[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-06-13 Thread Lasse
** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Hardware: HPE ProLiant DL360 gen9
  Ubuntu Version: 18.04

Problem: When rebooting the server, everything goes well (shutting down
services, unmounting etc) until the last step where it reads "Starting
Reboot". At this point the system is getting stuck and nothing else can
can be done than holding the power button in for a long enough time to
turn it off. At the same time as the system get stuck, a red error light
is lightening up on the server. This light is green until it reaches
this "Starting Reboot" stage. The same happens if the server is
shutdown, with the difference that the last message is "Starting Power-
  Off" instead of "Starting Reboot".

The server is installed with a new clean 18.04 installation. This server
was rebooting/shutting down without a problem with all releases between
  16.04 and 17.10.

This problem is serious as it prevents remote reboot.

i do not see any DENIED or AppArmour related messages in dmesg... at least not
via various grep searches...

i don't see any entries in /var/log/libvirt that i can tell are relevent... i
have a log for a copy of one of the 64bit VMs and the only thing that i can see
that might indicate it was panicked is the "signal 15" terminations where i had
to "Force Stop" the VM... that guest was created for troubleshooting... it only
had the CPU section removed and the video changed to Cirrus... it uses the
original guest's img... here's that log: https://pastebin.com/cs1i6s7B

for the kernel request... both were upgraded at the same time...

on the kernel panic data... all i have is two screen shots from the VM's
console...
here's the 1st one with video set to VMVGA: https://imgur.com/a/esjOwJ9
here's the 2nd one with video set to Cirrus: https://imgur.com/a/JjoMSLF

i'll have to upgrade to .43 again and then capture the logs after the guest
panics... i'm guessing i only need the data from the HOST??

[Bug 1776592] Re: error: snapshot dump failed

2018-06-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.17 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1776679] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when dragging files into a subfolder

2018-06-13 Thread Franck
Public bug reported:

Nautilus is very unstable when moving files around.
It's quite easy to make it crash, or at least lose any coherent behaviour:

1) create this file structure

main_dir / dir1 / dir2
main_dir / file1
main_dir / file2

2) select file1 and file2, and drag them onto dir1 (nautilus goes into
dir1) then dir2.

3) nautilus is lost : files are not copied. Placeholders don't
disappear. Eventually, nautilus will crash after playing with these
files for a while.

[Bug 1775743] Re: [regression] Cosmic daily images 20180606-11 install but boots only to grub prompt on EFI systems

2018-06-13 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
For now I'm just writing down some of my random thoughts, but looking at
Daniel's diff between the working image and non-working, I don't see
anything straightforward that could have caused it. That being said,
Dimitri had a good idea that one of the livecd-rootfs changes could have
caused it. I now see this which might be somehow related?

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/2.528

Time-wise it could fit, as the package - even though uploaded on the
28th of May, it actually only migrated from cosmic-proposed to cosmic on
the 5th of June (our images are built without -proposed enabled). Need
to look into the change itself, but it does deal with grub somehow.

[Bug 1776686] [NEW] missing accountsservice.pc ?

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

According to apt, the following are installed:

[Bug 1766186] Please test proposed package

2018-06-13 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Dmitrii, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apache2 into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/2.4.18-2ubuntu3.9 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

"sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php7.2" works just fine on a fresh bionic

Enabling module mpm_prefork.

[Bug 1776696] [NEW] sensible default NIC for x86? (virtio, not e1000)

2018-06-13 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Booting an image that uses linux-kvm from the Ubuntu archive fails to
find a network when using a minimal qemu commandline:

kvm -m 256 -net nic -net user,id=user.0,hostfwd=tcp::-:22 -drive
file=boot-disk.img,if=virtio -drive file=seed.iso,if=virtio,media=cdrom

This fails because:

   -net nic[,vlan=n][,macaddr=mac][,model=type]
   [,name=name][,addr=addr][,vectors=v]
[...] The NIC is an e1000 by default on the PC target.

e1000 is a sensible least-common-denominator driver for use on a generic
hypervisor, because it's old and simple and has maximum compatibility
with a range of possible guest OSes.

But it's clearly inferior to virtio in every other way, and I don't
think we want to enable the e1000 in the linux-kvm build - I think we
want people to configure their VMs to use virtio instead of e1000, which
is the default in various frontends to qemu. I think anyone who is
configuring a kvm instance for running Linux as a guest, and uses e1000
instead of virtio, has it misconfigured.

Would it therefore make sense at this point in time to change the
default NIC driver for qemu from e1000 to virtio?

[Bug 1773139] Re: the grub did not install

2018-06-13 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios
mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition
to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use
entire disk" guided install option.

