[Bug 1635376] Re: double-clicking on an executable created with gcc6 opens an error message

2016-10-21 Thread Hadrien
I did a test. I built the same program with gcc5 and gcc6, then I
compared the output of "readelf -a". It happens that Nautilus is right.
gcc on Ubuntu 16.10 creates a shared library by default instead of an
executable (the Type field in the ELF header is different).

[Bug 1635713] [NEW] bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271 fail to build on yakkety

2016-10-21 Thread Roberto
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I upgraded from xenial to yakkety, 7 days ago.

I didn't have any problem with xenial with kernel 4.4, I can install
bcmwl-kernel-source package, and kernel post procedures finish without any
error.
Before upgrade I tryed some kernels like 4.7 4.8 4.8.1 and 4.9 and I saw that
bcmwl-kernel-source package can be installed but DKMS fails to build module, so
no WIFI device working.

I was hoping the problem will be solved before final release, I have read
yakkety will use 4.8 keernel, but when I upgraded to yakkety few days ago I saw
it's not, I tryed also to download official source from broadcom sta driver web
page, but it's the same.

I have the last stable kernel released for yakkety linux-image-4.8.0-27-generic

[Bug 1635376] Re: double-clicking on an executable created with gcc6 opens an error message

2016-10-21 Thread Hadrien
@Khurshid Alam:
 - a.out has execution permission
 - the expected result is: no error message (I updated the bug description)

Obviously the a.out does nothing. I gave the most minimal way to
reproduce the problem. I could put an example of a program that opens a
window I you think it would make the bug easier to understand.

I have several projects I built recently since I installed Ubuntu 16.10
and they all gave me executables I cannot launch from Nautilus. There is
no problem when I launch them from a terminal.

[Bug 1635701] Re: Merge 0.11.0-3 from Debian Sid

2016-10-21 Thread Simon Quigley
Julien, since you were the last person who uploaded, I'm wondering if a
manual merge is still needed or if we can just sync.

It seems the translations were moved to lxqt-l10n, so we might not need
liblxqt-data any more.

What do you think?

[Bug 1611740] Re: remove grub, superseded by grub2

2016-10-21 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
grub legacy support is indeed removed from grub-installer now (see above
upload comment).

However, grub is apparently still required when building new AMI
instances for EC2. I think it probably best not be removed until we can
ascertain its use. I've asked the CPC team already.

According to the AWS docs:
http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/create-instance-store-ami.html
grub-legacy is still used to build images. I've used an approximation of that
logic to try to make a new AMI, and it looks like things still work without it,
except that the status monitoring then fails for the instance.

[Bug 1635706] [NEW] gcc 6 outputs a shared object by default instead of an executable

2016-10-21 Thread Hadrien
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.10 with gcc version 6.2.0 20161005 (Ubuntu 6.2.0-5ubuntu12)

* Install gcc: sudo apt install build-essential
* Build any program with gcc.
Minimal example: printf "int main() { return 1; }" | gcc -x c -
* Read the output file header: readelf -h a.out

Expected result: the ELF header Type shows: EXEC
Actual result: the ELF header Type shows: DYN

The side effect is that we cannot run any program built with gcc 6 from
Nautilus. Nautilus opens an error message saying it does not know how to
handle a shared library.

[Bug 1635716] [NEW] Can't bring up a machine on a dual network (ipv4 and ipv6)

2016-10-21 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

Trying to bring up a system with both IPv4 and IPv6 available should be
generating files in /run/net6-$iface.conf and /run/net-$iface.conf.

Both of these files may contain the DEVICE variable, as well as HOSTNAME
and DNSDOMAIN.

I made some small changes to the dhclient hook for the initramfs to
write that to both, since it does make sense for both IP protocols.
However, this causes cloud-init to fail since the device name is defined
in both files (ValueError, "defined multiple times" -- see screenshot).

[Bug 1629870] Re: Trouble installing mainline kernel 4.8: virtualbox-dkms 5.0.24-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.1: virtualbox kernel module failed to build

2016-10-21 Thread Stefan
I tried to install from the PPA linked above
(https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/virtualbox-
ppa), but it made things worse. The installation didn't go through.
Instead, there's an error message.

Setting up virtualbox-ext-pack (5.1.8-1~ubuntu16.04.1~ppa1) ...

Now Synaptic lists the packages as installed, but they do not run. Removing

[Bug 1634892] Re: Setting net.ipv4.neigh.default.gc_thresh1/2/3 on 3.13.0-97.144 or later causes 'invalid argument' error

2016-10-21 Thread Thomas Copeland

like 7b82096b0ebc9bf487b390fe970d66ffa5a5774e introduced the problem.

neigh: restore old behaviour of default parms values

commit 1d4c8c29841b9991cdf3c7cc4ba7f96a94f104ca upstream.

Previously inet devices were only constructed when addresses are added.
Therefore the default neigh parms values they get are the ones at the
time of these operations.

Now that we're creating inet devices earlier, this changes the behaviour
of default neigh parms values in an incompatible way (see bug #8519).

This patch creates a compromise by setting the default values at the
same point as before but only for those that have not been explicitly
set by the user since the inet device's creation.

