2019-05-16 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v5.1-2 kernel[1].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1829373] [NEW] Outdated description says GTK2

2019-05-16 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

The package's (and some of the subpackages') description says:

"It is using only the GTK2 toolkit and therefore you need only the GTK2
runtime libraries to run Geany."

Since Bionic it's been compiled against GTK3, and accordingly, depends
on libgtk-3-0.

Please update the description, thanks!

[Bug 1828230] Re: FTBFS due to too new golang-goprotobuf-dev

2019-05-16 Thread Tiit Pikma
Thank you for the input, Łukasz. I agree and went with the second
approach.

After adding the wrappers I found a second issue which caused the build
to fail. This was fixed by pulling the upstream patch from
https://github.com/grpc/grpc-
go/commit/82e9f61ddde02833789fdca2123b576151db8654.

With the two patches the package built successfully on disco and the
simple test case mentioned in the bug description also passed.

I will attach a debdiff based on 1.6.0-3ubuntu0.19.04.1 and update the
bug description to include a [Regression Potential] section.

[Bug 1829374] [NEW] On slow network connections, users authenticated by LDAP are not assigned to groups

2019-05-16 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

We have be struggling with intermittent problems with LDAP on users'
desktop Ubuntu PCs. When they log in, they are often not added to any
groups apart from their matching user group, e.g. "john" would only be
assigned to the "john" group but should also be in "adm". We enabled
logging in nslcd.conf and observed that user group data was being
received, it just wasn't being used.

We have separately discovered that those PCs were only connecting to the
local network at 100MBits due to a cable problem. This issue has been
resolved and now that the PCs connect at 1000MBits, the LDAP groups
problem has gone away.

I believe there is a race condition bug when user sessions are created.

[Bug 1829375] [NEW] Drop libvte9 suggestion

2019-05-16 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

Geany recommends to install libvte9.

Since Bionic, Geany has been compiled against GTK3. libvte9 uses GTK2.
Hence I'm pretty sure geany cannot make any use of it.

Please remove this outdated suggestion, or replace by the GTK3 based
libvte-2.91-0 if geany can use this latter one (which I'm not sure
about). Thanks!

[Bug 1829377] [NEW] Remove this package

2019-05-16 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

Please remove the ancient GTK2-based vte aka. libvte9{,-common} from
Eoan.

Upstream version has been unmaintained for about 8 years, development
continued in the GTK3 branch (vte2.91 aka. libvte-2.91-0).

Geany is the only package referring to it, and it also does incorrectly
since it already uses GTK3, see bug 1829375.

+$ sudo chmod +x /etc/openvpn/scripts/test.sh
+ * Start the server service and run journalctl -f
+ And here is the important part for this sub-bug of bug 1787208.
+ To use the service files you'd not run openvpn@server which would be
+ the default Debian/Ubuntu templated service files.
+ Instead you'd use `systemctl restart openvpn-server@server`
+ Mind the extra -server
+ * Let the client connect (you will see the denies on the server)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * It adds one allowed capability (a rather safe one btw) to the service
+of openvpn. There should be no regression risk breaking functional
+setups.
+If anything I'd have security concerns, but since it was this way in
+Xenial and already is that way on "the other" set of .service files
+that should not matter.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * This was in Xenial, picked by upstream for their own .deb package but
+not integrated in their actual repository. Debian by aligning with
+upstream dropped it and we followed. This time we made sure it gets
+upstream and therefore hopefully should not reoccur again
+ * This was already fixed in bug 1787208 , but the package has two sets of
+.service files and this change fixes the one that still is affected.
+
+ ---
+
For a while openvpn is haunted by having two sets of services a bunch
from upstream and pair from the debian packaging.

Every now and then changes fix one but miss the other.

In this case the fix for bug 1787208 was only applied to the former
openvpn@.service (Debian packaging) but not the latter openvpn-
  server@.service (service files from upstream).

Please correct this in the same releases as the older bug.

[Bug 1829378] [NEW] Kernel 4.15.0-50 wont boot as Xen-DomU with PVH

2019-05-16 Thread Jan Kellermann
Public bug reported:

After upgrading HWE-16.04-kernel from 4.15.0-48 to 4.15.0-50 the kernel crashes
while booting as PVH-Guest with Xen 4.12 (booting as PV works).
Kernel 4.15.0-48 and prior did boot without any problems as PVH.