I can confirm that I have the exact same problem in fresh install of
ubuntu 18.04 today. Intel graphics here. Very annoying as this pops up
just as I decided to upgrade after a period of testing ( where I never
noticed this problem.)

Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios
mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition
to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use

[Bug 1776723] [NEW] snapdragon: wcn36xx connection error

2018-06-13 Thread Ondrej Kubik
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
snap cross building is broken and snap package can only build natively
additionally snapcraft.yaml is using deprecated scriptlet syntax for
install overrides
this syntax has been deprecated by snapcraft and should be replaced with
new one to future proof builds

Step to reproduce:
 - cross build with snapcraft on x86_64 host by calling: snapcraft
--targer-arch=arm64

Expected result:
 snap package builds without warnings

Actual result:
 build fails

TEST CASE:
 - cross build with snapcraft on x86_64 host by calling: snapcraft
--targer-arch=arm64
 - build should complete without errors and snapcraft warnings

[Bug 1776724] [NEW] NetBeans crashes on startup

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
Public bug reported:

When I load NetBeans (whether via the GUI or from a command line), the
splash screen appears and loads as far as "Turning on modules..."
(usually; very occasionally it gets stuck at "Reading module storage..."
instead). The splash screen then freezes for approximately 11-12 seconds
and then the entire program exits. Expected behaviour is that when I
load NetBeans, the loading process finishes and then the application's
main interface opens, without the process exiting.

I have two JREs installed, /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-
amd64/jre/bin/java and /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java. The
same behaviour of the splash screen occurs regardless of which JRE is
pointed at via "/usr/bin/java".

I also have two versions of javac installed, /usr/lib/jvm/java-8
-openjdk-amd64/bin/javac and /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-
amd64/bin/javac. The choice of javac that "/usr/bin/javac" points to
does influence the results. I suspect that the difference is immaterial
but am mentioning it just in case:

* When using the Java 8 version of javac, no message is printed when NetBeans
exits this way; it simply exits to the command prompt (or the desktop if loaded
via the GUI) without printing anything. The exit status is 2.
* When using the "java-11-openjdk-amd64" version of javac (which claims to be
"javac 10.0.1" in its version info; thus I'm not clear on whether this is Java
10 or Java 11), the following messages are printed on standard output/error,
before it exits with exit status 2 (I suspect these are unrelated to the crash,
but including them just in case):
{{{
WARNING: An illegal reflective access operation has occurred
WARNING: Illegal reflective access by org.netbeans.ProxyURLStreamHandlerFactory
(file:/usr/share/netbeans/platform18/lib/boot.jar) to field java.net.URL.handler
WARNING: Please consider reporting this to the maintainers of
org.netbeans.ProxyURLStreamHandlerFactory
WARNING: Use --illegal-access=warn to enable warnings of further illegal
reflective access operations
WARNING: All illegal access operations will be denied in a future release
}}}

In an attempt to get more information about where the crash is
occurring, I ran NetBeans with -J-verbose (thus causing the JVM to
output which classes are loaded, perhaps indicating how far it got with
initialisation before the crash); the resulting file is attached as
netbeans-J-verbose.txt. Under this configuration, it consistently
crashes almost immediately after loading sun.awt.X11.XSystemTrayPeer.
(I've been testing with the Java 8 versions of java and javac.) This
might or might not be a useful lead.

Are there any tests that might give more useful information than the
limited information I have here?

This behaviour started immediately after an upgrade from Artful to
Bionic. I'm running Cinnamon as my desktop.

[Bug 1764645] Re: Bluetooth not working

2018-06-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
SRU request submitted:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2018-June/093317.html

** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification ==
+ A regression was discovered in Bionic. The regression was introduced by
+ mainline commit f44cb4b19ed4, which then made it's way into Bionic in
+ 4.15.0-14 as commit c91729972ac6 via stable updates.
+
+ This regression is fixed by mainline commit 803cdb8ce584. Commit
+ 803cdb8ce584 was also cc'd to stable. However, it has not landed in
+ upstream stable 4.15 or Bionic.

+
+ == Fix ==
+ 803cdb8ce584 ("Bluetooth: btusb: Apply QCA Rome patches for some ATH3012

+
+

+ Low. This fix has also been cc'd to upstream stable, so it has had
+ additonal upstream review.
+
+ == Test Case ==
+ A test kernel was built with this patch and tested by the original bug
reporter.
+ The bug reporter states the test kernel resolved the bug.

uevents added to the kernel in
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=1455cf8dbfd06aa7651dcfccbadb7a093944ca65

+ACTION!="add", GOTO="hid2hci_end"

Bluetooth now works with kernels above and below 4.14.

