Created attachment 124800 daemon: get local users from /etc/shadow not /etc/passwd For some sites, it's common practice to rsync around large /etc/passwd files containing the password entries for remote users. This needs further investigation as potential stack > corruption. The passing of the local GList variable by address to the "files added" signal handler does not seem to be causing any problems as far as I can see. The problems seem to be caused when files are added to the list model multiple times by the file monitor after a move / rename operation. This seems to have somehow resulted in NULL collate keys which are causing the crash in strcmp(). The patch of thunar_folder_monitor to stop the "files added" on "move event" behavior is still working for me. Maybe this is something that can be crowdfunded. Please *don't* flame me for making this suggestion but as someone who loves xfce and thunar I'd be happy to contribute money towards such a goal and so would many others who are tired of thunar crashing. (In reply to Roy Richardson from comment #92) > #4 0x74e23c7a in g_object_unref () from /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0 > #5 0x0043d862 in thunar_file_info_clear (file=0x7fffe00203b0) at > thunar-file.c:912 This is most likely due to multiple threads clobbering the GFileInfo within the same ThunarFile. At this point, I guess I would say that the basic design of sharing the common hash table of ThunarFiles between multiple threads is flawed. Worker threads ought to be using their own local copies until they're finished, and then send the data back to the main thread in a orderly fashion (probably making use of g_idle_add). I implemented something of the sort when I rewrote the playlist code of Audacious a few years ago. Nothing can proceed forwards until we get some feedback from the main xfce developers. Offering a bounty is a nice idea but I still think this requires something bigger. We really need to crowdfund to hire a software engineer to re-write a significant chunk of code rather than just work out a single fix. It might even lead to some of the other papercut bugs getting sorted (I know I've posted bug reports for several small "weird" behaviours that shouldn't be considered "normal" behaviour in a file manager. It would be nice to know "yes, we have it sorted" > or "no, we have no clue". Harald Judt is in charge of Thunar, but he appears to not have much spare time at the moment. I highly doubt anyone is working on porting Thunar to GTK3 at the moment, nor could I find anything about it in the mailing list (it would be wise to ask around tho). My impression is that many Xfce components are severely lacking manpower. Hence my suggestion. Firstly, I apologise for being such newbie in these things, if this post does not belong here, please ignore it. I am experiencing this same bug as many people reported, This looks like the best solution I have found. As I do not know where to ask, I ask here: Is there any guide / list of detailed steps, or even some automatic script to use for building the patched version of thunar that I could build? (I have never do such thing as compiling program from source, do not how to "apply a patch" - as I said I'm a total newbie. [Bug 1512120]
slumbergod is right: The bug has not been tracked down, yet. By now it seems pretty clear that the bug is caused by different threads that operate on the same data(structures). Unfortunately bugs, which are related to multithreading are hard to track down, since they are non- deterministic and different parts of the code, which are executed concurrently, may need to be adapted. However, it seems that nobody really understands the code, but just fiddles around with it, in hope the bug will magically disappear. If debugging is done this way, it is much more likely that the opposite effect will occur: New bugs are introduced. Roy for example proposed in comment #71 to add an additional check to the code: > if (!THUNAR_IS_FILE (file)) >{ > return NULL; >} This additional check may reduce the number of crashes, but it does not cure the cause (As Roy discovered in comment #72): If the OS triggers a thread switch between the check and the execution of the following operations, the result of the check may no longer hold. I guess, that some type of synchronization will be needed to patch the bug. Therefore is it necessary to identify the critical sections and implement mutual exclusion. PS: Sorry, if this post sounds a bit harsh. I do not want to offend anyone - especially not Roy - but just want to point further efforts into the right direction. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512120 Title: [SRU] thunar crashes on file renaming To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunar/+bug/1512120/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1775777] [NEW] allow /dev/vfio/vfio in general
Public bug reported: VFIO is currently leaving an edge case that can kill PCI Hotplug. There are these things in place: 1. if a guest spec has a hostdev it will add /dev/vfio/vfio /dev/vfio/[0-9]* This works fine 2. If a device is hotplugged the custom vfio addr is resolved and added to the per-guest profile as per-device entry like "/dev/vfio/162" rwk This works fine and is even better since at this time it can deternine just the device it needs But #2 needs /dev/vfio/vfio access before knowing any of that. That leads to the case that if one has one hostdev, he can plug more and be fine. But without any hostdev in the initial description the guest will not be allowed to access /dev/vfio/vfio which is needs to determine the indifidual entry. Due to that it completely fails and it can't be hotplugged. Per https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/vfio.txt the base /dev/vfio/vfio is safe and is not an attach vector. So we should allow /dev/vfio/vfio in general. ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Triaged ** Tags: libvirt-18.10 ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Tags added: libvirt-18.10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775777 Title: allow /dev/vfio/vfio in general To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1775777/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As a workaround you can manually update the existing client keys for nova-compute using: sudo ceph auth caps client.nova-compute mon 'allow r, allow command "osd blacklist"' osd 'allow rwx' from any mon unit. ** Changed in: nova Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: ceph (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: cloud-archive Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: qemu (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Also affects: charm-ceph-mon Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: charms.ceph Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: charms.ceph Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: charm-ceph-mon Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: charms.ceph Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: charm-ceph-mon Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: charm-ceph-mon Milestone: None => 18.08 ** Changed in: cloud-archive Assignee: Sean Feole (sfeole) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu) Assignee: Sean Feole (sfeole) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773449 Title: VM rbd backed block devices inconsistent after unexpected host outage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-ceph-mon/+bug/1773449/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1775771] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.134 stable release
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.134 upstream stable stable patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu kernel as well. git://git.kernel.org/ TEST CASE: TBD The following patches from the 4.4.134 stable release shall be applied: ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Tags: kernel-stable-tracking-bug ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775771 Title: Xenial update to 4.4.134 stable release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1775771/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since there isn't enough information in your report to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: net-snmp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775562 Title: package libsnmp30:amd64 5.7.3+dfsg-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: package libsnmp30:amd64 is not ready for configuration cannot configure (current status 'half-installed') To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/net-snmp/+bug/1775562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
