[Bug 1316121] [NEW] Resume from Suspend - X Crashes

2014-05-05 Thread Avi Marcus
Public bug reported:

I have a fresh install of 14.04:
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

When I try a suspend, when it comes back it looks fine. But rather soon X
crashes.
Sometimes ctrl-ALT F1 doesn't even work. Other times it does, I try killing X
or lightdm but I'm not really sure I'm doing the right thing.

Today, I had two different ways it crashed: I tried opening a video. Audio was
playing in totem, but no video. It wouldn't close.
Also today, I had a chrome window open. I clicked a dropdown and it didn't even
display what was in the dropdown, it just froze everything.

I am using gnome-metacity (since I'm not such a fan of unity).

I have an nvidia card, but the nvidia drivers didn't seem to be
configurable. I am using nouveu but setting the 2nd screen's resolution
manually.

[Bug 1316124] [NEW] Actual Ubuntu Slapd totaly useless for serious use

2014-05-05 Thread Emmanuel Fusté
Public bug reported:

Please, as Debian recently (and finally ) do, ugrade/backport 2.4.39 to Ubuntu.
2.4.31 is two year old and full of know bugs critical in multi-server
replication config.
Even if 2.4.39 is not perfect, it is way more polished and usable than 2.4.31.
We could not wait two more years the next LTS release to catch up. And I would
like to avoid ./configure;make;make install.
It would benefit upstream too as
- actual Ubuntu users reports are useless for the developers because know old
fixed bugs or from an outdated codebase
- actual up to date codebase is not currently tested/used by Ubuntu users, not
helping to move forward.

Thank you for your attention.

[Bug 1316125] [NEW] Autofs leak file descriptors when reloaded (-HUP) and daemon may stop working on high # of shares/reloads

2014-05-05 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Autofs leak file descriptors when reloaded (-HUP) and daemon may stop
working on high # of shares/reloads.

[Test Case]

1. Configure a simple direct mount:

# cat /etc/auto.master
/- /etc/auto.direct

# cat /etc/auto.direct
/nfsserver:/nfs

2. Start the automounter and do NOT trigger the mount

3. Replace /etc/auto.direct with:

# cat /etc/auto.direct
/nfs/1 server:/nfs
/nfs/2 server:/nfs

4. Reload:

# kill -HUP $(pidof automount)

From now on, every reload will leak a file descriptor:

# ls -la /proc/$(pidof automount)/fd | grep /nfs

lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 11 - /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 12 - /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 13 - /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 14 - /nfs
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 14 22:08 5 - /nfs

[Regression Potential]

 * based on upstream commit: autofs - version 5.0.7 - dd66c61a - file
descriptor leak when reloading automount daemon. Tested with the same
test case fix the error and not changing any other behavior.

no problem, the ability to share folders was lost. My nautilus bookmarks
across the network now return: Failed to mount Windows share: invalid
argument When i tried to set a new folder to be shared, I was prompted
to go through the same installation of samba, I believe, that Ruben
wrote about.

[Bug 1307701] Re: Unity does not get touch events when QML apps running

2014-05-05 Thread Daniel d'Andrada
One thing that smells fishy is that the qml app starts getting touch
events even before compiz/unity7. I think that this should not happen as
the qml app does not subscribe for ownership events (unlike
compiz/unity7) and ownership is offered to compiz/unity7.

So the qml app should only get touch events once compiz/unity7 rejects
ownership of the touch sequence, but that's just not happening (qml app
was already receiving events from that touch sequence by that time).

Re: [Bug 1293569] Re: iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode causes network disconnections problems

2014-05-05 Thread Seth Forshee
On Sun, May 04, 2014 at 03:52:02PM -, Emmanuel Grumbach wrote:
can someone have a sniffer capture of this? This would be very useful.
One more point - if you can increase the debug level of the supplicant, this
 would be nice.

