[Bug 1871685] Re: vagrant spits out ruby deprecation warnings on every call

2020-04-24 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Some users are complaining about those warnings after Focal release, for
instance here:

https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/workarounds-for-applications-which-are-
broken-in-20-04lts/15474/5

I tried it myself and all those Ruby 2.7 related warning messages are
really annoying. IMO we should release a fix for this ASAP to not ruin
our users' experience.

In order to incorporate minimal changes I backported the two patches
from Debian to version 2.2.6 instead of merging the version 2.2.7. It
should allow the SRU team review it faster than a full merge.

Here is a MP for it containing more information:

https://code.launchpad.net/~lucaskanashiro/ubuntu/+source/vagrant/+git/vagrant/+merge/382953

I'll update the bug description, adding the SRU template.

[Bug 1874915] [NEW] krb5kdc[27833]: Couldn't open log file /var/log/krb5kdc.log: Read-only file system

2020-04-24 Thread Chris Moody
Public bug reported:

Hopefully this can trivially be corrected.

Seems the systemd service file for the kerberos portion of freeipa could
use a minor tweak.

When restarting the kerberos service, it (incorrectly) reports that the
default configured log file (/var/log/krb5kdc.log) is sending to a "read
only filesystem". This is a misleading error, since the /var/log
directory by default -IS- writeable, but systemd is in fact preventing
the daemon from writing. Why systemd can't inject itself
inappropriately and report that it's causing the trouble is another
conversation. ;) [not personally a systemd fan]

File:
=
/lib/systemd/system/krb5-kdc.service

Command:
=
service krb5-kdc restart

Error:
=
krb5kdc[27833]: Couldn't open log file /var/log/krb5kdc.log: Read-only file
system

Please make the following adjustment to the default systemd file.
=
13c13
< ReadWriteDirectories=-/var/tmp /tmp /var/lib/krb5kdc -/var/run /run
---
> ReadWriteDirectories=-/var/tmp /tmp /var/lib/krb5kdc -/var/run /run /var/log

Thank you for all the help and support. :)

Cheers,
-Chris

[Bug 1874916] [NEW] whatsapp doesn't recognize chromium snap user agent

2020-04-24 Thread Carlos Pita
Public bug reported:

At some time there was the issue of Whatsapp not recognizing the user
agent of Chromium, which was closed because it was the understanding
that the problem should be fixed by Whatsapp and not Ubuntu:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-
browser/+bug/1808853?comments=all

I agree with the rationale there, but later Whatsapp seems to indeed
have fixed that, at least according to Olivier Tilloy:

> It looks like whatsapp fixed the user agent detection for the chromium
ubuntu packages, this is now working fine. However it's still refusing
to work with the chromium snap package.

(see
https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/forum/#!msg/chromium-discuss/MbfH-OZGbLc/4JhhGlg-CgAJ)

So, since Canonical has reasons to promote the snap Chromium package as
the official Chromium package, which is announced as supported by
Ubuntu, it seems to me that the snap bug does belong here.

I'm reporting the problem for:
  * Chromium snap latest/stable 81.0.4044.122 2020-04-23
  * Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-04-24 Thread David Bridson
I'm experiencing the same problem on a fresh install of Ubuntu Mate
20.04 on a Dell XPS 13 9350.

Sound works correctly using the internal speakers. If you plug in analog
headphones to the 3.5mm jack, there is no sound from the headphones or
the internal speakers. All relevant options are unmuted in Sound
Settings. The Speaker Test exhibits the same behaviour.

Analog headphones worked correctly on this system under 18.04.

[Bug 1874702] Re: python crash during "do-release-upgrade -d"

2020-04-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read 'How to report bugs effectively'
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1811504] Re: scan with Laserjet MFP-M28 fails

I installed the LJ M28A with Ubuntu 18.04.3 provided HPLIP. When I
tried scanning, it asked me for additional plugins and I did install
them. Everything went fine, printing and scanning. I unfortunately
decided to remove the hplip from Ubuntu and use the latest HP one. Now I
can only scan Text, no color.

[Bug 1874922] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 official can't switch pages in "Show Applications"

2020-04-24 Thread Masaru Tsuchiyama
Public bug reported:

I tried to install Ubuntu 20.04 official on VMWare.
But I couldn't switch pages in "Show Applications".

1. create new machine on VWMARE
2. specify the path of ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso to CD/DVD(SATA) drive.
3. boot the virtual machine.
4. choose "Try Ubuntu".
5. choose "Show Applications" icon. (I attached the screenshot)
6. choose gray circle icon to switch pages. (I attached the screenshot)
7. But the page will not be switched.

The daily build around at Apr 17 of Ubuntu 20.04 works well.
(I removed the daily builds from that time, So I can't reconfirm the newer
daily build.
But I think I didn't experience such issue.)

I'll show these sha1sum of ISOs which I tried.

This feels like it'd also need systemd-style config options to allow
admins to say they don't want specific packaged configs, too.

This mechanism could be ideal for eg ec2-instance-connect, except the
current implementation, via:
/lib/systemd/system/ssh.service.d/ec2-instance-connect.conf
can be ignored via a symlink to /dev/null in
/etc/systemd/system/ssh.service.d/ec2-instance-connect.conf

Changing to sshd config snippets in /lib/ssh/sshd_config.d/ would now
require uninstalling the package entirely, which might also require
uninstalling meta-packages.

A simple 'include' mechanism without allowances for nulling out unwanted
configs is useful but probably not alone sufficient.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

The relevant journactl output (at least from what I can guess) follows,
I attached both full command outputs as txt files. It reconnects because
you have to change from no data transfer to file transfer in the android
settings, but I did the same in 18.04 and it worked there.

[Bug 1874914] Re: screen size too big / title bar on second screen

2020-04-24 Thread anderson.de...@gmail.com
Yes, my second screen (1920x1200) is rotated.

Bug #1874567 says the rotation doesn't work, that it stays in landscape.
My screen rotation does work correctly.

When using the nouveau drivers it never gets past the purple boot screen
(tho I can ssh in fine).

When I scroll to the right, the title bar lines up correctly to the
first screen. (Another pic attached.) Notice also the backgrounds
overlap.

[Bug 1874926] [NEW] Error upgrade to 20.04 from 18.04

2020-04-24 Thread Marvin Giron Fonseca
Public bug reported:

consulte «main.log» y «apt.log».

[Bug 1874927] [NEW] do-release-upgrade's upgradeable package check doesn't consider kept back packages

2020-04-24 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

I was upgrading a system from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS and had some
packages that were kept back and when I ran do-release-upgrade -d I was
told to install all available updates. However, there were no available
updates because some packages were kept back. This seems like a rare
scenario but the following check may need some improvement.

+ for pkg in upgradable:
+if 'Phased-Update-Percentage' in pkg.candidate.record:
+ # P-U-P does not exist if it is fully phased
+ continue
+else:
+ install_count += 1

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-24 Thread Dexuan Cui via ubuntu-bugs
Since Alt-SysRq-w gives nothing, I'm sure the long delay is not a
kernel/driver issue but a user space issue. It looks due to some reason
I just can not reproduce the long delay. :-(

In the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection window's "View" menu, there is
an item "Enhanced Session". In my Ubuntu 19.10 VM created by "Quick
Create...", the xrdp daemon/service is configured to automatically run
during the boot-up procedure; I think as soon as the xrdp daemon starts
to run, the "Enhanced Session" item becomes clickable/usable, and I can
click it to toggle between "Enhanced Session" mode (i.e. xrdp mode) and
the native Xorg GUI mode; when I'm in the xrdp mode, I click VM
Connection window's Action | Shut Down, then Start, and the VM will boot
up to the xrdp login screen in about 14 seconds; when I'm in the Xorg
mode, I click Shutdown then Start, the VM will boot up to the Xorg GUI
desktop in about 30 seconds. If I shut down the VM, close the VM
Connection window, and start the VM and open VM Connection window, I'll
be prompted by a small pop-up window to choose a resolution when (I
think) the xrdp daemon starts to run: 1) if I click the close icon of
the small window, I'll be in the Xorg GUI mode; if I accept the default
resolution (or change to a different resolution) and click "connect" in
the small window, I'll be in the xrdp mode. So all these work pretty
good for me.

Note: after I just created the 19.10 VM by "Quick Create..." and set up
the host name and user name/password stuff, I rebooted the VM and when
the VM booted up, I found the "Enhanced Session" was not
clickable/usable -- this looks like a bug -- while I still don't know
the root cause, it looks this can be resolved by manually adding the
line "initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic #This line is
added by Dexuan manually" into "/boot/grub/grub.cfg":

menuentry 'Ubuntu' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os
$menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-simple-55829715-0091-4b86-b060-1cb88f342faf' {
...
if [ "${initrdfail}" = 1 ]; then
  linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic
root=PARTUUID=43e99d31-1277-402c-a13b-6cc8fb93169b ro  quiet splash $vt_handoff
  initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic
else
  linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic
root=PARTUUID=43e99d31-1277-402c-a13b-6cc8fb93169b ro  quiet splash $vt_handoff
panic=-1
  initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic #This line is added
by Dexuan manually!!!
fi
initrdfail
}

With the addition of the line, it looks "GRUB_TIMEOUT=0" in "/etc/default/grub"
is always really applied every time I reboot the VM.
Without the line, it looks sometimes the grub timeout is 30 second and
sometimes it's 0 second.
BTW, I reported a bug for the missing initrd line a few weeks ago for a
different issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1870189.

I suggest you also manually add the line, then I guess you should be
able to reliably toggle between xrdp mode and Xorg mode.

Note: "/boot/grub/grub.cfg" is overwritten when update-grub is run by us
or some automatic-update daemon, so we may want to check if the line is
still there when we see something unexpected (i.e. unable to use xrdp
mode, or see a grub timeout of 30s). I hope Bug 1870189 will be fixed by
somebody ASAP...

It is not really used in the relationship file. So other OS may not be
using this so probably never validated the critical trips. Better to
disable.

[Bug 1874932] [NEW] Getting old buffer + header + correct response

2020-04-24 Thread Sjef Bosman

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN
That a correct response is sent back, see below.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
We have apache2 as a reverse proxy server, doing a lot of things: 4 Virtual
Hosts, several RewriteRules, SSL to a non-SSL internal (Domino) server, quite
some ProxyPass* lines, and a few Substitutes to fix links in returned HTML.

In 98% of all cases everything works, only, in 2% of the page requests
the browser gets the wrong response: it contains the homepage html, then
the header for the actual response, and then the correct response.

Here an extract of the middle part of the returned response, where two buffers
seem to be joined:
-
XSP.addOnLoad(function() {
XSP.attachEvent("view:_id1:_id2:_id3:_id9:_id10:5:_id26:_id28:_id30",

The output comes from one single line in the Firefox 75.0 Developer
Tools window, on the Network tab.

The same happens every now and then on a page that regularly refreshes
an image on the screen. Usually (98%) the response is correct, but
sometimes two responses are combined into one and then the browser
flips.

Needless to say maybe, but if I access the website directly, i.e. not
through the proxy server, there's no problem whatsoever, the response is
always correct.

[Bug 1874879] Re: startx fails on first run with "Cannot run in framebuffer mode"

2020-04-24 Thread Dan Kegel
BTW this worked fine on earlier versions of ubuntu, including 18.04 and
19.10.

(I'm perfectly happy to hear it's user error, and the login needs to
wait for something other than network-online.target, or that I did the
wait wrong. The wait didn't seem to be needed before. Also, I didn't
mention this, but adding 'sleep 10' before startx didn't seem to help.)

[Bug 1874933] [NEW] Performance workaround for Dell 7390 2-in-1 Ice Lake

2020-04-24 Thread Srinivas Pandruvada
Public bug reported:

As reported here:
https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/linux-graphics-x-org-drivers/intel-linux/1174225-dell-xps-7390-intel-ice-lake-performance-hit-hard-by-a-linux-kernel-regression?view=stream

This primarily impacts "Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)." as it switched to 5.4
kernel.
The 5.4 kernel added support for "Processor thermal device", for Ice Lake,
which will expose the power tables (via PPCC).

This system default "max RAPL long term power limit" is 15W. But this
power table is specifying as 9W. So thermald will limit power to 9W.

If dptfxtract is executed, then power limit will be higher than power up
value, but most of the users will use out of the box setup. So this need
a workaround.

This workaround will ignore any power limit less than the power up power
limit.

This is addressed in thermald 2.1 with two commits:
https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/commit/f7db434293387c965e8d9141608f855893740e3a
https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/commit/c3461690eafb7304bf59a39fb02955a5154b3861

I know 20.04 LTS uses 1.9.1. I can assist in backport if required.

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-24 Thread Dexuan Cui via ubuntu-bugs
I don't have much knowledge bout systemd, either :-) I just did a "man
systemd" and found the options of systemd. "man systemd" says that we
can use pass these kernel parameters to systemd:

systemd.service_watchdogs=true systemd.show_status=true
systemd.log_level=debug systemd.dsystemd.default_standard_output=kmsg
systemd.default_standard_error=kmsg

I tried these by adding them into /boot/grub/grub.cfg manually, at the end of
the line "linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic ...".
I also replaced "quiet splash $vt_handoff" with "ignore_loglevel". So I can get
more messages from systemd, but not so much as I expected. Not sure if this
would be helpful to troubleshoot the long delay issue for you, and I'm not even
sure if I enabled the systemd loggong completely correctly -- again, I'm not
really familiar with systemd. :-)

To stop/disble a systemd "service", I think we can use something like this
(taking the setvtrgb.service as an example):
  systemctl stop setvtrgb.service
  systemctl disable setvtrgb.service
  systemctl status setvtrgb.service

[Bug 1874934] [NEW] Xsane crashes when acquiring preview if bit depth is set to 16

2020-04-24 Thread whochismo
Public bug reported:

I noticed a series of random crashes when using Xsane. One of the few
that I was been able to reproduce, seems to be caused by using 16 bit
depth instead of 8, as configured in the "basic options" menu.