We have the same problem for Ubuntu 18.04 with Kernel 4.15.0-50. Ubunutu
18.04 with HWE-Kernel 4.18.0-20 boots without problems as PVH-DomU.

[Bug 1828749] Re: ifconfig dummy0 : Device not found

2019-05-16 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for the additional information. I think this report is now
complete, and I think I understand exactly what you mean and how you are
affected.

Unfortunately the use cases you have presented don't change my opinion
that this is an unusual end-user configuration that is unlikely to
affect the majority of Ubuntu users. Therefore I don't intend to
prioritise working on it and don't expect other developers to volunteer
their time to do so.

My opinion will of course change if it turns out that there is some
other use case that is likely to impact a wider range of Ubuntu users.

Volunteers to investigate this problem deeper are welcome. Please do
continue to use this bug to coordinate any efforts.

marking 'invalid' for newer qemu; this is fixed in a different way in
newer qemu but the change is too large to backport; the patches for

see bug 1823458

additionally, the regression from the last fix is in bug 1829245.

the change is in code where this still has the regression potential of

[Bug 1728241] Re: stjerm project is abandoned(unmaintained) upstream -- please remove from archives

2019-05-16 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Thanks guys for having addressed this removal! I just came here to
report the same request.

> What bugs, specifically, do you believe justify this package's removal
from the archive?

Pretty much the entire set of bugs that have been fixed in VTE in the
last 8 years :-) including potential data leakage by writing the
scrollback data unencrytped to disk.

> it has no obsolete library dependencies

It uses an ancient version of VTE which I just asked to get removed in
bug 1829377.

There are about a dozen VTE-based emulators shipped by Ubuntu, IMO it's
already too much. I see no point in carrying one that couldn't catch up
with API changes for 8 years.

I'm just commenting to confirm that you made the right choice by
removing stjerm, thanks again!

[Bug 1828194] Re: disapora-installer not installable on Disco

2019-05-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I have looked into that, but found no "easy" clou how to resolve this.
It is the same on Eoan btw, so it just generally faily on PPC64 it seems.

Given that it is universe-only I'm not sure we will do much more for it.

But please proceed to fix it in Disco as much as we can do for now.

#1 The problem with e2fsprogs - it does not include only tools for
managing ext* filesystems, it also includes chattr and lsattr.

#3 We can't switch back from dash to bash, as we clearly have some
dashims in various scripts that don't work in bash; and to get rid of
bash, you'd have to remove scripts explicitly using it.

[Bug 1828230] Re: FTBFS due to too new golang-goprotobuf-dev

2019-05-16 Thread Tiit Pikma
** Description changed:

Disco updated golang-goprotobuf-dev to version 1.2.0-1. The protoc-gen-
go binary included with it generates grpc code that requires
  google.golang.org/grpc version 1.8.0 or newer.

Disco and eoan contain golang-google-grpc-dev version 1.6.0-3. Since the
source includes code that is regenerated during building it fails to
  build from source.

(This also means that any developers using golang-goprotobuf-dev and
golang-google-grpc-dev from disco or eoan are unable to build their
generated code, but fixing the FTBFS also fixes their problems.)

As a little background explanation, google.golang.org/grpc introduced
two new API methods in 1.8.0: ClientConn.Invoke and
  ClientConn.NewStream, deprecating grpc.Invoke and grpc.NewClientStream,
  respectively: https://github.com/grpc/grpc-
  go/commit/a5986a5c88227370a9c0a82e5277167229c034cd

github.com/golang/protobuf dropped use of the deprecated functions in
generated grpc code in favor of the new ones in 1.2.0:

https://github.com/golang/protobuf/commit/7c4add53b497798e7fd7b204f28e41ab409bdbb7

+ Additionally, github.com/golang/protobuf disallows use of unkeyed struct
+ literals since version 1.1.0:
+
https://github.com/golang/protobuf/commit/8cc9e46429bfb16289d40d30b2ee3f4923b47345
+ #diff-8c603013608023320d5242916c4ea03bR1973. This causes some examples
+ in this package to fail to compile. This was fixed upstream in version
+ 1.10.0: https://github.com/grpc/grpc-
+ go/commit/82e9f61ddde02833789fdca2123b576151db8654
+
+ The attached debdiff fixes the first issue by adding wrapper functions
+ which match the signature of the new API and call the old API
+ internally. The second issue is fixed by pulling the upstream patch to
+ remove use of unkeyed struct literals.
+
  [Test Case]

golang-google-grpc-dev fails to build from source on disco and eoan. See
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-google-
  grpc/1.6.0-3ubuntu0.19.04.1/+build/16729837 (although that build
included a proposed patch, the same failure occurs without it).