Introduced by:
commit 8030f54499925d073a88c09f30d5d844fb1b3190
Author: Herbert Xu
Date: Thu Feb 22 01:53:47 2007 +0900

[Bug 1635677] [NEW] Right click rename: auto emptying file name is counter-productive.

2016-10-21 Thread Jiawen Chen
Public bug reported:

When I rename in nautilus, the file name (not including extension name)
will be cleared automatically. It is counter-productive when I want do
make minor change to the file name, for example pluralizing.
Unfortunately this case is one big use case.

Auto clearing the filename do not help users much. If I want to clear
the file name I just do it with one keystroke.

[Bug 1626436] Re: [4.8 regression] boot has become very slow

2016-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks Florian and Joseph! With the two patches it's definitively a lot
better! Boot times without NM and lightdm:

4.4: 1.5s
4.8.0-22 (zesty): 16.8s
4.8.0-26 (Joseph's kernel): 8.4s

So still quite far from what we used to have, but already twice as fast
as the current y/z kernel.

[Bug 1635684] [NEW] libglfw3-dev unnecessarily conflicts with libglfw-dev (for GLFW 2.x)

2016-10-21 Thread Jakub Narębski
Public bug reported:

The GLFW library exists in two versions: 2.7.8 and 3.1.2. Those two
versions can be installed in parallel... but for the libglfw3-dev
conflicting with libglfw-dev (which should be named libglfw2-dev).

There is no file conflict: GLFW 2.x uses /usr/include/GL/glfw.h, while
GLFW 3.x uses /usr/include/glfw3.h

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
libglfw3-dev 3.1.2-3

What I expected:
* libglfw-dev and libglfw3-dev can be installed together

What happened instead:
* selecting libglfw3-dev after libglfw-dev is checked unchecks libglfw-dev
* selecting libglfw-dev after libglfw3-dev is checked marks libglfw3-dev as
invalid

[Bug 1626243] Re: Cloud-init fails to write ext4 filesystem to Azure Ephemeral Drive

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Moser
It really does seem like this is an obvious case of needing to udevadm
settle so that the partition exists after partitioning and before
formatting.

I'm attaching a little shell script that really should reproduce the
failure, but I can't get it to.

How easily can you recreate this? If I give you a patched cloud-init,
could you be reasonably sure that it was now fixed?

[Bug 1633174] Re: skype systray icon wrong after suspend/resume

2016-10-21 Thread Lasse Kliemann
** Description changed:

Skype's systray icon is shown correctly at first. However, after
suspend/resume, it changes into a kind of "keep out" sign, as shown in
the attached screenshot. This wrong icon will stay there until a restart
  of Skype.

I am not sure whether this is a problem in Skype or the desktop
  environment.

  Description: Ubuntu 16.10
  Release: 16.10

Actually, I am running the 'devel' version of Ubuntu. I have not checked
  other versions.

  skype:
    Installed: 4.3.0.37-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
    Candidate: 4.3.0.37-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

Update: the icon breaks the moment that the screen is locked.

[Bug 1635683] [NEW] lxc bridged interface with multiple bridges sometimes assign the interface to wrong bridge

2016-10-21 Thread Yinon
Public bug reported:

I am launching a massive setup of 220 containers over 11 bare metal servers.
I set this in the profile for all containers:
lxc profile device add devstack-profile eth0 nic nictype=bridged
parent=br-lxd-mgmt
lxc profile device add devstack-profile eth1 nic nictype=bridged
parent=br-lxd-fip

stack@c6-bl-13:~$ lxc profile show devstack-profile

devices:
  eth0:
nictype: bridged
parent: br-lxd-mgmt
type: nic
  eth1:
nictype: bridged
parent: br-lxd-fip
type: nic

But I found that for some containers, the conf file was not created accordingly:
stack@c6-bl-13:~$ grep network
/var/log/lxd/nvp-scale-1-c6-bl-13-compute-2/lxc.conf
lxc.network.type = veth

[Bug 1635691] [NEW] Hardware backlight / brightness keys cause erratic, stuttered and seeming race-condition on DELL Inspiron 14-3452 (3000 series) laptop

2016-10-21 Thread Chris Rainey
Public bug reported:

Symptoms appeared after clean-installing Ubuntu 16.10. Worked perfectly
using 15.10 & 16.04.

DELL Inspiron 14-3452 (3000 series) laptop

Latest BIOS ver: 4.0.11

Upon pressing either the XF86monBrightnessUp or XF86monBrightnessDown keys in a
Unity-7 session, the OSD appears, sometimes delayed, and begins to lower or
raise the backlight level, repeatedly, to the maximum or minimum level. The
system comes under load and is less responsive to any input or attempts to
cancel / counteract the action.

Manual adjustments via the echoing of numbers-in-range to the
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness work normally and as
expected.

[Bug 1635684] Re: libglfw3-dev unnecessarily conflicts with libglfw-dev (for GLFW 2.x)

2016-10-21 Thread James Cowgill
There is a file conflict:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglfw.so

However this is a fairly academic question now since GLFW 2 no longer
exists in yakkety and I expect attempting to fix this in Xenial would be
too much for an SRU.

If you have an idea on how to fix this, I'd happily listen to it though!

Thanks,
James
