[Bug 2056642] Re: drop down menu appears on another workspace

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This suggests the menu is an override-redirect X11 window, so perhaps
appearing on all workspaces is 'correct' and it is a bug in Firefox.

Please also try logging into a Wayland session.

[Bug 2030784] Re: Backport Intel's AVX512 patches on openssl 3.0

2024-03-10 Thread Bun K Tan
Hello @adrien-n,

I had Dan Zimmerman take a look at this issue and found a solution.
This is what he shared:

Steps to reproduce:
---
Get Source and apply patch:
git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl ubuntu_openssl
cd ubuntu_openssl
git checkout applied/ubuntu/devel
git apply 001-vaes_gcm_avx512.patch (See comment #11 for attachment)
This patch is essentially what is referred to as "[PATCH 2/2] AES-GCM enabled
with AVX512 vAES and vPCLMULQDQ."
Build OpenSSL
./config --prefix=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install
--openssldir=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install
make -j
make test
Note AES-GCM Test Failures

Steps to resolution:

Apply patch:
make clean
git apply 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch
make -j
make test
Note AES-GCM Tests Pass

Solution:
-
The solution to the failed test cases comes from this merged OpenSSL Pull
Request: Avoid having another copy of key schedule in PROV_GCM_CTX by t8m ·
Pull Request #22384 · openssl/openssl (github.com)
Direct application of this PR will fail due to the fact that the OpenSSL
doesn't support SM4_GCM in v3.0.13. So I made the edits by hand and created
the patch file 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch

** Patch added: "002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch"

[Bug 2056718] [NEW] net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op

2024-03-10 Thread William Tu
Public bug reported:

Intro:
==
When hit a kernel warning when using openvswitch kernel module. Digging into
the source code, we found it's due to the code snippet
if (WARN_ON(i.cmd >= family->resv_start_op &&
   (i.doit.validate || i.dumpit.validate)))
 return -EINVAL;

in the gene_validate_ops() in net/netlink/genetlink.c, introduced in
108880a07bab genetlink: add iterator for walking family ops
from buglink
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2053155

How to fix:
===
We need to cherry-pick the missing patch
Fixes: e4ba4554209f ("net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op")

Author: Jakub Kicinski

net: openvswitch: add missing .resv_start_op

I missed one of the families in OvS when annotating .resv_start_op.
This triggers the warning added in commit ce48ebdd5651 ("genetlink:
limit the use of validation workarounds to old ops").

[Bug 2056716] Re: To support AMD Adaptive Backlight Management (ABM) for power profiles daemon >= 2.0

2024-03-10 Thread You-Sheng Yang
SRU:
* https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2024-March/149487.html (noble)
*
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/gitea/kernel/noble-linux-unstable/src/branch/vicamo/bug-2056716-amdgpu-abm
(unstable, to create PR when base branch is synced)

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ power-profiles-daemon >= 2.0 now utilizes AMD GPU panel_power_savings
+ sysfs entry to set desired panel power saving level. Related kernel
+ fixes are to be released in v6.9.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Two linux-next committed fixes are required. The first one introduces
+ panel_power_savings sysfs entry itself, and the second one extends
+ abmlevel sysfs entry to allow an auto mode.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Check existence of panel_power_savings sysfs entry:
+
+$ cat /sys/class/drm/card0-eDP-1/amdgpu/panel_power_savings
+-1
+
+ 2. Remove power cable and switch between power profiles from Power
+ Management settings. The content of above panel_power_savings sysfs
+ entry should be updated correspondingly.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ While the abmlevel entry now has a different default value that allows
+ automatic power management, the behavior may differ from users'
+ expectation.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ power-profiles-daemon >= 0.20 is only available on Noble or later at
+ this moment, so only Noble/Unstable will be nominated for fix.
+
+ == original bug report ==

This looks like just bad UI design. The option to include the pointer

dialog). Please select that option in the screen recorder dialog before
starting the recording.

[Bug 2056669] Re: Restarting after install system hang

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We'll need to find out what is hung exactly. I know snapd has a bug just
like this at the moment.

Also the squares you can see are bug 2056526.

[Bug 2056669] Re: Restarting after install system hang

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since your log ends with:

Mar 10 14:11:30 corrado-n4-nn-0310 systemd[1]: run-snapd-ns-
firefox.mnt.mount: Unmounting timed out. Terminating.

we'll move it to snapd.

[Bug 2056652] Re: Display goes black after time out, even when switched off

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2024-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Next time this happens, please reboot and then run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here. Most likely it is bug 2056506.

[Bug 2056725] [NEW] virtualbox-hwe DKMS ADT test failed on F-aws ARM64 (DKMS failed to build)

2024-03-10 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Our ADT test for virtualbox-hwe DKMS failed on F-aws ARM64

Based on our hint database we can see this failure at least since
5.4.0-1072.77 from commit 9333a4a0 [1]

Test failed when trying to build the DKMS:
 Loading new virtualbox-guest-6.1.50 DKMS files...
 Building for 5.4.0-1120-aws
 Building initial module for 5.4.0-1120-aws
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.4.0-1120-aws (aarch64)
 Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/6.1.50/build/make.log for more
information.

A quick grep for error from that make.log shows it's failing with:
/var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/6.1.50/build/vboxguest/include/iprt/assertcompile.h:97:88:
 error: conflicting types for ‘RTASSERTVAR’
/var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/6.1.50/build/vboxguest/r0drv/linux/the-linux-kernel.h:189:11:
fatal error: asm/fpu/api.h: No such file or directory

Please find attachment for the complete make.log

The architecture for virtualbox-hwe listed on the project page are:
amd64 i386, I am not sure why this was triggered for ARM64 ADT.

Re: [Bug 2054887] Re: Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

2024-03-10 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I can reproduce the issue if I refresh instead of really reinstalling
the snap, so a bug in Snapd.

Please try

   snap remove chromium
   snap install --beta chromium

Does the amdgpu.ids error go away now?

If that still doesn't solve the graphical bugs and you have time, it
would also be very useful whether

   snap install --channel beta/internal-libdrm chromium

works.

[Bug 2054887] Re: Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

2024-03-10 Thread Nathan Teodosio
** Description changed:

+ Related: LP:2004532.

The chromium snap package has a bunch of graphical glitches that makes
the program unusable. This appears to be caused by the snap package
being unable to access the libdrm directory. Below is the output I get
when launching the program. I have confirmed I have libdrm installed and
the amdgpu.ids file is present on my system. Using a normal version of
Chromium (not a snap) works as expected so I believe there is an issue
  with the snap package.

[Bug 2004532] Re: Hardware acceleration broken for amdgpu/mesa in snap

2024-03-10 Thread Nathan Teodosio
For Chromium users:

Can you verify if either of

  snap remove chromium
  snap install --beta chromium

or

  snap remove chromium
  snap install --channel internal-libdrm chromium

fixes the issue?

Note: A refresh will *not* work for the first case, it really needs to
be removed and installed back (looks like there is a bug in Snapd).
