[Bug 1800205] Re: Distro upgrade failed with Could not calculate the upgrade
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The error that you are a reporting is a conflict between packages from the official Ubuntu archive and packages from a PPA. To resolve this situation please deactivate PPAs using the tool 'ppa-purge' which is provided by the ppa-purge package. Then try performing the release upgrade again. Thanks in advance! ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Tags added: ppa-conflict -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800205 Title: Distro upgrade failed with Could not calculate the upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1800205/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1799736] Re: Restore the ability to produce core16 images
** Description changed: [Impact] Ubuntu Core is an all-snap Ubuntu variant that we are building through cdimage. In the past there was only one core series, 16, and all the images we were building were based on that series. Thanks to that all the support for building ubuntu-core images in livecd-rootfs through ubuntu-image was only needed in later series, as all were build using devel. Currently we have two different ubuntu-core image sets based of different bases: core16 and core18 images. As a convention, we have decided that cdimage (and or other components) will be building ubuntu- core images based of the suite that the build is being run for. Since core16 is based on xenial and core18 on bionic, we have decided the following scheme: * Suite: xenial -> ubuntu-core 16 image * Suite: bionic or later -> ubuntu-core 18 image For this to work, we need to have all the needed changes in xenial and bionic. livecd-rootfs on xenial is missing all the ubuntu-image build- enablement changes, so these need to be backported. Besides that, both xenial and bionic need to get backports of the per-distro-series core- series selection. Without these fixes in xenial, no ubuntu-core 16 images can be built anymore. This is needed in case we'd have need for any security- vulnerability fix image re-releases. [Test Case] For xenial: * On a xenial system install latest xenial-proposed livecd-rootfs * Create a temporary directory and cd into it * Copy the /usr/share/livecd-rootfs/live-build/auto directory into the current directory * sudo PROJECT=ubuntu-core SUITE=xenial ARCH=amd64 PROPOSED=0 IMAGEFORMAT="ubuntu-image" lb config -> Make sure that the configured model assertion is for core16 * sudo PROJECT=ubuntu-core SUITE=xenial ARCH=amd64 PROPOSED=0 IMAGEFORMAT="ubuntu-image" lb build -> Make sure the build runs and finishes correctly * Boot test the newly created image with kvm -> Make sure the image is still bootable Also, since we are basically starting to use ubuntu-image with this xenial upload of livecd-rootfs (which was in universe for this series), we need to make sure the package is still installable with just main enabled. - * On a clean chroot (without livecd-rootfs or any of its dependencies installed) - * Modify sources.list to only have main enabled - * sudo apt update - * sudo apt install livecd-rootf --> Make sure the package and its dependencies install correctly + * On a clean chroot (without livecd-rootfs or any of its dependencies installed) + * Modify sources.list to only have main enabled + * sudo apt update + * sudo apt install livecd-rootfs + -> Make sure the package and its dependencies install correctly [Regression Potential] As part of the backport only new code is added - code that is executed in certain code paths only. Most regressions might appear in the ubuntu- core image generation, which was not available for xenial. But in case the code has been added in the wrong way, potentially this might result in livecd-rootfs not being able to generate proper classic images anymore. A run of lb config and lb build for a non ubuntu-image project is recommended. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799736 Title: Restore the ability to produce core16 images To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/1799736/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

See this (very similar) bugreport for reference: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk2-engines-murrine/+bug/1598316 As murrine is unmaintained and the weather plugin has already been ported to Gtk+3 I would let this one fade out - it will be gone with Xubuntu 19.04 most likely. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517938 Title: Scrollbox text shadow in wrong orientation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/greybird-gtk-theme/+bug/1517938/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Then I managed to reproduce it and found this syslog message is NOT appearing, meaning drop_privileges() isn't being called. I then searched /var/log/auth.log and discovered that when this issue is present pam_kwallet is failing to access the user's pam_kwallet sockets: lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: pam_sm_open_session lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: final socket path: /run/user/1000/kwallet.socket lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet-kwalletd: Couldn't listen in socket lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: Impossible to write walletKey to walletPipe lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: pam_sm_open_session lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: final socket path: /run/user/1000/kwallet5.socket lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5-kwalletd: Couldn't listen in socket lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: Impossible to write walletKey to walletPipe But then, after several "systemctl restart lightdm" where these failures didn't occur and the groups still weren't being set I stopped lightdm and switched to a console log-in. That suffered the same problem; I used "systemctl status" and saw