[Bug 1472510] Re: Unbound returns SERVFAIL for specific query on dual stacked machine

2015-07-16 Thread Patrik Lundin
[Impact]
* Unbound is not able to look up certain hostnames in the default configuration
when running on a dual stacked (IPv4 and IPv6) host.
* The impact of this on users is that it can lead to a nasty surprise when a
currently IPv4-only host gets IPv6 connectivity.

[Test Case]
* On a machine that is currently dual stacked, you can verify the problem with
unbound-host. Forcing it to IPv4- and IPv6 only should work, while allowing
both will fail.
* IPv4-only (works):
===
unbound-host -4 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

* IPv6-only (works):
===
unbound-host -6 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

* Both (fails):
===
unbound-host -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

[Regression Potential]
* I am not aware of any regression risks. Looking at the upstream tree I am not
able to identify any diffs surrounding r3127 that seem relevant to this bump.

[Other Info]
* See attachement for debdiff against wily.

[Bug 1427406] Re: data corruption on arm64 and ppc64el

2015-07-16 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I'm sorry, but I don't see how we can carry these patches in the Ubuntu
MySQL packages.

Since Oracle no longer discloses details of their MySQL security
vulnerabilities, we have no other choice than to upgrade to their latest
upstream version when they publish vulnerability details. This implies
that we are relying on their internal testing for each release.

Adding these patches will prevent us from being able to update to a new
MySQL version as soon as it is available as the patches will require
porting and testing. Diverging from upstream also means we aren't
actually running the code that has passed their testing.

On top of that, there is no clear indication these patches will actually
end up in the next MySQL version, as there is a contributor agreement
issue.

Due to these reasons, I have to object to carrying these patches in
Ubuntu.

On top of that, there is no clear indication these patches will actually
end up in the next MySQL version, as there is a contributor agreement
issue.

Due to these reasons, I have to object to carrying these patches in
Ubuntu.

[Bug 1475174] Re: Unity launcher badges too small for smaller icons

2015-07-16 Thread gazhay
I understand the metrics, and difficulties in 'too small' in modern
computing. My only issue is that whatever function does the badge sizing
is allowing metrics which render the badge unreadable.

I would have thought there are other locations where text is sized
according to graphical elements successfully. Nautilus file manager?

With that respect it might be simpler to have someone familiar with
these issues to fix?

I'm experiencing this with the regular Gnome 15.04.
It happened while I've been continuously switching Enable Wi-fi on/off while
messing with my router because my SSID wasn't showing.
It was from a desktop after a reboot.
Restarting the NetworkManager.service (which was still active and running)
brought back the wifi functionality.

[Bug 1463373] Re: cc_apt_configure does not work with python3

2015-07-16 Thread Dan Watkins
** Description changed:

  The way cc_apt_configure.py writes out the script to fetch GPG keys
  breaks when using Python 3.

- * There's a constant, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cloud-init-dev/cloud-
- init/trunk/view/head:/cloudinit/config/cc_apt_configure.py#L39 that
- contains the script.
+ [Impact]
+ GPG keys specified in cloud configuration cannot be checked.

- * In getkeybyid, it's written to a temporary file:
- http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cloud-init-dev/cloud-
- init/trunk/view/head:/cloudinit/config/cc_apt_configure.py#L113
+ [Test Case]
+ Specify a key in a source in the apt_sources cloud config key, and ensure
that there aren't warnings about it in /var/log/cloud-init.log after boot.

- Python 3 throws an exception: 'str' does not support the buffer
- interface when doing the write.
-
- A very simple example:
-
- import tempfile
-
- fh = tempfile.NamedTemporaryFile()
- TEST_STR =  HELLO WORLD
- fh.write(TEST_STR)
-
- Will work with 2, but not 3.
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This part of the feature is completely broken at the moment, so very little
chance to regress.

[Bug 1475118] Re: Wily needs Samba 4.2 (4.1 is now EOL.)

2015-07-16 Thread satmandu
In clarification:

Samba 4.1 is in maintenance mode. After 9 months it goes to security
fixes only mode. After which it goes EOL.

That is expected around September/October 2016 as per
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Release_Planning

** Summary changed:

- Wily needs Samba 4.2 (4.1 is now EOL.)
+ It would be nice to get Samba 4.2 in Wily (4.1 in Maintenance mode for 6 more
months. EOL by 10/2016)

[Bug 1371233] Re: USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep

2015-07-16 Thread gazhay
Recently bought a new machine and put 15.04 on it fresh.

I can confirm that my scanner which I had got working thanks to a usb2
card, no longer works as the motherboard of my new machine forces you to
use xhci for all ports regardless.

There still seems to be some sort of bug in vivid.

