[Bug 1310489] Re: xorg.conf overwritten by booting system

2017-05-20 Thread Lian Sebe
Found an (idiotic but) efficient workaround!

protect /etc/X11/xorg.conf to be overwritten using:
chattr +i /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then, don't forget to unprotect it and protect it back each time you
want to modify it.

[Bug 1690574] Re: Fix autopkgtest regression with webkit2gtk 2.16.2

2017-05-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
The sphinx tests now pass with the webkit2gtk 2.16.2 SRUs.

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/sphinx/zesty/amd64
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/sphinx/yakkety/amd64
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/sphinx/xenial/amd64

Apparently, xenial's webkit2gtk does not trigger sphinx autopktests though:
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/xenial/update_excuses.html#webkit2gtk

One issue is that some sphinx rdepends have failing autopkgtests, but this was
likely an already existing issue.
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/zesty/update_excuses.html#sphinx
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/yakkety/update_excuses.html#sphinx

I recommend that the sphinx SRUs be accepted; otherwise all of the
sphinx autopkgtests for yakkety and zesty will fail once webkit2gtk
enters -updates.

sudo nano /var/lib/dpkg/info grub-pc.postinst

change line 699 from:

to

[Bug 1692225] [NEW] update-initramfs -u fails with random resume UUID

2017-05-20 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 32-bit
In fstab I have:
UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274 none  swapsw  0
0
But I have 2 swap partitions on my hard drive, the other for a 64-bit instance.
With this setting, suspend-to-disk (STD) was functional in ~ 50 % of the cases.
Then I created /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume with:
RESUME=UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274
and did sudo update-initramfs -u -k all.
After this, the STD never worked again. So I extracted
/boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-78-generic and saw the surprising content, different
from the swap-partitions UUID:
RESUME=UUID=93782983-700c-4084-84b1-5e3f8c1e788f
Another try of sudo update-initramfs -u -k all created another random UUID,
both do not match with any partition UUID on my system.

So I recovered my original system back from a backup image and discovered in
conf/conf.d/resume from /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-78-generic:
RESUME=UUID=38e6603c-6b17-488a-9613-7341e8e89274
So originally there was the correct UUID, even I never created a
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume file.

Now I do not have any idea, why sudo update-initramfs -u -k all doesn't
create correct values to make STD always working reliably.

2017-05-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Daniel, you are welcome to file a new bug if you think Suspend needs to
be more prominent. This bug isn't a good fit since GNOME Shell is quite
a bit different now than it was 6 years ago when it was first release.

For the average user using a laptop, a Suspend button doesn't seem
necessary to me since closing the laptop lid will also suspend the
computer by default.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move snap user data from "$HOME/snap" to "$HOME/.snap" (or to "$HOME/.local/share/snap" in accordance with the XDG spec)

2017-05-20 Thread GizmoChicken
I agree with comments #2 and #3 regarding the urgency of this issue. As
John Wang points out, it would be best to address this issue before the
current data location becomes entrenched once more snaps are rolled out.

In comment #11, Mark Shuttleworth suggested that “$HOME/.snap” makes
sense. I too prefer placing snap user data in the “$HOME/.snap”
location. But I notice that flatpak places flatpak user data in
“$HOME/.local/share/flatpak” in accordance with the XDG spec. See
https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/wiki/Filesystem So an argument could
be made for placing snap user data in "$HOME/.local/share/snap" to
conform with the XDG spec.

** Summary changed:

- User data directory should conform to XDG Base Directory Specification
+ Please move snap user data from "$HOME/snap" to "$HOME/.snap" (or to
"$HOME/.local/share/snap" in accordance with the XDG spec)

[Bug 1692102] Re: [SRU] New stable micro release 2.30

2017-05-20 Thread Leo Arias
In order to accept this release in the -updates pockets of xenial,
yakkety and zesty, the following tests must be executed:

Plugins:
 * Run the kernel manual tests documented in `manual-tests.md`.
 * Build a snap with that uses meson.

Sources:
 * Build a snap with a 7zip source.

Store:
 * Run the release, close and status commands in snaps with channels.

Exploratory:

 * Build snaps with SNAPCRAFT_BUILD_INFO=1
   * Check that a snap can be build with the resulting
`snap/prime/snapcraft.yaml`.
 * Run all the snapcraft commands in different scenarios including failure
conditions.
 * Cleanbuild snaps with local and remote containers.

This package is in -proposed specifically to catch such mistakes before
they hit -update. Don't run your prod with -proposed enabled.

[Bug 1684341] Re: EFI fallback binary should not be installed in --removable mode

2017-05-20 Thread DorianDaumiller
looks like this change broke the installation process of grub-
pc_2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10 for me (syntax-error in grub-pc.postinst).
Please see bug #1692175, which is for grub-efi-amd64
2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10 but I believe the file might be the same anyway.