that despite stopping the GUI session there was still a user@1000.service with several of the GUI user services still running, one of which was named "(sd-pam)" - which I supposed was systemd related. I did "systemctl stop user@1000.service" and then killed the current tmux/login session with "tmux kill-session -t 3" (3 being the remaining tmux session). Upon log-in to the console the supplementary groups are set. Returning to "sd-pam" I found the following helpful explanation: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/213334/why-add-parentheses- around-a-process-name#278876 * (sd-pam) is the special case If we spawn a unit with a non-empty 'PAMName=', we fork off a child-process inside the unit, known as '(sd-pam)', which watches the session. It waits for the main-process to exit and then finishes it via pam_close_session(3). The service /lib/systemd/system/user@.service template sets PAMName =systemd-user and launches "systemd --user" in the user slice. In my duplicate report Bug #1784964 I theorised originally that a recent systemd update was responsible. Based on my debugging so far with pam_kwallet the two may be interacting somehow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781418 Title: User not being initialized correctly on login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1781418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1800238] [NEW] TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18
Public bug reported: Dear developer(s), I used a vdr-installation on Debian testing, before. Switched over to Ubuntu since the release of cosmic because of problems with GPU/steam under Debian. Now, I have problems to configure vdr because my TV stick doesn't seem to work with kernel 4.18. This is what I did: Installed Ubuntu, upgraded via aptitude to the latest packages, got the firmware "dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw" and "dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw" (as it was recommended by *I guess it was* openelec.org and the modinfo output of si2168 and si2157), tried w_scan and failed (w_scan *can* find some signals but failes in getting the channels). That looks like this, f.e.: […} Scanning DVB-T2... 474000: (time: 01:38.796) 482000: (time: 01:43.155) 49: (time: 01:45.163) signal ok:QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0) Info: no data from PAT after 2 seconds deleting (QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0)) […] Now, I tried an older kernel - 4.15, because it's still in the cosmics' repository and tried w_scan again: Success, although the TV-Stick doesn't find all the channels I found with Debian Testing. So, maybe there's a regression in the latest kernel regarding the TV- Stick-driver or there is another firmware which will work better with 4.18…? Would be glad if someone could help to work that out… Greets! [Bug 545778] Re: xul-ext-lightning is only available in English
So, in other words, does it mean for non-english Ubuntu users that Lightning from canonical's repo will be broken forever ? But. What will happen on next official TB+Lightning release ? [Bug 1800254] Re: packet socket panic in Trusty 3.13.0-157 and later

[Bug 1800254] [NEW] packet socket panic in Trusty 3.13.0-157 and later
Public bug reported: SRU Justification: Due to changes added as part of c108ac876c02 ("packet: hold bind lock when rebinding to fanout hook"), it is possible for fanout_add to add a packet_type handler via dev_add_pack and then kfree the memory backing the packet_type. This corrupts the ptype_all list, causing the system to panic when network packet processing next traverses ptype_all. The erroneous path is taken when a PACKET_FANOUT setsockopt is performed on a packet socket that is bound to an interface that is administratively down. This is not due to any flaw of c108ac876c02, but rather than the packet socket code base differs subtly in 3.13 as compared to 4.4. This affects only the Trusty 3.13 kernel series, starting with 3.13.0-157. Fix: The remedy for this is to backport additional changes in the management of the dev_add_pack calls from 4.4. This moves the dev_add_pack and dev_remove_pack calls from fanout_add and _release into __fanout_link and _unlink. Testcase: The issue can be reproduced reliably by (a) creating an AF_PACKET socket, binding it to an interface that is administratively down, and then (c) attempting to set the PACKET_FANOUT sockopt. The setsockopt call will fail, but will corrupt ptype_all in the kernel. Subsequent network traffic will induce a panic when evaulating the corrupted ptype_all entry. A test program is attached. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800254 Title: packet socket panic in Trusty 3.13.0-157 and later To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1800254/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1800251] Re: Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5
The way you installed gimp the first time (using the software center) likely attempted to install the snap version, but may not have been complete when you tried running it. Whatever the reason, since snaps are distribution-agnostic and are not part of Ubuntu, this bug is invalid. To report an issue with this particular snap, go to https://github.com/snapcrafters/gimp/issues. ** Changed in: gimp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800251 Title: Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1800251/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So I became somewhat frustrated by this issue and used new installation media to completely reinstall ubuntu 18.04, removing the old partition and starting again from scratch. I installed steam as soon as the re-installation process had been completed, and downloaded/played Kerbal Space Program. I had exactly the same problem as before, the screen cutting out minutes into the game. On Wed, 24 Oct 2018 at 13:40, Daniel van Vugt wrote: > Thanks.
