[Bug 1481337] Re: please update keepalived to version 1.2.17 or higher

2015-08-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

In Ubuntu we do not update stable releases with new upstream versions in
order to keep stable releases stable, and keepalived in Ubuntu does not
currently have an exception on this. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for the policy and
rationale.

We can still fix specific issues by backporting their fixes from newer
upstream releases, so I'll turn this bug into one to track the specific
issue you're facing.

We can have a separate bug to track the update of keepalived in the
development release of Ubuntu (currently Wily) to a newer upstream
release, but it doesn't sound like that'll help you since your focus is
currently on 14.04.

[Bug 1483214] Re: ipmi_si module spams kernel log with ipmi_si 00:05: Could not set the global enables: 0xcc.

2015-08-11 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU Justtification

Impact: The driver code changed in 3.19 to do periodic checks on irq and
message settings
  commit d9b7e4f717a167610a49ceb9e5969e80146c89a8
ipmi: Periodically check to see if irqs and messages are set right
This causes repeated error messages in the logs for certain BMCs which do not
allow to disable the irq mode in the global config even when they do not
support irqs.

Fix: Cherry-pick upstream commit
1e7d6a45f6b10bc48a1453bca3d829e210546571 which adds a quirk to detect
this situation and avoids touching those bits. This was done in 4.0, so
the only affected kernel is 3.19.

Testcase: With an affected BMC and without the patch, errors repeatedly
get logged. With the patch applied, there will be only a single message
in the log.

This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need
to load to use lm_sensors most effectively. It is generally safe
and recommended to accept the default answers to all questions,
unless you know what you're doing.

Some south bridges, CPUs or memory controllers contain embedded sensors.
Do you want to scan for them? This is totally safe. (YES/no): YES

[Bug 1438757] Re: Please update Keepalived version on Ubuntu 14.04 to 1.2.10 (or above)

See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for the policy and
rationale.

If there needs to be an exception then somebody needs to come forward to
drive it.

The version in Wily is on 1.2.13 so already meets your request (though
not in the LTS for reasons above), so I'm marking this bug as Invalid.

[Bug 1483214] Re: ipmi_si module spams kernel log with ipmi_si 00:05: Could not set the global enables: 0xcc.

2015-08-11 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU Justtification

Impact: The driver code changed in 3.19 to do periodic checks on irq and
message settings
  commit d9b7e4f717a167610a49ceb9e5969e80146c89a8
ipmi: Periodically check to see if irqs and messages are set right
This causes repeated error messages in the logs for certain BMCs which do not
allow to disable the irq mode in the global config even when they do not
support irqs.

Fix: Cherry-pick upstream commit
1e7d6a45f6b10bc48a1453bca3d829e210546571 which adds a quirk to detect
this situation and avoids touching those bits. This was done in 4.0, so
the only affected kernel is 3.19.

Testcase: With an affected BMC and without the patch, errors repeatedly
get logged. With the patch applied, there will be only a single message
in the log.

2015-08-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

While the default sound for alarms is a nice sound, it's not really
suited for an alarm. It's way too low and soft. I mostly don't even hear

[Bug 1481337] [NEW] keepalived makes a floating IP available on more than one host after configuration reload

2015-08-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Robie Basak (racb):

The version in 14.04 is 1:1.2.7-1ubuntu1

There's an issue with reloading the configuration file, where the state
of VRRP gets 'confused' (in lack of a better description), resulting in
a floating IP being available on more than one host.

This issue seems to be fixed in 1.2.17. Since the package hasn't had an
update in over 2 years, I kindly request it to be updated to at least
1.2.17

For more information, see http://www.keepalived.org/changelog.html

Extra info:
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

1:1.2.7-1ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen

Keepalived config reloaded without interruption of services. VRRP should
notice VIP being present on one host and do nothing.

4) What happened instead

Keepalived config was reloaded but VRRP decided to activate the VIP on
the host that didn't have it previously. Resulting in routing errors
etc.

[Bug 1483457] Re: non-virtio devices get named with systemd predictable network interface names

2015-08-11 Thread Ryan Harper
net.ifnames should be set to 0 by default IIUC[1]. It appears that it's
not set in the wily kernel used in this image. I don't know where we
configure/control the default value.

We don't see this issue with virtio-net nics because systemd considers
virtio numbers to be unstable[2] and doesn't have a rule to name virtio
devices (aka the kernel name get's passed through always).

For e1000, this appears in the systemd database and thus gets renamed
via the default netrules based on slot location (en, slot 3) - ens3.

If we append 'net.ifnames=0' to the cloud image as of today and use an
e1000 nic, this skips persistent naming and the cloud image boots as
expected.

The trouble occurs when we don't have a nic named eth0 due to persistent
naming rules triggering and the cloud-image has eth0 embedded into it's
filesystem:

% cat /etc/network/interfaces.d/eth0.cfg
# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

[Bug 1272788] Re: php5-fpm upstart job is not compatible with precise upstart

2015-08-11 Thread James Qiang
Hi, Robie

FYI, here is the content in Trusty /etc/init/php5-fpm.conf file,

# Precise upstart does not support reload signal, and thus rejects the
# job. We'd rather start the daemon, instead of forcing users to
# reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1272788
#
# reload signal USR2

There is another bug report that you participated back in July
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1242376

I have tested the above solution: adding 'reload signal USR2' in
php5-fpm.override solve the problem.

released because the fix was actually released, and it's available to
you as long as you have the trusty-updates repositories enabled (which
should be enabled by default).

Hi Graham,
I am close. I have a package ready that I am testing at the moment.
The plan is to sift through the Debian/Ubuntu bug reports over the next
few days and see what is fixed, and what can be patched.
Cheers,
Ross

[Bug 901600] Re: Allow /etc/default/grub overriding via /etc/default/grub.d/

2015-08-11 Thread LenWeisberg
This feature looks very useful, but I have not found a shred of
documentation for it. The one aspect I can think of that is
not completely obvious is the order that the grub default files are read.

I did find from reading /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig
that all of the /etc/default/grub.d files are read in order,
  AFTER the /etc/default/grub file.

I hope that this point is noted when this feature does appear in
the Grub2 docs.

dmesg logs are attached when tests are done with new kernel provided

So does the system lockup as before? Also, the dmesg attached doesn't