Side question: How do you link two bugs as related if they're not duplicates?

[Bug 1692235] [NEW] Syntax error in .postinst - broken package

2017-05-20 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Apport doesn't allow the upload, because it's a known error.
Since I never had an issue I'd like to report the multiple syntax errors in the
.postinst file of grub-pc.
Terminal output excerpt:
sudo apt upgrade
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Setting up grub-pc (2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst: line 703: syntax error near unexpected
token `fi'
dpkg: error processing package grub-pc (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 grub-pc
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I've started to fix grub-pc.postinst step by step, because after
removing the 'fi' in line 703 there occur more and more til line 740,
e.g. semicolons, brackets and at the end it says unexpected end of file,
which I was unable to fix, original it says exit 0. I've tried several
inputs, looked at examples of other .postinst files, but nothing worked.

Renaming /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst and reinstalling grub-pc
didn't help.

dpkg --configure -a
and
dpkg-reconfigure
didn't help.

It would be nice if someone could fix the syntax. Thanks!

[Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2017-05-20 Thread Jarno Suni
** Description changed:

  System calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools when
  purging/removing a linux-image-extra package. That calls "update-
initramfs -c" which needs significant amount of additional disk space in
/boot temporarily. But there is no space left, if /boot is full.

+ Likewise /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms may call "update-initramfs -u".
+
The fix could be to create the new initrg.img file in different partition
before replacing the old one by it in update-initramfs. So the update-initramfs
script should be fixed. But there may not be such a partition..
Anyway the likely case when space runs out is when there is a separate /boot
partition.

- Alternatively the init script should remove the respective
/boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra
package. That could also be done by
+ Alternatively the init scripts should remove the respective
/boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra
package. That could also be done by
  update-initramfs -d -k

  Related question: http://askubuntu.com/q/898499/21005
The output of 'dpkg --purge' presented there shows that corresponding
linux-image package may get successfully removed while the linux-image-extra is
left broken. If the linux-image-extra package will be removed later, the
post-installation script will create an initrd.img file for a non-installed
kernel! Same would happen, if removing would be done by apt-get purge.

[Bug 1692233] [NEW] Unable to install language packs

2017-05-20 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
Public bug reported:

I have found that on my Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 installation with GNOME
3.24.1 that if I open the "Region & Language" section of the gnome-
control-center that even though in Terminal it is indicated that there
are Enlish (UK) packages to install, it doesn't do anything in the GUI.
And if I attempt to install a new language the whole window just really
quickly flashes once but nothing else happens. Here is the output from
Terminal:

** (gnome-control-center:9685): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher gufw

** (gnome-control-center:9685): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher
landscape-client-settings (missing desktop file)

(gnome-control-center:9685): common-cc-panel-WARNING **: Language

I know other people who are experiencing this issue and the only way for
them to install new languages is to install the gnome-language-selector
from Unity.

[Bug 1688298] Re: [MIR] rhash

2017-05-20 Thread Matthias Klose
- the package needs a bug subscriber
 - this is a release from 2014. Is the package maintained in Debian?
 - please update to 1.3.4
 - still not sure if it is best to use the separate source, there are only two
reverse dependencies,
but it should be ok with a recent release.

[Bug 1688056] Re: Package outdated

2017-05-20 Thread ajgreeny
I have just downloaded the .deb version of the plugin 0.8.9-1 from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-weather-
plugin/0.8.9-0ubuntu1/+build/12025316 and installed it in Xubuntu 16.04
using gdebi and it is working fine, so I assume that it has already been
patched with the new api.

[Bug 1159707] Re: Cinnamon panel / task bar becomes unresponsive to mouse

2017-05-20 Thread Joe Finucane
Sorry, my comment disappeared, I'll try again.
My Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon task bar did not respond to clicks from the touch
pad. Nor did the quick-launch, the system tray, or the Menu - in short, the
whole bottom bar of the desktop. The Menu responded to the Windows (Super) key,
but when I clicked on it, it disappeared without responding.
In the Welcome Screen, I clicked on Drivers, and, after the Driver Manager
demanded my password and updated the cache, it offered me three choices of
driver for my NVIDIA C77 GEForce 8200M G ( I don't know what that is - a
graphics card?). On the advice in a comment above, I changed my selection from
nvidia-304 to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, an open-source driver.
This ended the above problem. What problems it causes I don't know - maybe loss
of some function I don't care about.

Can confirm that this problem exists. Ubuntu 17.04 (stable)

I tried everything, changing the driver to "intel", changing it to the
open-source variant, none of the methods work.

Is there a missing semicolon on line 699 ?

if dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt-nl 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10
then

should than not be:

if dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt-nl 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10 ;
then

Correcting that in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-efi-amd64-signed.postinst
and running
sudo dpkg --configure grub-efi-amd64
allows the installation to complete without error