Step to reproduce:
 - Config device to connect to wifi AP
 - ssh into device and ping the 8.8.8.8

expected result: Wifi connection can continue ping to target ip over 2 hours
actual result: wifi disconnected/reconnected in about 5~10 mins, can not obtain
ip address sometimes and no ip address after reboot, the failed rate are 1/5
(reboot to get ip address)

TEST CASE:
 - Config device to connect to wifi AP
 - ssh into device and ping the 8.8.8.8
 connections should not break

2018-06-13 Thread Tyler Hicks
I want to point out that the two kernel panics that were posted are from
two different guest kernel versions:

  3.32.0-151-generic
  3.32.0-32-generic

That may indicate that the offending bug is in the host kernel and/or
QEMU.

@wkitty42 yes, only the logs from the host are needed.

+ iperf calculates the sum of all bytes transferred and prints this sum like
'Sum: 100Mbytes'. For example if total data transferred was (simplified)
100,000,000 Bytes, iperf would print Sum: 100 Mbytes. The suffix Mbytes is
stored in a static array and it uses the number of time it had to divide the
sum by 1000 to determine the index to that array. iperf only accounted for Sums
up to GBytes, causing it to segfault on Sums of +TBytes. Currently the patch
extends this array to Peta Bytes, but you will segfault again if the sum is in
the order of Exabyte or larger. This might be achievable by using 100G
connections between server-client (Mellanox 100G nic & switch) and running
iperf at max throughput for a long long long periods of time.

[Bug 1776726] [NEW] no connection after boot with match statement

2018-06-13 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

Hi,

when I use netplan with a match statement, my network is not fired up
after reboot. I have to manually run "netplan apply" and than the
interfaces are ready.

root@host:~# cat /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# For more information, see netplan(5).
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd

  ethernets:
enp1s0:
  match:
macaddress: 00:22:4d:b1:b6:ac
  set-name: lan1
  wakeonlan: true
  dhcp4: no
  dhcp6: no
enp2s0:
  match:
macaddress: 00:22:4d:b1:b6:a8
  set-name: lan2
  dhcp4: no
  dhcp6: no
  optional: true
ovpn0:

  bridges:
br0:
  interfaces: [enp1s0]
  dhcp4: true
  dhcp6: true
  parameters:
stp: false
forward-delay: 5

The funny thing is, when I not use netplan to rename the interfaces (so
I commend out match, macaddress and set-name) the network lives after a
reboot.

Any way I can debug this problem?

[Bug 1716517] Re: [arm64/ppc64le] load ipmi_ssif/ipmi_powernv instead of ipmi_si

2018-06-13 Thread Manoj Iyer
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
openipmi service fails to start on arm64/ppc64le servers because
ipmi_ssif/ipmi_powernv is not loaded, and ipmi_si is loaded instead.

  [Test]
  sudo apt install openipmi
  sudo service openipmi status

  [Fix]
ARM64 servers use ipmi_ssif instead of ipmi_si. Load ipmi_ssif instead.
  PPC64EL servers use ipmi_powernv instead of ipmi_si. Load ipmi_powernv
instead.

  [Regression Potential]
- None.
+ ipmitool tries to load ipmi_si for any given architecture. Thus fails to init
on ARM and Power architecture. The patch adds logic for ipmitool to load
ipmi_ssif or ipmi_powernv for ARM and Power architecture. You might see a
regression on architectures that we still do not have official support for.

As result, I’m unable to distribute an ubuntu independent static
executable (or rather distribution independent at all
https://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/q/50597/2341)

The problem above is rather an xyz one. As far I know, Qt4 as well as Qt5 are
the only dev package in ubuntu where a version suitable for static linking
whereas this is as simple as passing -static to configure if building inside
the correct environment (which I added to debian/rules). This concerns all
architectures, and not only those in third party ports.

If you refuse to fix it for Qt4, please fix it for Qt5 !

Finally I resolved problem with booting using boot-repair.
Error in booting disappeared but after that installation was still incomplete.
Any application using Qt5 have not started. It took me a lot of time to resolve

Is it be better when the installation of Grub was at the begging of
installation or at very end?
Why boot-repair logic ins't available during installation process?

[Bug 1772476] Re: suddenly stopped installing saying some cannot be installed....quick correction would be appreciated

2018-06-13 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that this
could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1773006] Re: Grub2 cannot be installed ubuntu 18.04lts hp probook

2018-06-13 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios
mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition
to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use
entire disk" guided install option.

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid
