[Bug 290021] Re: 5-20 second pauses on wireless network

2008-11-14 Thread Raymond
Hi, please close this bug. I found it does happen with linux, but only
with DD-WRT v24SP1. I moved to OpenWRT and no longer see the issue.

[Bug 197681] Re: cannot display this video mode

2008-10-26 Thread Raymond
Hi, Did a distribution upgrade to 8.10 Sunday 26th Oct. and it`s still
the same. In a screen of 1024x768 (or 1280x1024) games like Trackballs
or Extreme Tux Racer show a black screen with the "cannot display this
video mode" message. You can hear the audio. This is with the visual
effects set to none.

[Bug 290021] [NEW] 5-20 second pauses on wireless network

2008-10-27 Thread Raymond
Public bug reported:

Using Intrepid, Intel 4965 I am noticing long pauses on my wireless network. I
have tried both the included intel driver and the backport modules as suggested

this, I ran ping 192.168.1.1 (my gateway) on my linux laptop. At the same time
I ran ping -t 192.168.1.1 from my Windows laptop. I do not see the issue on the

[Bug 292093] [NEW] other users cannot login

2008-11-01 Thread Raymond

After doing a distro upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 I am the only one who can
login. Any other user after entering their name and password the screen
just goes blank, the mouse pointer still works as does "ctrl-alt-

and recreate it using adduser still has the same effect, same with the
shut down/switch user icon in the panel.

[Bug 342939] Re: Screen dims when playing games

2009-03-23 Thread Raymond
Acer 5720 Laptop, Intel core 2 duo T7300 (2ghz),2gb Ram, Mobile Intel
graphics media accelerator X3100. After booting the screen does the odd
flicker but when playing games like SuperTuxkart or Secret Maryo
Chronicles the screen dims. An Acer shortcut is "Fn+rt.cursor key" to
increase brightness but it does not now work properly and there is no
progress bar (something new appears in the top right corner but
disappears. The brightness goes up and down and you have to try and stop
it on bright. But it soon dims again. This did not happen on Intrepid
(or any other).

[Bug 360997] Re: Users screen res. reverts to max after reboot

2009-04-15 Thread Raymond
When changing Display resolution a box appears saying "It appears your graphic
driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool, Do you want
to use your vendors tool instead" If I click "yes" and use the NVidia tool to
set 1024x768 it will revert to 1280x1024 at the next reboot. If I click "No"
and use the box that now appears it does work eventually. Every time I log out
a box appears stating that "power management is not responding" and "Log out
anyway".
But it does survive a reboot although the power management appears every logout.

[Bug 360997] [NEW] Users screen res. reverts to max after reboot

2009-04-14 Thread Raymond
Public bug reported:

Jaunty Beta. My Desktop (administrator) is set to 1024x768 and is ok.
The 3 other users screens revert to the maximum size (1280x1024) after a
reboot. One of these users has no icons on the desktop and permission is
denied if you try to create a new folder / add game launcher to desktop.
Also everytime I do a new install (separate /home) I cannot reuse the
existing users, I have to rm them from the shell and recreate them all
again. 4 or 5 distros ago it used to say "directory exists use it
anyway?" can we have that feature back?

[Bug 197681] Re: cannot display this video mode

2008-04-27 Thread Raymond
Update.
Despite all software updates still no change, so I downloaded 8.04 RC. and did
a fresh install. After enabling restricted graphics driver and rebooting I got
a box stating "Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode screen graphics not
detected correctly" and upon logging in a message "Failed to initialize Hal".
System/Preferences/Screen Resolution only had 800x600.
I reinstalled Gutsy everything worked correctly, Then today (27th. April) I did
a Distro upgrade. After rebooting (kernel 2.6.24-16-generic) after logging in I
got a black screen with "Cannot display this video mode change computer to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]". I rebooted using kernel 2.6.22-14-generic and the "Ubuntu
is running in low resolution" box came up again, so I configured it for NVidia
generic and logged on to a 800x600 screen, this time I could set the screen
resolution.
Rebooted using kernel 2.6.24-16-generic and everything (games as well) works
except I only get the top left corner of the login screen. (must be about
320x240)

[Bug 197681] Re: cannot display this video mode

2008-04-27 Thread Raymond
Additional info.
While trying to get GDM to display properly I went into xorg.conf and removed
all video modes below 1024x768 this had no effect on the login but certain
games gave that "Cannot display video mode" message again. I typed [EMAIL
PROTECTED] back into xorg.conf and the games worked again. Why does it ask for
1280x1024?