The crash is produced at the moment of acquiring an image preview. The
moment the scanner starts moving, xsane closes. Launching xsane from a
terminal does not provide any useful information during the crash.

I am using Ubuntu 20.04LTS, with a clean install. However, that bug was
already present in 18.04LTS

[Bug 1874935] [NEW] Xsane does not save resolution setting between sessions

2020-04-24 Thread whochismo
Public bug reported:

For some reason, xsane does not save the resolution setting between
sessions. By default it goes back to 100. All other settings in the same
panel are saved correctly.

Moreover, it shows two options regarding resolution: vertical and
horizontal resolution, with values that do not always match. Ideally,
just one box should work for both.

[Bug 1874343] Re: Thunar hangs for several seconds on first launch

2020-04-24 Thread Wowbagger
OK, I found the source of the problem - trash ibus files, some owned by
root, that was causing issues with Thunar's communications.

For others: If you see this, remove ~/.config/ibus, ~/.cache/ibus, and
~/.dbus and reboot.

Now, how those bogus files came into being... I have no idea.

[Bug 1874940] [NEW] /usr/share/distro-info/ubuntu.csv lacks release minor version

2020-04-24 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

for automatted tools of downloading the latest iso image for Ubuntu it
would be quite usefull and convenient, if the list in /usr/share/distro-
info/ubuntu.csv would contain the minor release number, e.g.

not just 18.04 for bionic beaver, but 18.04.4 (maybe .4 as a separate
column), because that's what's needed to find the URL of the iso image
straigth forward and not just by trial or parsing web pages.

[Bug 1874939] [NEW] ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-04-24 Thread Christian Huebner
Public bug reported:

Upon upgrading a Ceph node with do-release-upgrade from eoan to focal,
the OSD doesn't connect after the upgrade. I rolled back the change
(VBox snapshot) and tried again, same result. I also tried to hold back
the Ceph packages and upgrade after the fact, but again same result.

Epected behavior: OSD connects to cluster after upgrade.

Actual behavior: OSD log shows endlessly repeated
'tick_without_osd_lock' messages. OSD will stay down from perspective of
the cluster.

Extract from debug log of OSD:

[Bug 1874941] [NEW] lag and hangs

2020-04-24 Thread Jofen Kihlström
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading from ubuntu 18.04 I have not been able to stream video
from youtube without the video freezing for a second or two every 30
seconds. Also when filling out this form the text lag. This has not been
the case on this computer when using 18.04, 19.04 or 19.10.

This performance issue renders the computer hard to use for work and I
am almost completly certain that it is xorg or some other graphics
issue.

2020-04-24 Thread Sitao Wang

I am able to run the program without seg fault and just run the program

breakpoint (but not every possible breakpoint), and then run program,
seg fault will happen on some other line than the breakpoint after some
continues.

[Bug 1860926] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Systemd fails to configure bridged network

2020-04-24 Thread Jane Atkinson
The following has me wondering if this has partly to do with the
presence of containers, VMs and similar items.

I upgraded my router to 20.04 a few days before release. (Plain Ubuntu
command-line OS on a PC Engines APU1 board) That machine has a bridge
network comprising two ethernets and one wifi. I've had no problems with
it - it comes up nicely on boot. Whereas I have to use the crontab
workaround on my main PC which has a bridge for VMs.

I'm not clever enough to imagine why this might be the case, but I
thought it might be worth noting.

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-04-24 Thread Dan Hill
Eoan packages Nautilus, while Focal packages Octopus:
 ceph | 14.2.2-0ubuntu3 | eoan
 ceph | 14.2.4-0ubuntu0.19.10.2 | eoan-security
 ceph | 14.2.8-0ubuntu0.19.10.1 | eoan-updates
 ceph | 15.2.1-0ubuntu1 | focal
 ceph | 15.2.1-0ubuntu2 | focal-proposed

When upgrading your cluster, make sure to follow the Octopus upgrade
guidelines [0]. Specifically, the Mon and Mgr nodes must be upgraded and
their services restarted before upgrading OSD nodes.
