[Bug 1330122] Re: Rename file ; keyboard echo fails after 2nd shifted char +...
I solved this problem, which appears to be the same problem that caused Chromium 34 to sometimes not accept keyboard input, by switching from ibus to fcitx (as was suggested somewhere in the discussion on Chromium). All I did was to go to synaptic and search for fcitx, and select for installation (it loads a few more pkgs). I did not have to remove ibus, and the keyboard icon in the notification section of the panel now looks different, and apparently concerns fcitx now, not ibus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1330122 Title: Rename file ; keyboard echo fails after 2nd shifted char +... Gunnar, Thank you for the response. I did subsequently find and use that, although it is not an HTTPS delivered resource. I also note the availability of OpenPGP-signed hashes, although I think that is beyond the capability of many if not the majority of mainstream Ubuntu users, and I don't have a PGP implementation installed on the Windows computer I'm using at the moment. I should have been more restrained, perhaps, in adding my prior comment to this issue. However, with the burgeoning security concerns these days also among the general population, I think it is helpful to encourage and support their being as proactive as possible. In other words, we *want* people checking against verified trusted hashes, delivered via HTTPS where the user is not yet comfortable with OpenPGP and tools that implement it. I hope I was and am not annoying here nor overly pedantic, especially inasmuch as I am a new contributor to the conversation, here. Again, perhaps I should have waited longer and investigated further, first, and/or refrained altogether from commenting. [Bug 1353354] Re: gnome terminal swallows tabs
I'm sure this behavior won't change. TAB is not a regular character, it is a control character, just like let's say escape sequences that move the cursor; copy-pasting doesn't include those either. It's a bonus that gnome-terminal tries to remember when a tab was emitted, most terminal emulators don't do this (you always get spaces when you copy). Tabs behave really weird when printed near the end of line. We'd need a special variable storing how many tabs were emitted that didn't move the cursor. Actually, we'd need to remember two values: there can be plenty of tabs printed that don't advance the cursor, followed by a letter (printed in the rightmost column, still not advancing the cursor), followed by again many tabs. It's just way too complicated and probably nobody's interested in counting those tabs. Note that when there's existing content (letters) and you move the cursor back and emit a tab, it doesn't override those characters, it just advances the cursor (that's the intent, a tab is a couple of move the cursor right operations rather than a couple of spaces) -- what should copy-pasting do then? It probably just can't be made consistent. Or, the only consistent way of handling them is always converting them to spaces. Consider keeping the tabs a convenience feature that sometimes works. There are other characters too that are lost when copying and pasting back, e.g. starting combining accents at the beginning of a line, too many combining accents over a character, carriage returns, form feeds, bell, etc... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353354 Title: gnome terminal swallows tabs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1353354/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1352886] Re: Resume from suspend fails after a long sleep
** Description changed: I'm on Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 with the standard 13.13.0-32 kernel. The Suspend feature works, if the sleep is for a short time. For longer duration's, shortest I've seen is 90 minutes, the machine will not resume. When I say not resume, I mean the chassis fan LED will flash once and nothing powers up. Due to the time, it is very difficult to debug. From now on I am going to put the machine to sleep with the 'pm_trace' feature. Hopefully it will provide some useful feedback. I have not attempted to hibernate for a length of time, though I presume it to have the same problem. In addition to this problem, after a failed resume, the reset button and holding the power button does not work. I have to physically cut the power. Also, I installed the latest kernel, v3.16-rc7, but after logging on I had no Desktop (only the wallpaper) and the keyboard did nothing. Being new to linux I'm not sure how to do anything in text mode. I don't have the time to step back through each version. If somebody knows which version may work I can give it a try. I also tried installing the 14.10 Desktop, but that version consumed so much CPU it took 60 seconds to open a window and a full 20 minutes to shut down. The Live version also behaved this way but I went ahead and installed it anyway. A few notes about my system: Radeon HD6790 GPU. Problem Exists with both of their available drivers (this includes their beta driver stated as being 14.04 friendly). I cannot use the Ubuntu driver as the GPU fan runs at full speed and slows the system down. ASUS M4A78LT-LE mainboard, with latest 3.01 BIOS. 2 Kingston 4GB DDR3 modules. I'm happy to perform a test and run any utilities, but like I said, I don't have the time to be downloading/installing version after version to find something that might work. The most recent pre-releases have not worked. The current stable version runs smoothly, except for the suspend issues. + + Update: + Using the latest mainline kernel, although I'm not able to log into a Desktop Environment (they all crash), I am able to use the terminal (CTRL ALT F1). I have added ALL modules to /etc/default/acpi-support and the problem persists. + The suspend command sudo sh -c sync; echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace; pm-suspend produced a Magic number but there was no accompanying hash matches line. + + The next step, and I need some help, is to modify the kernel as stated + at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Reference/S3 by introducing some ASM + feedback into arch/x86/kernel/acpi/wakeup_64.S. If anybody is willing to + help, if anybody is even reading this, I would like to test using my + current kernel 3.13.0 and it's targeted for AMD64. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1352886 Title: Resume from suspend fails after a long sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1352886/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1354730] Re: 14.04 grub-install failed: Wrong number of args: mapdevfs path
The failure is due to grub_probe() returning more than one line when using btrfs. In the case of a 4-device raid1 created with: make.btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sds1 grub_probe() returns and assigns to $rootfs: /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 which causes calls to mapdevfs to fail since it receives 4 arguments with error code 1 and message Wrong number of args: mapdevfs path. The fix is to amend the grub-installer script's grub_probe() function: diff -u grub-installer.orig grub-installer --- grub-installer.orig 2014-08-10 04:22:23.009006148 +0100 +++ grub-installer 2014-08-10 04:22:38.249815612 +0100 @@ -113,7 +113,7 @@ apt-install grub-common is_grub_common_installed=true fi - $chroot $ROOT grub-probe $@ + $chroot $ROOT grub-probe $@ | head -1 } ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1354730 Title: 14.04 grub-install failed: Wrong number of args: mapdevfs path To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1354730/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1299186] Re: Creating a Samba Share is not possible because 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name Everyone to a SID. Access denied.
First of all, this is NOT a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1261873. I get the same problem, while my [homes] section in smb.conf is ok, i.e. ALL the lines there are commented out. What happens on at least two independend installations of Trusty, one of them a fresh one: Trying to share a folder in Nautilus for the first time makes it automatically ask to install the samba package. This seems to work, but then a simmilar dialogue appears asking to install libpam- smbpass, too, but this time the whole dialogue is greyed out and clicking one of the two buttons (cancel or install) has no effect at all. It can only be closed clicking the x button in the top corner. Shares don't work then, as discribed before. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1299186 Title: Creating a Samba Share is not possible because 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name Everyone to a SID.