[Bug 197681] [NEW] cannot display this video mode

2008-03-02 Thread Raymond
Public bug reported:

When playing games at 1024x768 on Heron Alpha 5 certain popular game
like Supertux, Planet Penguin Racer, Trackballs, etc cause the monitor
(Philips 190c) to display the message "Cannot display this video mode.
Change computer input to [EMAIL PROTECTED]" on a black screen. If I go to
System/Screen Resolution and change it to 1280x1024 (only 50/51hz
available) it stays the same. We`ve had no trouble playing these games
in the past. (Dapper, Feisty, Gutsy)

Re: [Bug 93259] Re: [apport] gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV" while updating via update-manager

2007-03-18 Thread Raymond
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 85776 ***

Hello Sebastien,
I`m managed to make a Valgrind.log but I don`t know if its any use
to you it only happened the once.
Thursdays update had a notice about Ubuntu using closed source drivers
(already read about it and have nvidia drivers installed anyway)but I
clicked on "OK" and thought no more of it. The next day the X server
could`nt find the nvidia driver so I changed the xorg.conf to "vesa"
just to get a gui but it could`nt find that either, in the end I had to
use xorg.conf.backup.
Bye for now

[Bug 477596] Re: cant open places ? >>>Could not open location 'file:///home/lab/Videos' No application is registered as handling this file. hmm help plz

2010-05-06 Thread Raymond
Ubuntu 10.4 LTS Could not open location "file:///home/ray" failed to execute
child process "/usr/bin/dolphin"(No such file or directory)
Clean install but existing home partition. No icons or (my)wallpaper on
desktop. could the three "///" be the problem?
Using the Bash shows /home/ray exists and I can access the files.
In dozens of upgrades/installs never had this before.

2010-05-09 Thread Raymond
Sorry, I realized that was what it was telling me. Seeing as it was a
new installation I deleted all the hidden files in /home and
reinstalled. Its ok. now except for problems with thunderbird and imap
which I`ve sorted. (recreated account as pop)

Re: [Bug 367175] Re: thunderbird not using indicator applet

2010-03-30 Thread Raymond
I'll agree with Martyn and Ralf and add that I use it at work in an
Exchange environment configured for IMAP and using Sunbird to manage
my calendar after becoming S & T of Evolution's BS.

Thunderbird 3.1 looks amazing and am going to upgrade once my testing
is complete.

Re: [Bug 514202] Re: Can't listen to station

2010-01-29 Thread Raymond
Hi, Pedro there are several stations.
Like http://64.120.147.53:7521
http://66.55.139.212:7010
http://70.86.74.163:8015
http://64.120.147.53:8738
When I push the "PLAY" button, after 5 sec. the player tells me "service NOT
availlable".
I hope I told you enough, if not feel free to mail me.
Greetings,

 Raymond. P. HANSSENS.

[Bug 452790] Re: jamu.py crashed in Program._init_() from MythTV.py

2009-10-16 Thread Raymond
As far as I can tell, python should default to whatever C uses, and
processing floats should "just work", however that never turns out as
planned... I can work around this using 'locale.atof()' instead of
'float()', assuming python interprets your localizations settings
properly.

Can you open python on the command line, run:

import locale
locale.localeconv()['decimal_point']

and see if it is set properly?

Should set the defaults from the environment, and adjusts all conversion
between floats and strings to use their respective counterpart functions
in locale.

Do the error ocurr on other ubuntu version 14.04 or 12.04 live cd?

it mean the value return is larger than buffer size or the interrupt is
not handled properly

if (current_ptr > runtime->buffer_size)
   current_ptr = runtime->buffer_size;

For any pulse application, it just control by the subdevice opened by