If anyone wants to try this, I have a script which might help. It can be
downloaded from http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/wifi-debug. After
downloading you need to do the following in a terminal after changing to
the directory where you donwloaded the file:

  sudo apt-get install iw tshark
  chmod +x wifi-debug
  sudo ./wifi-debug -p

Wait for the problem to occur, then press Ctrl-C and wait for the script
to finish. After it completes you will have a file named
wifi-debug-files.tar.gz with the requested data.

Note that this file will be large (potentially very large if it runs for
a long time) and may contain some private information, though WPA/WEP
keys should not be present and data sent on an encrypted network will be
encrypted. However you still may want to share the file in a less public
way, e.g. upload it to dropbox or similar and send Emmanuel or me a
link.

And if anyone has the know-how to capture a sniff using a monitor
interface on a separate machine, that would be preferable to the method
used in the script.

Thanks!

Also, there are 2 -8 firmware. One is 22.15.8.0, the other one is 22.24.8.0.
Can you please let me know which one you are using?
The version appear at load time.

Emmanuel: The firmware version in our linux-firmware package is
22.24.8.0.

[Bug 767745] Re: Audio stream to Apple airport express stutters

2014-05-05 Thread Dirk Seidel
For me the streaming to the airport express box worked fine from 11.04
till 13.10. Since the upgrade to 14.04 streaming is unusable because of
the stuttering. My setup: Kubuntu, phonon-backend-gstreamer, amarok.
With phonon-backend-vlc the stuttering is even worse.

I downgraded pulseaudio-module-raop from 1:4.0-0ubuntu10 (14.04) to
1:4.0-0ubuntu6 (13.10), but it doesn't help. My attempt to downgrade all
pulseaudio/phonon related packages resulted in a broken sound system,
even though the installation of the older packages succeeded. In the end
I downgraded to 13.10 again :-(

[Bug 1311929] Re: Linphone 3.6.1 Doesn't Send RFC2833 Tones

2014-05-05 Thread Matthias van der Heide
After upgrading Ubuntu from 13.10 to 14.04 LTS I can now no longer send
DTMF tones to my PBX. This used to work in the previous version of
Ubuntu.

My PBX specifies RFC2833 as the only way to send DTMF signals, and
Linphone is useless to me without it.

  * Prevent state confusion caused by allowing 'defaults' to trigger a reload

no button control inside the KCM we simply turn load() noop while the
manager is active. This is unfortunately not the nicest behavior, however
the module will reload whenever the manager finishes, so implicitly we

[Bug 1309138] Re: [webapp-container] reload() does not work

2014-05-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package webbrowser-app -
0.23+14.04.20140422-0ubuntu1

---
webbrowser-app (0.23+14.04.20140422-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Ubuntu daily release ]
  * New rebuild forced

  [ Alexandre Abreu ]
  * Fix the network dialog reload (LP: #1309138)
  * Oxide (and Chromium) does not inform of non user driven navigations
(or more specifically redirects that would be part of an
popup/webview load (after its been granted). Quite a few sites (e.g.
Youtube), create popups when clicking on links (or following a
window.open()) with proper youtube.com address but w/ redirection
params, e.g.:
http://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fgodzillamovie.com%2F;
redir_token=b8WPI1pq9FHXeHm2bN3KVLAJSfp8MTM5NzI2NDg3NEAxMzk3MTc4NDc0
In this instance the popup navigation is granted, but then a
redirect happens inside the popup to the real target url (here
http://godzillamovie.com) which is not trapped by a navigation
requested and therefore not filtered. The only way to do it atm is
to listen to url changes in popups also filter there. (LP:

[Bug 983673] Re: me-tv-client doesn't interrupt screensaver

2014-05-05 Thread Russel Winder
I am working with a fork of the 1.3.7 codebase. The current code for
attempting to inhibit screen save/screen lock is some low level dbus C
code. I am looking to replace this with C++ Gio::DBus code given this is
supposed to be a C++ application :-)

I am using GNOME Shell so the current org.gnome.ScreenSaver code is
basically a no-op, even using the more general
org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver. I am experimenting with
org.gnome.SessionManager.Inhibit just now. I have no way of working on
Ubuntu or any other system so someone else will have to drive
experiments on those platforms.

