[Bug 1761626] Re: [regression] bionic 4.15.0-13-generic panics on qemu ppc64el

2018-04-08 Thread Ryan Finnie
I'm not even remotely sure about things here, so some raw notes:

* Current bisect effort ("oh man, this will take forever"):

# bad: [69973b830859bc6529a7a0468ba0d80ee5117826] Linux 4.9
# good: [c8d2bc9bc39ebea8437fd974fdbc21847bb897a3] Linux 4.8

git bisect good a5af7e1fc69a46f29b977fd4b570e0ac414c2338
# bad: [a379f71a30dddbd2e7393624e455ce53c87965d1] Merge branch 'akpm' (patches

git bisect bad a379f71a30dddbd2e7393624e455ce53c87965d1

* Found ppc_tm=off, tried it on 4.15.0 generic, works!

* Might be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1664622 - might be a
qemu issue

* 4.15.0 does work on scalingstack bos02 POWER8 KVM xenial xenial hosts
(-machine pseries-xenial,accel=kvm,usb=off -cpu host), but I figured
that had already been tested and would have been noticed by now. (If I
hadn't mentioned before, the host running the ppc64el fullvirt VM at
home is a xenial host.)

* See also http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-
ppc/2018-01/msg00021.html - might be mitigated with pseries-2.12 with a
bionic host qemu setup, but I don't have an easy way to test with a
bionic host + qemu at the moment.

[Bug 1762306] [NEW] Installer does not offer selection of either or both of two drives

2018-04-08 Thread Howard Moreland
Public bug reported:

At the screen preparing to install Kubuntu, I selected the button "Guided - use
entire disk and set up encrypted LVM". System has two hard drives, sda with
both Mint 18.3 and Bionic 18.04; sdb with Bionic 18.04. The installer graphic

It actually used both drives in an LVM arrangement.

[Bug 1762308] [NEW] Use entire disk kept home from existing system

2018-04-08 Thread Howard Moreland
Public bug reported:

At the screen preparing to install Kubuntu, I selected the button "Guided - use
entire disk and set up encrypted LVM". System has two hard drives, sda with
both Mint 18.3 and Bionic 18.04; sdb with Bionic 18.04. The installer graphic
showed it would use all of sda for Kubuntu.
It actually used both drives in an LVM arrangement.

This did not delete the existing systems and install an all new Kubuntu.
It kept the home folder from the existing Kubuntu and installed the
software that had been add to it.

This could be a very useful option, but I expected an erase and clean
installation.

[Bug 1749150] Re: Spontaneous single window freezing

2018-04-08 Thread Valentin Nechayev
Well, I was unable to spend much time in Gnome to reproduce the effect or
refute it.
OTOH it wasn't reproduced since this ticket start on host 1 and became much
less frequent on host 2, after I switched drivers on it nvidia->nouveau and
back.
Also a new laptop showed it, but also rather rarely.

I would second the guess it is KDE specific due to absense of other
ideas.

[Bug 1319542] Re: Unity urgent animation needs an adjustable time length.

2018-04-08 Thread Martín Ferrari
Since the Launcher is not usable for me for the same reasons already stated (I
use Ubuntu for work and this causes me a lot of trouble), I've downloaded the
sources for Unity (I'm on Ubuntu 17.04) and modified the Launcher, so it will
wiggle urgent icons every 10 seconds, whether the Launcher is hidden or not.
Ideally, this interval should be configurable, but I haven't found yet how to
read the config info.
I would like to contribute this code if someone is interested, but I don't
know how.

For me, ideally the wiggle should last a bit longer, and the icon
should reveal completely when the Launcher is hidden, but that change
would be a bit more complicated, I assume (haven't really looked too
much into it).

[Bug 1745646] Re: Battery drains when laptop is off (shutdown)

2018-04-08 Thread Gopal
git bisect good
de3ef1eb1cd0cc3a75f7a3661e10ed827f370ab8 is the first bad commit
commit de3ef1eb1cd0cc3a75f7a3661e10ed827f370ab8
Author: Rafael J. Wysocki
Date: Sat Jun 24 01:58:53 2017 +0200

PM / core: Drop run_wake flag from struct dev_pm_info

The run_wake flag in struct dev_pm_info is used to indicate whether
or not the device is capable of generating remote wakeup signals at
run time (or in the system working state), but the distinction
between runtime remote wakeup and system wakeup signaling has always
been rather artificial. The only practical reason for it to exist
at the core level was that ACPI and PCI treated those two cases
differently, but that's not the case any more after recent changes.

For this reason, get rid of the run_wake flag and, when applicable,
use device_set_wakeup_capable() and device_can_wakeup() instead of
device_set_run_wake() and device_run_wake(), respectively.

Your package system seems to be out of sync somehow, and if you need
help to sort that, you may want to ask for support:

Closing this bug report, since the issue isn't likely a bug which can be
fixed. If your further investigation indicates otherwise, please file a
new bug report with a description of how the bug can be reproduced.
