[Bug 1369683] [NEW] ACER Travelmate B115-M-41RQ does not boot with various Ubuntu-Versions and Kernels

2014-09-15 Thread Frank Cronau
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 12.04.5 on my new ACER Travelmate B115-M-41RQ with the Kernel
3.8.0-44, but there are many Problems:
- There is no Battery detected
- Sound is not OK
- can't change brightness
- Problems with shurtcut-keys ...

So i tried to update different Kernels, but no kernel fixed my Problem.
I need about five atempts to start 3.14.2 normal or on recovery mode and it
stops on different
points. But then, sometimes, it starts and nearly everything ist ok.
WLAN, Battery, touchpad, keyboard-short-keys, sound, ... fine. Just
brightness regulation is not ok. But it ist't possible to shutdwon the system,
shutting down stops somewhere, ... and the next time, my system won't start
again, ... perhaps after fife atempts, ...

I also tried to install 14.04, but i just became a black screen, after
the first reboot, ...

So my question ist:
Which Ubuntu-Version runs on my ACER Travelmate B115-M-41RQ?
Is there a kernel for my ACER Laptop, which solves my Problems?

Sad but hopefull,
Frank from germany

[Bug 1369684] [NEW] Elantech touchpad locks cursor when touching with 2 or more fingers

2014-09-15 Thread Koen Roggemans
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 14.04.1, Unity desktop, kernel 3.13.0-35 generic on Intel
Classmate, MG Pupil 109

The touchpad is identified in dmesg as
[1.539535] mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
[2.528608] psmouse serio4: elantech: assuming hardware version 3 (with
firmware version 0x354f01)
[2.541184] psmouse serio4: elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result
0x39, 0x16, 0x09.

The cursor locks when you touch the touchpad with 2 or more fingers. The
only way I found to get it loose is reboot or suspend and resume.

modprobe -r psmouse
modprobe psmouse doesn' t work, also not with proto=auto

In systemsettings I disabled 2 finger scrolling without result

In dmesg I see messages like "psmouse serio4: Touchpad at
isa0060/serio4/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 5 bytes away during
normal operation". The number of bytes can be 4 too. When the cursor
locks up, I don't see such a message. Nothing is reported in dmesg.

Doing some research, I've learned that the touchpad should support multi
touch. Off course that doesn't work, since touching the pad with more
fingers makes it lock.

Any help much appreciated.

[Bug 1280905] Re: firefox on ubuntu 14.04 does not play mp4 files

2014-09-15 Thread auquicu
Just upgraded to trusty. there is no package "gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg":
# apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
Package gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is not available, but is referred to by another
package.

It is rumoured that one has to use libav nowadays. It would have been nice if
the upgrade process had taken care of that.
# apt-get install gstreamer1.0-libav
But that doesnt help.

The previous comment suggest that firefox-30 might be needed.
# apt-get remove firefox
Removing firefox (29.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.10.3) ...
# apt-get install firefox
Setting up firefox (32.0+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) ...

Maybe the version is 32 now. But no mp4 videos are played. Maybe someone can
publish a sequence of steps to follow
in order to get a trusty with firefox that plays mp4?

[Bug 1369692] [NEW] Sleep 2 -- Trust store dbus intf doesn't come fast enough up on start

2014-09-15 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hey

when restarting ubuntu-location-service, trust-store agent is restarted but
spawns too quickly; this is its upstart snippet:
start on (started dbus and xsession SESSION=ubuntu-touch) or \
:sys:started JOB=ubuntu-location-service
stop on desktop-end or :sys:stopping JOB=ubuntu-location-service

Currently, there's a sleep 2 to let some time to the service to come up,
but we should get rid of it by making location-service listen on that
immediately.

Cheers,

[Bug 1369101] Re: Lenovo Yoga 2 13'' with Intel 7260 wireless problems

2014-09-15 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream
kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That
will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a
quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to
email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a
bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-
reported-upstream'.

[Bug 1369693] [NEW] WebKit-based applications are sluggish in Utopic

2014-09-15 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

Today I made a fresh install of the latest daily build of 14.10
(Utopic). Unfortunately applications that use WebKit, including Geary
and Epiphany, are now strangely sluggish. When I type characters (e.g.
in a new message in Geary or in a form field in Epiphany) they don't
echo for several seconds. (During that time the system is apparently
not consuming CPU.) Scrolling through any page that contains a form
field in Epiphany is similarly painfully sluggish.