  An alternative, minimal test case:
  1. sudo apt install golang-google-grpc-dev
  2. Copy simple.proto from the bug attachments to an empty directory.
  3. protoc simple.proto --go_out=plugins=grpc:.
  4. GOPATH=/usr/share/gocode/ go build simple.pb.go

  Expected output:
  Nothing

  Actual output:
  # command-line-arguments
  ./simple.pb.go:86:13: c.cc.Invoke undefined (type *grpc.ClientConn has no
field or method Invoke)
  ./simple.pb.go:94:21: c.cc.NewStream undefined (type *grpc.ClientConn has no
field or method NewStream)

- Without updating golang-google-grpc-dev to at least version 1.8.0, I can
- see two possible workarounds.
+ [Regression Potential]

- The first is to apply a patch to golang-goprotobuf-dev that reverts
- 7c4add53b497798e7fd7b204f28e41ab409bdbb7.
+ The added wrapper functions emulate an API no yet available in 1.6.0 by
+ calling an older one internally. It is possible that this can result in
+ unexpected behavior when invoking the wrapper functions. However this
+ regression is not very likely, since the functionality behind the two
+ API-s is exactly the same even to this day: the deprecated API calls the
+ new one internally.

- The second is to patch golang-google-grpc-dev to include
- ClientConn.Invoke and ClientConn.NewStream wrapper functions that call
- the old API internally.
+ The second fix of using keyed struct literals has no regression
+ potential. It removes ambiguity by explicitly marking which value
+ should be assigned to which field and is required by new versions of
+ goprotobuf.

  Release: Ubuntu 19.04
  Release: Ubuntu 19.10 (development branch)
  Package: golang-google-grpc 1.6.0-3

[Bug 1826045] Re: Unsatisfiable recommended dependencies pacemaker >= 2.0, corosync >= 3.0

2019-05-16 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
** Description changed:

- The current version of pcs in disco is 0.10.x, which requires pacemaker
- >= 2.0 and corosync >=3.0, neither of which are available yet. Should
- the version be downgraded to 0.9.x until the other packages are updated?
+ [Impact]
+ pcs can't be used for pacemaker and corosync in Disco
+
+ [Description]
+ In Disco, it looks like pcs was updated to version 0.10 without an
accompanying update to pacemaker and corosync. From the pcs-0.10 changelog [0]:
+ - Pcs-0.10 removes support for CMAN, Corosync 1.x, Corosync 2.x and Pacemaker
1.x based clusters. For managing those clusters use pcs-0.9.x.
+
+ Looking at the current versions for corosync and pacemaker in Disco, we
+ can see that they are not supported by this pcs version:
+
+ $ rmadison -a amd64 corosync | grep disco
+ corosync | 2.4.4-3 | disco | amd64
+
+ $ rmadison -a amd64 pacemaker | grep disco
+ pacemaker | 1.1.18-2ubuntu1 | disco | amd64
+ pacemaker | 1.1.18-2ubuntu1.19.04.1 | disco-security | amd64
+ pacemaker | 1.1.18-2ubuntu1.19.04.1 | disco-updates | amd64
+
+ Instead of upgrading pacemaker and corosync, with the risk of
+ introducing lots of untested issues, we should consider rolling pcs back
+ to an already tested version such as 0.9.x.
+
+ [0] https://github.com/ClusterLabs/pcs/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md#0101---
+ 2018-11-23
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Try to install pacemaker and pcs at the same time in Disco:
+
+ root@disco:~# apt install pacemaker pcs
+ Reading package lists... Done
+ Building dependency tree
+ Reading state information... Done
+ Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
+ requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
+ distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
+ or been moved out of Incoming.
+ The following information may help to resolve the situation:
+
+ The following packages have unmet dependencies:
+ pcs : Breaks: pacemaker (< 2.0) but 1.1.18-2ubuntu1.19.04.1 is to be
installed
+Recommends: pacemaker (>= 2.0) but 1.1.18-2ubuntu1.19.04.1 is to be
installed
+ E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The regression potential should be low, as long as we correctly roll pcs back
to a previously tested version. Since corosync/pacemaker packages were not
updated, this shouldn't introduce any new regressions. We'll do diligent
testing with autopkgtest for any other problems.
+
+ # # # #
+
+ [Original Description]
+ The current version of pcs in disco is 0.10.x, which requires pacemaker >=
2.0 and corosync >=3.0, neither of which are available yet. Should the version
be downgraded to 0.9.x until the other packages are updated?

