[Bug 1889541] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 not booting with NVidia proprietary drivers (follow-up from bug 1889377)

2020-07-31 Thread Mirko
Hi Daniel,
I run apport-collect 1889541 but I have removed nvidia drivers otherwise I
cannot login anymore (as we have discussed together in bug 1889377).

For what concerns the purple screen, please find attached a picture I've taken
from the web with the exact problem I'm getting.
My login process (usually lasting no more than 30 seconds) gets stuck on this
page forever (at least much longer than I'm keen to wait for - I left it in
this state also for one hour before restarting).

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1888685] Re: rsync fails after installing level 3.2.1

2020-07-31 Thread Paride Legovini
OK, so the directory being in /home is the culprit, I could reproduce
the issue and found where the problem is. At some point rsync added

  ProtectHome=on

option to its service file, /lib/systemd/system/rsync.service. This has been
reverted in upstream git at [1] as it's too restrictive. The fix landed in
rsync v3.2.2 which is already in Debian; Ubuntu will pick it up with the next
sync. In the meantime you can workaround the problem by manually disabling
ProtectHome.

Thanks again for reporting the issue and for providing all the details.

[Bug 1889556] Re: grub-install failure does not fail package upgrade (and does not roll back to matching modules)

2020-07-31 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
I have also attempted to verify xenial (using version
1.66.27+2.02_beta2-36ubuntu3.27), however grub-efi-
amd64-signed_1.66.27+2.02_beta2-36ubuntu3.27 still seems to be
unavailable in -proposed (http://archive.ubuntu.com).

I have manually downloaded it and tested from here [1], however I'll
postpone the verification until it's available.

[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic

2020-07-31 Thread Harry van Haaren (Intel)
Hey Folks,

Does the -proposed changes get automatically integrated to -updates
after a certain time has passed, or does this require somebody to take
action?

It would be great to have this update rolled out to 18.04 before OVS
2.14 is released in a week or two.

Regards, -Harry

That's actually good news then. If you can safely wipe the machine and
reinstall then it sounds like a fresh install might eliminate whatever
the cause of the problem is.

2020-07-31 Thread Mirko
I installed the OS 3 times in the last two weeks to get rid of the
nvidia problem without any success :-(

I was hoping to find a way to identify in the logs what's going wrong
because a fresh install won't solve the problem.

[Bug 1889509] Re: grub boot error : "symbol 'grub_calloc' not found

2020-07-31 Thread Peter Daplyn
Running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc" before reboot is not working for
me - prompts for some settings, but doesn't prompt for drives to
install. I'm running Ubunutu 18.04 on AWS EC2 T3 instance. Rebooting
after this still results in the issue.

Post-issue recovery as described by Marin works fine
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1889509/comments/16).

Could I run the grub-install *before* reboot to prevent getting into the
problem?