[Bug 1474553] Re: I've tried to install Ubuntu 14.02.2 on an USB 2.0 Flash Drive with the help of an Ubuntu 14.04.2 LiveCD

2015-07-16 Thread Phillip Susi
Your hard drive is corrupt and unusable. I also notice that it fails to
report its model number and looks like it may be behind a USB to SATA
bridge. If so, it is likely defective, and you will need to connect the
drive directly.

nothing recently. :/

2015-07-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1475118] Re: Wily needs Samba 4.2 (4.1 is now EOL.)

2015-07-16 Thread satmandu
In clarification:

Samba 4.1 is in maintenance mode. After 9 months it goes to security
fixes only mode. After which it goes EOL.

That is expected around September/October 2016 as per
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Release_Planning

** Summary changed:

- Wily needs Samba 4.2 (4.1 is now EOL.)
+ It would be nice to get Samba 4.2 in Wily (4.1 in Maintenance mode for 6 more
months. EOL by 10/2016)

[Bug 1475174] Re: Unity launcher badges too small for smaller icons

2015-07-16 Thread Stephen M. Webb
'Too small' is a function of screen size, pixel density, viewing
distance, and user preference. For that reason, the only reasonable
solution for this would be to provide a user-visible per-display
configuration option with a reasonable default based on the display's
scaling factor.

This would make a good first project for someone looking to dive in to
Unity development.

Any idea when this will reached mainline kernels and be compiled for ubuntu?

Could it be backported to official ubuntu kernels?

[Bug 1401741] Re: rtl8188ee wireless driver high packet loss

My next plan is to setup a packet dump on both a router (or laptop) and

dropped more on the send or receive side. It might be a while, so if
anyone wants to get to it first :).

EMail to list: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-

[Bug 1473469] Re: maliit-server crashes on boot

2015-07-16 Thread Michael Sheldon
I haven't been able to reproduce this myself on boot (only by manually
stopping unity8), I notice there was also a bug logged at the same time
for unity8 crashes here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1473471

Does this only occur when unity8 crashes? If so that'd explain why it's
failing to make a Mir connection (since this is provided by unity).

[Bug 1294699] Re: Xubuntu desktop crashes in call to cairo after setting fixed-width bitmap (pcf) GTK font

2015-07-16 Thread Stephen Boddy
Terminator maintainer here. We also get hit with this if a user selects a
bitmap font in the preferences. You can select it no problem. You can even
reopen the prefs. The problem comes when you restart the program. If you /then/
try to open the Prefs, we get the same error as above. This seems to be an
issue when the cache has not yet been created maybe, and is a common problem
affecting multiple applications. See:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78787
and appears to be caused by this line:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/cairo/tree/src/cairo-scaled-font.c#n459
where the asserts were added here:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/cairo/commit/src/cairo-scaled-font.c?id=b5dcc8ce4450de1e48fd0586fddb5ed658719b28
and seem to somehow be related to working around threading/locking issues.

For info this does NOT happen on Precise (10.04) but DOES happen on
Trusty (12.04).

Unfortunately looking at the age of the cairo bug (2014-05-16), and the
lack of response (it's still marked NEW) we may not get any kind of
progress.

[Bug 1475168] Re: Sync virtualbox 5.0.0-dfsg-1 (multiverse) from Debian experimental (contrib)

2015-07-16 Thread Graham Inggs
This bug was fixed in the package virtualbox - 5.0.0-dfsg-1
Sponsored for LocutusOfBorg (costamagnagianfranco)

---
virtualbox (5.0.0-dfsg-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Gianfranco Costamagna ]
  * Imported upstream release (Closes: #792026).
  * Patch refresh.
  * remove obsolete lintian overrides.
  * add some wrongly removed lintian overrides.
  * Add VBoxDTrace not linked against libc lintian override.
It seems to really not use libc symbols.
  * d/rules: remove VBoxDTraceR0.debug and strip VBoxDTraceR0.r0
files.
  * d/rules: sed .gc to .rc (following upstream rename change)
  * update d/source.lintian-overrides file.

Thanks for reporting.

Since this bug was filed, python-neutronclient 1:2.6.0-1 has landed in

know enough about Openstack to tell whether the requirement is 2.4.0
exactly, or 2.4.0 or newer.

[Bug 1475023] Re: Wifi for Enterprise APs cause the welcome wizard to exit into the main system

2015-07-16 Thread Lukáš Tinkl
In my opinion the fix has to go into the network indicator or a system
settings component, whichever handles the network authentication. The
auth dialog currently works fine for plain PSKs, it should work equally
and transparently even for the more complicated cases like
WPA2/Enterprise

Hi Carlos,

Could you check the output of this grub-probe command (with three times
'v'):

/usr/sbin/grub-probe --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map
--target=fs -vvv /boot/grub

If your LVM where /boot is instaled is large, it's possible that its bug
(with a proposed patch) is your same case:
