[Bug 2059845] [NEW] outdated Openbox config files exist in /usr/share in Lubuntu

2024-03-30 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
Public bug reported:

There is a menu.xml and a rc.xml in /usr/share/lubuntu/openbox:
https://git.lubuntu.me/Lubuntu/lubuntu-default-settings/src/branch/ubuntu/noble/src/usr/share/lubuntu/openbox

We already have these files in /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox:
https://git.lubuntu.me/Lubuntu/lubuntu-default-settings/src/branch/ubuntu/noble/src/etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox

The latter is part of $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, where as the former is part of
$XDG_DATA_DIRS. Of the two, Openbox only searches $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, so
these files are of little functional concern.

However, should a user add the directory to $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS or should
they copy it to $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME, this could create
all sorts of problems. Outside of the fact that it refers to old
vestiges of the LXDE Lubuntu (like lxsession-default), there is a
potential problem for shortcut conflicts and thus unexpected behavior.
We long ago moved most of the shortcuts out of the Openbox configuration
and into lxqt-globalkeys because of the potential for conflicts.

It looks like during the LXDE -> LXQt transition, we deprecated a lot of config
files, but apparently missed these:

[Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg

2024-03-30 Thread Egmont Koblinger
During the last barely more than 24 hours, at least 4 people have
reported/confirmed heavy latencies newly appearing in their GNOME
Terminal. One person with Ubuntu 23.10 and two people with Ubuntu 22.04
(one of which comments has just been removed).

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/-/issues/8070

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1509058/input-delay-on-terminal-
ubuntu-22-04-4

GNOME Terminal, and its underlying VTE terminal emulator widget, did not
receive any updates recently in Ubuntu, so it's highly suspected that
the bug sneaked in into some other component (or maybe a valid change in
some other component triggered a yet undiscovered bug in VTE / GNOME
Terminal).

Even though I cannot reproduce the issue myself, I went through the log
of my recent apt updates, and this mutter change is the only one
seemingly relevant (see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
terminal/-/issues/8070#note_2067801 onwards); in fact, the summary
showing a suspiciously high correlation with the new problem.

At this point I don't have anything concrete, and it might just be a
random coincidence, but I highly suspect that this recent mutter update
introduces severe lagging in GNOME Terminal (and other terminal
emulators using VTE's GTK3 version).

[Bug 2057792] Re: Some Games are crashing linked to a vm_max_map_count too low

2024-03-30 Thread vadim
I suggest including 2147483642 not in LTS, but in Ubuntu 24.10 as an
experiment. Because I noticed an unpleasant detail. For example, there
is a game "Don't Starve," I know there is a native version, but this is
just as an experiment with Proton. If you launch the Proton version, you
will receive a message when vm.max_map_count = 1048576:
"steam_app_218740" is not responding. You may choose to wait a short
while for it to continue or force the app to quit entirely. But when
vm.max_map_count = 2147483642, there are no problems, everything loads
instantly.

2024-03-30 Thread Chris Mounce
I am also affected by this. I have an Ubuntu webserver (t2.micro,
22.04.4 LTS (jammy)) that suddenly started having these show up in the
kernel journalctl logs, multiple times at boot time.

Just to be sure I had the latest everything, I ran `apt update`, `apt
upgrade`, and rebooted; the UBSAN error still shows up in the logs.
`uname -r` says I'm running 6.5.0-1016-aws.

The webserver still functions as far as I can tell, but it's definitely
a regression. I created this EC2 instance with 22.04 a couple of months
ago, and it suddenly started happening.

[Bug 2058480] Re: [Ubuntu 22.04.4/linux-image-6.5.0-1014-aws] Kernel outputs "UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in /build/linux-aws-6.5-4tw9h1/linux-aws-6.5-6.5.0/drivers/net/xen-netfront.c:349:9 " mul

2024-03-30 Thread Chris Mounce
This may have already been fixed upstream in December 2023: this commit
to xen-project/xen looks extremely relevant, because it purports to fix
an UBSAN issue with the exact same error text as this issue ("UBSAN:
index 1 is out of range for type 'xen_netif_rx_sring_entry [1]'"):

https://github.com/xen-
project/xen/commit/93d913c6e66e01597681d0a456c1523279218524

I am way out of my depth here, but as I understand it, these xen files
get vendored into the Linux codebase:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=125c0a646a257fd58de223f2c3e1fe8a99085644

...and from there, they get copied into the git repos for both Ubuntu's
`linux` and `linux-aws` packages. Here's one of the affected files in
the Jammy LTS repos, and it definitely hasn't been patched because it
was last updated in 2021:

- linux:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/jammy/log/include/xen/interface/io/ring.h
- linux-aws:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/log/include/xen/interface/io/ring.h
