[Bug 1692225] [NEW] update-initramfs -u fails with random resume UUID
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04 32-bit In fstab I have: UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274 none swapsw 0 0 But I have 2 swap partitions on my hard drive, the other for a 64-bit instance. With this setting, suspend-to-disk (STD) was functional in ~ 50 % of the cases. Then I created /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume with: RESUME=UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274 and did sudo update-initramfs -u -k all. After this, the STD never worked again. So I extracted /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-78-generic and saw the surprising content, different from the swap-partitions UUID: RESUME=UUID=93782983-700c-4084-84b1-5e3f8c1e788f Another try of sudo update-initramfs -u -k all created another random UUID, both do not match with any partition UUID on my system. So I recovered my original system back from a backup image and discovered in conf/conf.d/resume from /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-78-generic: RESUME=UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274 So originally there was the correct UUID, even I never created a /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume file. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move snap user data from "$HOME/snap" to "$HOME/.snap" (or to "$HOME/.local/share/snap" in accordance with the XDG spec)
I agree with comments #2 and #3 regarding the urgency of this issue. As John Wang points out, it would be best to address this issue before the current data location becomes entrenched once more snaps are rolled out. In comment #11, Mark Shuttleworth suggested that “$HOME/.snap” makes sense. I too prefer placing snap user data in the “$HOME/.snap” location. But I notice that flatpak places flatpak user data in “$HOME/.local/share/flatpak” in accordance with the XDG spec. Public bug reported: Apport doesn't allow the upload, because it's a known error. Since I never had an issue I'd like to report the multiple syntax errors in the .postinst file of grub-pc. Terminal output excerpt: sudo apt upgrade 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. 1 not fully installed or removed. Setting up grub-pc (2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10) ... /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst: line 703: syntax error near unexpected token `fi' dpkg: error processing package grub-pc (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: grub-pc E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I've started to fix grub-pc.postinst step by step, because after removing the 'fi' in line 703 there occur more and more til line 740, e.g. semicolons, brackets and at the end it says unexpected end of file, which I was unable to fix, original it says exit 0. I've tried several inputs, looked at examples of other .postinst files, but nothing worked. Renaming /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst and reinstalling grub-pc didn't help. dpkg --configure -a and dpkg-reconfigure didn't help. It would be nice if someone could fix the syntax. [Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full
** Description changed: System calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools when purging/removing a linux-image-extra package. That calls "update- initramfs -c" which needs significant amount of additional disk space in /boot temporarily. But there is no space left, if /boot is full. + Likewise /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms may call "update-initramfs -u". + The fix could be to create the new initrg.img file in different partition before replacing the old one by it in update-initramfs. So the update-initramfs script should be fixed. But there may not be such a partition.. Anyway the likely case when space runs out is when there is a separate /boot partition. - Alternatively the init script should remove the respective /boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra package. That could also be done by + Alternatively the init scripts should remove the respective /boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra package. That could also be done by update-initramfs -d -k Related question: http://askubuntu.com/q/898499/21005 The output of 'dpkg --purge' presented there shows that corresponding linux-image package may get successfully removed while the linux-image-extra is left broken. [Bug 1159707] Re: Cinnamon panel / task bar becomes unresponsive to mouse
Sorry, my comment disappeared, I'll try again. My Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon task bar did not respond to clicks from the touch pad. Nor did the quick-launch, the system tray, or the Menu - in short, the whole bottom bar of the desktop. The Menu responded to the Windows (Super) key, but when I clicked on it, it disappeared without responding. In the Welcome Screen, I clicked on Drivers, and, after the Driver Manager demanded my password and updated the cache, it offered me three choices of driver for my NVIDIA C77 GEForce 8200M G ( I don't know what that is - a graphics card?). On the advice in a comment above, I changed my selection from nvidia-304 to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, an open-source driver. This ended the above problem. What problems it causes I don't know - maybe loss of some function I don't care about. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1159707 Title: Cinnamon panel / task bar becomes unresponsive to mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1159707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
