[Bug 1401513] Re: virtualbox-dkms 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.6: virtualbox kernel module failed to build
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 1250618] Re: ogg123 can't play flac files with ID3 tags
There is no ID3 in the FLAC format. So technically ogg123 is right: As a FLAC file, your input file is corrupted. Personally, I blame the tools that allowed putting ID3 tags into non-MP3 files in the first place. There are proper ways to get the meta information into the file. But just putting an undefined ID3 section into the stream isn't one of them. However, seeing that there are files out there that are corrupted in such a way, the robustness of playing such files by just skipping the ID3 part might be a desirable feature. Otherwise people will just blame ogg123 for not being able to play the file. So in my opinion this isn't a bug, but a (possibly justified) "wishlist item". In case it helps your cause, I've provided a possible implementation of this new feature to the upstream bug tracker: https://trac.xiph.org/ticket/1988 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1250618 Title: ogg123 can't play flac files with ID3 tags To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vorbis-tools/+bug/1250618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1401532] Re: GRUB's Secure Boot implementation loads unsigned kernel without warning
The purpose of SecureBoot is to prevent untrusted modification of firmware, thus as per SecureBoot specs no unsigned code should be called before ExitBootServices() has been called. Thus one should be targetting as to how to bypass that when booted in secure boot mode. [Bug 967399] Re: [11.10] Elantech trackpoint does not work Lenovo
I've already posted my solution for this in Bug #1070207 which seems to be a duplicate of this bug. No need to recompile the kernel, just use DKMS :) Can confirm that this bug still exists on Lenovo L430/L530 with Ubuntu 14.10 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByR4ekc5XtmPTWxQUkdZWkt2YXM/view?usp=sharing The link points to a dkms tar.gz with a backported elantech driver from the current 3.18 kernel (that has the the fix for the issue included). I call it "backported" as it was _slightly_ changed. __set_bit(INPUT_PROP_POINTING_STICK, tp_dev->propbit); had to be commented out in elantech.c as kernel 3.16 doesn't support the INPUT_PROP_POINTING_STICK bit. Apart from elantech.c and elantech.h everything else was coppied from the latest 3.16 ubuntu kernel sources. This has been tested with ubuntu 14.10, *should* be compatible with ubuntu 14.04 (not tested) TL;DR: Download https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByR4ekc5XtmPTWxQUkdZWkt2YXM/view?usp=sharing sudo apt-get install dkms sudo dkms ldtarball psmouse-elantech-3-18.tar.gz sudo dkms install -m psmouse -v elantech-3-18 sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967399 Title: [11.10] Elantech trackpoint does not work Lenovo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/967399/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1336451] Re: Cannot boot/run ubuntu without acpi=off or nolapic. Freezes otherwise.
Sorry for the delay. My laptop was away for a while getting repaired. Apparently water magically appeared on the GPUs and the mobo. Allowing the repair to cost me instead of the manufacturer. Lovely :-/ Thanks for the replies. I appreciate all the help I can get. Fed up with windows lol. Anyway I tried to run apport-collect 1336451. I was unable to do so because there were missing python modules. At 1st it was pyqt4.qtcore. I managed to install that. But after that it was pykde4.kdecore and my Google-fu was not strong enough to find out how to get that. On the kernel side. I used the kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-vivid/ This is what I did: - Removed fglrx. - Rebooted with nomodeset and nolapic. - Installed: linux-image-3.18.0-031800-generic_3.18.0-031800.201412071935_amd64.deb linux-headers-3.18.0-031800_3.18.0-031800.201412071935_all.deb linux-headers-3.18.0-031800-generic_3.18.0-031800.201412071935_amd64.deb - Rebooted with only nomodeset. Unfortunately its still the same as before. Somewhere between 10 to 30 seconds after the login screen loads it freezes completely. The mouse stops moving, its unable to change to a different TTY and I have to force a shutdown by holding down the power button. [Bug 1401532] Re: GRUB's Secure Boot implementation loads unsigned kernel without warning
The presentation is about a bug in the UEFI implementation itself, which is not related to Secure Boot directly. It can affect Secure Boot and maybe turn it off, but that is not the direction I was looking for in this "bug" report. Of course, we are looking into several other aspects to circumvent Secure Boot, and this presentation is indeed relevant.