[Bug 1829366] Re: [SRU] Bugfix release 1.14.4

2019-05-16 Thread Iain Lane
** Description changed:

- We should update bionic with the (now quite old!) point release
+ [ Description ]
+
+ We should keep up with GStreamer's bugfix releases in the 1.14 series
+ that 18.04 shipped with.
+
+ [ QA and testing ]
+
+ Play a range of videos in Totem. Play a range of audio tracks in
+ Rhythmbox. Try to stream audio and/or video. Try to install a missing
+ codec.
+
+ In all cases, make sure that everything which worked before still works.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ If one of the fixes is bad then it might break video or audio playback,
+ or could crash any application that tries to use gstreamer.

[Bug 1824236] Re: supermin/liguestfs fails to configure network

2019-05-16 Thread Eric Desrochers
[sts-sponsor]

I have some concern about the patch being more or less suggested by
upstream, but never merged upstream. I see they previously merge a
workaround for Ubuntu, can you discuss with them and see if that can be
merged again upstream ? I'm trying to avoid to have to carry a patch in
Ubuntu for libguestfs forever because upstream didn't merge it.

As I read the code so far, the workaround does (and only needed in ubuntu FWIU):
touch /etc/fstab
rm -f /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved

but the workaround is applied to all, regardless of the Linux
distribution.

If we PR something upstream, would it be possible to suggest a separate
if statement which will detect if it's ubuntu and/or debian

What would you think of something like this:
-
++ # Workarounds for ubuntu/debian
++ ubuntu =
++ if test "$guestfs_network" = 1 and ubuntu = ; then
++touch /etc/fstab
++rm -f /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved
fi

+ if test "$guestfs_network" = 1; then
+ iface=$(ls -I all -I default -I lo /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf)
+-touch /etc/fstab # Workaround for Ubuntu.
--# Two workarounds for Ubuntu:
--touch /etc/fstab
--rm -f /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved
+ if dhclient --version >/dev/null 2>&1; then
+ dhclient $iface
+ else

I don't feel comfortable to sponsor this in Eoan, before further discussion
with upstream to merged the change.

[Bug 1828927] Re: RabbitVCS compare revisions in SVN doesn't work

2019-05-16 Thread Evgeny Erlihman
Just wanted to add more information on this. It does not look like the
root cause of this issue is the same as before.

It looks like when Meld is showing the diff, it shows the head revision
of the wanted file and the version from previous revision of the
repository, not the file. SO if the file was not modified in the
previous commit, it would show as identical.

It should be comparing head revision of the file with previous revision
of the file and not the previous commit.

I used same vesrion of rabbitvcs on 16.04, and it worked fine. The
problem started happening when i upgraded to 18.04.

[Bug 1829383] Re: Add Brotli and Zstd compression modules

2019-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Brotli was rejected for inclusion in Ubuntu NGINX after discussion with
the Security Team. This was discussed in
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+question/678209
There has been no movement in Security Team concerns or any effort to
fix a variant of BREACH that is still present in Brotli compression,
therefore Brotli remains rejected for inclusion under the same reasoning
that was provided back in January.

zstd has not been vetted yet. This requires Security team consultation
before it can be continued.

Per Bug Processing guidelines I am setting this bug as "New" and
"Wishlist" importance.