[Bug 1369481] Re: The trusty machine type should stick to the 2.0 version

2014-09-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug. Indeed we should re-set the trusty
machine type to point to 2.0.

We could introduce a utopic machine type, but since utopic won't be
supported at the next LTS I'm thinking of not doing so.

[Bug 1300684] Re: locale-gen --purge stops after purging the locales

2014-09-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Ok, I can reproduce it. Noticed that the environment when running the
script gets reduced to:

UPSTART_INSTANCE=
UPSTART_JOB=test
TERM=linux
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin
PWD=/

and that's not sufficient to run locale-gen.

Why on earth do you want to re-generate all locales at boot?

[Bug 1354710] Re: Backlight control does not work, but there are entries in /sys/class/backlight. Lenovo B570

2014-09-15 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
5c574f501d46be79a4a1344b63747844be3674f5

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1354710

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1369698] Re: xfce4-display-settings does not show up when connecting new screen

2014-09-15 Thread Yvan Masson
Sorry, after more testing I saw that my explanations are not good. In
fact, I see two different problems (which might go in 2 different bug
reports...) :

If the above box is tick and an external screen connected :
  - nothing appears ->
  - when you manually open "xfce4-display-settings", it also starts
"xfce4-display-settings -m"

-> without doing anything other than connecting the screen, "xfce4
-display-settings -m" should automatically start, or the text across the
box needs to be changed, for example with "When this window is opened
after the connection of an external screen, automatically configure the
screen."

If the above box is untick and an external screen connected :
  - nothing appears -> normal in my sense
  - when you start "xfce4-display-settings -m" via command line or keybiard
shorcut, it automatically open a other window of "xfce4-display-settings -m"

-> the result is two opened windows, really disturbing for the user.
It should check if one is already opened.

Sorry for the laborious explanations...
Thanks for your time and work.

2014-09-15 Thread Paul Pace
I am running vanilla Ubuntu Server 12.04 and I am experiencing this bug.

I have to say, if the new Ubuntu LTS plan is to require upgrading the
distribution before its scheduled support expiration, that's
disappointing.

[Bug 1369711] [NEW] Precise update to v3.2.63 stable release

2014-09-15 Thread Tim Gardner
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream

backported form of that patch. The v3.2.63 upstream stable

[Bug 1124250] Re: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2014-09-15 Thread William Van Hevelingen
Hi Dariusz,

chicken:~# cat /proc/key-users
0:32 31/31 25/1 537/20
 3404: 4 4/4 4/200 38/2
11254: 3 3/3 3/200 39/2

I'm seeing the issue on both of the latest kernels 3.13.0.36.43 and
3.13.0.35.42

Increasing the values maxkeys and maxbytes and rebooting seems to have
worked. I'll let you know if the systems change their mind.

[Bug 1320560] Re: Removal of gdmflexiserver breaks user switching

2014-09-15 Thread Tormod Volden
IMO, the session manager which launches xscreensaver should also tell
xscreensaver (or other screensavers) how to do user switching. It does
not make sense that xscreensaver should try to keep up with various
combinations of desktop environments and display managers and guess the
right commands.

I think this would be something for a freedesktop standard. Until then,
xscreensaver reads the X resource XScreenSaver.newLoginCommand run-time
so the session managers can simply set this.

I made this wrapper once: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-
maint/xscreensaver.git/commit/?id=f2136d9374bd072a0e6978c3a19c1a8cc2396726
but seriously this is not a good solution either.

[Bug 1265192] Re: Install/reinstall wipes out all/other partitions

2014-09-15 Thread Chris Bainbridge
@Stephane - do you plan to merge ubiquity-better-desc.patch or have any
comments regarding it? There are setups where os-prober will fail to
find a partition with an operating system, and go ahead wiping all the
partitions on the drive without telling the user. It is bad idea to wipe
the whole drive without telling the user. Also, what is to be done about
the auto-partitioning not working on multiple drive systems?

booted. I have just found this bug at some point in the past and I'm

[Bug 1369719] [NEW] xfce4-display-settings -m : Need to set "extended desktop" first to be able to select "mirror screens"

2014-09-15 Thread Yvan Masson
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When I plug an external screen, I launch xfce4-display-settings to
configure it.

If I click on "mirror screens" (it might not be the exact term, my desktop is
not in english), nothing happens (the external screen stays black/idle).
I need to set first "extended desktop" (which works), and then click on "mirror
screens" to have it working.

This bug does not appear if I use "xfce4-display-settings" (without "-m"
option).

Do not hesistate to aks for more informations.

Thanks,
YvanM
