal 0

2013-10-23 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier
I think I hit this too.

Very puzzling because I first I used the GUI without invoking it from a
terminal. It worked for a while and then silently went away. Not even
an oil slick.

When I invoked it from a terminal (sudo update-manager -d) it had this
"Signal 0" message (which makes no sense to me since there is no signal
0 -- signals start at 1).

This was enough for me to google and get here. But no solution was
presented here, so I went to (thanks Kelly).

>From there I learned that the proprietary nVidia driver was the trigger
for the problem. I searched in vain for a GUI tool to switch back to
Nouveau (there used to be one in Settings: Hardware, but no more --
pity!). I tried the canned apt-get commands but they didn't work.

What appears to be working is using the command "do-release-upgrade".
Thanks to for mentioning this in
1203534

Unfortunately, because do-release-upgrade is working (as I type this), I
cannot go back and capture precise information about the "sudo update-
manager -d" failure.

[Bug 1243555] Re: Wireshark crashes with a SIGSEGV when starting a capture or opening a pcap file

2013-10-23 Thread Evan Huus
Based on the liboverlayscrollbar frames in the trace, this is probably
related to bug #1208583. It might even be a duplicate, though the
symptoms and stack trace are slightly different. Regardless, running
"export LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0" should probably fix the issue. If it
does I will reassign this to the overlay-scrollbar project.

[Bug 1243824] [NEW] Fullscreen apps in landscape mode expose the right edge gesture by tapping

2013-10-23 Thread Jim Hodapp
Public bug reported:

Problem:

If you run a full screen application by itself (no other apps running),
such as mediaplayer-app, and put it in landscape mode, tapping the
bottom edge triggers the switch app gesture.

Expected results:

Tapping the edge of the screen should do nothing except pass on the
touch event to the application to do whatever it wants to do with the
event.

Device: this was tested on maguro

Thomas, I'm asking for some small pure Swt code snippet runnable
separately (aka class with main method) that shows the problem. The
crash and the invalidate notifier are not related (me is 99% sure) and
it's discussed in bug 407077.

[Bug 1228095] Re: Enable default options for non-seat0 seats (no need of systemd-multi-seat-x wrapper)

2013-10-23 Thread Laércio de Sousa
Richard,

Please don't forget to include build option --enable-kdrive-evdev in
deban/rules! This is necessary for Xephyr-based multiseat setups (e.g. 2
seats using a single dual-head graphics card). In my work, I have some
setups of this kind.

One more thing: lately my tries to build xorg-server in Launchpad have
failed. The build process hangs in a unit test (xfvb-run). As a
workaround, I have to set

DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS += nocheck

in debian/rules

I hope you don't need to do this.