The log shows that while the module segfaults, the installation is

[Bug 1316151] [NEW] Compiz Grid plugin places the window in the wrong display

2014-05-05 Thread Huji Lee
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 14.04 LTS, compiz Grid plugin is not producing the
expected behavior. I am using the defalut keyboard shortcts to place
windows on the left/right of the current display. Placing on the left
side works properly; however, when I have a window on my left-side
Display, and I press ControlAltKP6 to put it on the right side of
the display, one of these three events happen at random:

* Sometimes it works correctly and places the window on the right half of the
screen.
* More often, it puts the window on the right-half of the *other display*.
* Sometimes it puts the window on the right side of the same dispaly, but with
a one-inch margin on the right side (so not touching the edge of the display).

This problem didn't exist with 12.04 LTS or 13.10 on the same machine
with the same config.

[Bug 1312902] Re: Update from 12.04 to 14.04 breaks latex-related packages and leaves them unconfigurable

2014-05-05 Thread SammyB.
Had the same problem.
After deleting /root/.texmf-config/ and /root/.texmf-var/ everything worked
fine for me.

I guess the problem is due to getnonfreefonts (- fonts like Arial...)

[Bug 1316155] [NEW] vdpau_drv_video.so should be linked by {r600, nouveau, radeonsi}_drv_video.so

2014-05-05 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Since the r600, nouveau and radeonsi drivers now have working vdpau
drivers, we should probably add sym-links to vdpau_drv_video.so for them
to be recognized by VA-API and to work without any user interaction.

Not sure if this actually applies to mesa-vdpau-drivers or vdpau-video
package (I'd say the first).

[Bug 1316156] [NEW] speakers audio won't work - pavucontrol is switching continually between speakers and headphones

2014-05-05 Thread Alessandro Ignis
Public bug reported:

The port is continually switching between Speakers and Heaphones and no audio
is outputting from the speakers. I have tried various distributions and have
found that this problems is NOT present in Ubuntu 11.04, 12.04, 13.04. I have
not tried 11.10, or 12.10. But have found 13.10 and 14.04 to show this
identical problem.
My main concern is for the 14.04 LTS version I am currently using.

- I tried regulating the audio from alsamixer -by disabling auto-mute in
alsamixer i managed to stop it switching from one port to the other. Still, no
audio from speakers (only a regular and low-volume BUMP comes out)
- I tried modifying the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file. Since i could not
find my pc (Packard Bell EasyNote MX45) in the alsa-configuration list, i have
tried using only the audio boards main info as referral (Intel HDA AD1986A
NM10/ICH7). Thus i have added to the alsa-base.conf the following and rebooted
after trying each and every new line (added only once per try, not all of them
together).
  -options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
  -options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd
  -options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
  -options snd-hda-intel model=generic

- Also tried the position_fix quirking suggested on the ubuntu documentation
pages
 -options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 1
 -options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 2

The audio outputted from the speakers kept being a regular BUMP and
nothing more, regardless of the input.

[Bug 1310823] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1525] Ubuntu freezes when lid closed

2014-05-05 Thread Pavel Selivanov
Back from vacations and it's looks like the issue is not or not entirely
in kernel.

I'm back to 3.13.0-24-generic and just installed gnome-shell 3.12 and
the problem is gone. I can now safely close and open the lid.

So, looks like that at least a 'trigger' for the freeze is somewhere in
Unity/compiz.

Gonna try again several different kernels.

[Bug 1315575] Re: poor wireless connection with current kernel

2014-05-05 Thread rob loranger
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

The new 3.13 kernel that came with kubuntu 14.04 creates some kind of
issue with my internet connection. I get severe lag and stalled
connections. I mostly noticed playing online games but also see package
d/l progress pause/freeze during apt upgrades and sometimes my browser
will not connect. The same day I upgraded there were no issues at all,
now they are there. I found out it must be the kernel as i am currently
using 3.11.0-19 and the issues have vanished.

Please let me know what other info to provide.