** Changed in: nginx (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Wishlist

** Summary changed:

- Add Brotli and Zstd compression modules
+ Add Zstd compression module

** Description changed:

These two modules are now pretty mainstream and should be available

  https://github.com/tokers/zstd-nginx-module
- https://github.com/google/ngx_brotli

[Bug 1828810] Re: no dane support

2019-05-16 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

This does sound like an interesting feature to have. For reference, the
changes between 4.90 and 4.92 can be seen here:
https://github.com/Exim/exim/blob/master/src/README.UPDATING

The SRU policy permits such an update to a stable release, but we will
have to balance the risk and the amount of work needed.

I'll accept the bug, and put it in our backlog, but we don't have an
estimate for this. Any help would be welcomed, of course. In particular,
filing out the SRU template
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template for this
bug. Having a good test case, and solid arguments for this update, will
go a long way.

I'll also mark this as fix released for cosmic, disco and eoan. I
couldn't find a trivial way to check if exim was built with dane
support, but ldd in the exim main binary seems good enough. It shows the
binary linked with libgnutls-dane on cosmic and later, but not on
bionic.

Does anyone know of a workaround to bring a window into the screen? I
can't believe there's no way to do that.

[Bug 1828678] Re: Nautilus window outside the screen, unreachable, after resuming from hibernation

2019-05-16 Thread teo1978
I was wrong about this:

> However, I have never, ever observed this with windows belonging to
any other application except Nautilus

I've just observed the issue with Terminal too.

So it's almost certainly nothing to do with Nautilus, unsurprisingly.

** Description changed:

I always work with an external display connected to my laptop.
The external display is selected as the only display, and the laptop's
built-in screen is switched off.

Often I hibernate, move the laptop to another place (e.g. from home to
the workplace and viceversa), connect a different external screen, and
  resume from hibernation.

When I do so, it often happens that, if I had one or more Nautilus windows
open before hibernation, one or more of them are partially or completely
outside the screen. When they are partially, they are moved way to the left,
and only the right-most part of the window is visible at the left of the
screen. In this case I can reach the window with the mouse cursor, click and
drag it to the right so it's completely within the screen.
But sometimes, the window is completely unreachable, as if it's completely
outside the screen (presumably to the left of it, since when it's reachable,
it's always to the left).

In these cases, there's NOTHING I can do to reach the window and gain
access to it. I can right-click on the Launcher icon of the window, but
that doesn't give me any way (none that is discoverable, at least) to
bring the "lost" window into the visible area of the screen.

This sounds mostly like a bug in Xorg or Compiz whatever the window
manager is. The fact that it is even POSSIBLE for a window to be moved
completely outside of the screen in such a way that you have no way to
get access to it, IS certainly a bug or design flaw in whatever piece of
software is responsible for managing windows. So is the fact that, when
that happens, there is no tool for gaining access to it.

- However, I have never, ever observed this with windows belonging to any
- other application except Nautilus. When I hibernate and resume, I
- usually have several windows open belonging to different applications:
- Thunderbird, Chrome, Filezilla, Gimp, and others, and often several
- terminal windows. Yet it has never, ever happened to me that one of them
- was completely or mostly outside of the screen as it happens with
- Nautilus. So there seems to be something specific to Nautilus. So it
- looks like Nautilus is doing something wrong, or failing to do something
- it's supposed to do, though the fact that the system even allows it to
- happen, means there's also a bug in the system (whether it's Xorg,
- Compiz, Unity or whatever).

-
- Note that this is a very critical issue, as not being able to access a window
means potentially lose work. Fortunately, being a file explorer (as opposed to
some other program where you may have unsaved changes to some document),
usually the damage is small. However, you may have carefully chosen a set of
folders that you have opened in tabs, and/or you may have carefully selected a
particular set of files in each tab; having to close the window means you have
to repeat the process of selecting those files and folders. That is just an
example of loss of work due to this bug.

So before wrongly assigning it low importance as you often do, think
  twice.

[Bug 1828927] Re: RabbitVCS compare revisions in SVN doesn't work

2019-05-16 Thread Doug Brown
The root cause of the issue is the same for the problem I'm seeing,
because applying the linked GitHub patch fixes my issue. I'm control-
clicking two different revisions and then right-clicking and choosing
Compare Revisions. In 16.04 (and in 18.04 with the patch applied) it
properly compares the two revisions. In 18.04 without the patch, it just
checks out the HEAD revision twice and says they're identical.
