[Bug 551515] Re: [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile
Luke, I tested your Orca fix. Before I updated my system, I removed my doed .bash_logout and /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default file modifications. When gnome-orca package is updated, I restart my system. First login operation is works perfect, Orca is talking fine both GDM login screen and after login operation. After the first login is completed, I do following simple test: I do three time the logout and login operation with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace key. First to logout and login operation is OK, but if the next or next+1 logout operation is happening, Orca only talking GDM screen but after login operation is happening, Orca is launch, but silent. I need launch a terminal and manual run killall speech-dispatcher command to get back the speech. Unfortunately, this is a reproducable issue my full uptodated system, you confirm this? Please try this test with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace key combination use. I tryed again apply my prewious suggested modifications with the .bash_logout file and /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default file (insert killall speech-dispatcher line with proper place this files). When I doed this two modifications and repeat this test, this prewious wroted problem is not happening, Orca is wonderful talking with GDM login screen and after login operation with 10 doed logout/login test with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace keycombination use. [Bug 563717] [NEW] [Lucid or Maverick] When Ubuntu installation is happening with accessibility mode, need default enabled the accessibility support with future created users in installed system
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: casper Dear Developers, In Lucid or next developing cicle, my openion need default enable the accessibility support in installed system with all future created users, if the installation is happened for example with screen reader mode (access=v3 parameter use with boot). Now, following think is happening after installation if visual impaired user installing the system with screen reader support: In Lucid, wonderful have accessible GDM screen, the first created user have wonderful accessibility support. But, if the first admin right user creating a new user, new user does'nt get accessibility support, accessibility support related settings is default disabled. If a blind user would like using the system, need hand enabling following g-conf settings in terminal without any screen reader support, gct now means gconftool-2 command: gct -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility true gct -s -t bool /apps/gksu/disable-grab true gct -s -t string /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/default /usr/bin/metacity gct -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/startup true gct -s -t string /desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/exec orca gct -s -t string /apps/empathy/conversation/theme classic This copyed code part is present in casper source 30accessibility script in blindness profile. Of course, first admin right user possible do this commands when logging in with new user account in terminal, but very need this if a screen reader choosed installation is happened? How can possible fix this problem if you want? 1. Possible not elegant, but during installation after happened accessibility setting configuration with first created user in target system, need copying important configuration folders in target system created first user home directory to target system /etc/skel folder. But, this step I think is resulting more redundant cp lines. 2. A more useful, simple, tested fix method: Need using system default configurations, not user based configurations when installer configuring with accessibility related settings, for example following command replace the old user based /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility configuration: Original command is following: gconftool-2 -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility true This command enable accessibility mode only with actual user. Replaced command is following: gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility true This command enables systemwide default the GNOME accessibility setting. I now tryed the second fix way with patched old gct function in ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script in casper source package, and do a clean installation. The second suggested fix way work wonderful, next comment I writing the test results, and sending the patch. This patch modify in the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script the gct function. Now, accessibility settings is enabled with user based settings method. This patch change this way with system wide setting. I tested this patch with following criterias, all my doed tests is passed: 1. Have accessibility support after installation? Yes, of course. 2. If in the installed system the first administrator user creating new users, new created users get default enabled accessibility support? This is done, this is happening now right when I logged in with new created user account. Because I installed the system with screen reader support, Orca wonderful launch when I logged in with new created account. 3. Possible turn off accessibility support with new created account after login operation, and don't disturb another users accessibility settings? [Bug 656129] [NEW] [Maverick] keyboard layout always switching US layout after login with a special situation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Dear Developers, I hope I choosed right package. I see a special problem with default installation is not happened, I compared Lucid and Mawerick working method. My lucid system I using following keyboard layouts, US and Hungarian. Because I using Orca Screen Reader, I move top with US keyboard layout, because if I switch US or Hu keyboard layout dinamicaly, Orca keystrokes phisical place is equals both two keyboard layouts if US keyboard layout have top of the keyboard layouts list. When I do same configuration with Maverick after installation (add US layout with SystemPreferencesKeyboard/layouts page) and using move to top button, after logout and logging in again, the US keyboard layout is always the default keyboard layout. This is the problem, because my Lucid system doesn't producing this bug. My home directory of course have a .dmrc file with have following lines if I using hungarian locale: [Desktop] Language=hu_HU.utf8 Layout=hu If I remove the US keyboard layout the list or move to top with Hungarian keyboard layout, of course the default keyboard layout after login is hungarian, but if I choosing this step, Orca laptop keystrokes is different. For example: If I using english keyboard layout, the sayall document command is Capslock+;. If I using hungarian keyboard layout, the sayall document command is Capslock+, keystroke, because in hungarian keyboard layout the AltGR, is writing ; character. My Lucid system if I using hungarian layout or english layout, the sayall document command is equals phisical place (Capslock+; or capslock+é if I using hungarian keyboard layout but english keyboard layout is have top of the list my Lucid system). Possible fix this problem? The reproducation steps is very easy: If you have an installed Maverick system, do following steps: 1. Choose the systempreferenceskeyboard preference tool. 2. Navigate the layouts page, and add for example the US keyboard layout. 3. Click the move up button if you choosed the US layout with the layouts list. 4. Logout, and login again. If you are lucky, the keyboard indicator shows the default keyboard is US. [Bug 551515] [NEW] [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: casper Dear Developers, In Lucid, some blind users lot of time wroted following problem in Ubuntu-Accessibility list: When GDM is upgraded an installed system, ubiquity-casper 30accessibility script preconfigured GDM accessible login settings during installation is restored with default value. This is resulting problems with next restart, because blind users impossible use accessible GDM login feature before not setting manual all important GDM related gconf settings and restart the system. The problem related with following: Now, in blindness profile, gct_gdm using following method to configure GDM accessible login feature: gct_gdm() { chroot /target sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 $@ gct_gdm -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility true gct_gdm -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/startup true gct_gdm -s -t string /desktop/gnome/applications/at/visual/exec orca gct_gdm -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/applications/at/screen_reader_enabled true So, the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script set this feature related settings with gdm user, not using system default setting method. For example, Bill Cox Vinux Developer in Ubuntu Accessibility List suggest following change: All of the 30-accessibility commands apply to gdm's local copy of settings, not default system-wide settings. I would recommend that they be changed to system wide. I already do that in Vinux. I prefer to set this option as a global default value. That, when users update their system and gdm is upgraded, they still have a talking login. The command I use is: gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/applications/at/screen_reader_enabled true That should fix the problem long-term. I make a change with ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with important places, and setting all GDM related accessibility settings with system vide settings in blindness profile. Before I write this bugreport, I make my testing purpose a custom actual Lucid live CD, with containing new patched ubiquity-casper package. I do clean installation, and after this, I do a full apt-get dist-upgrade command. I do this, because I known now happening this day a GDM upgrade, and this is ideal situation for testing. The good results is following: My maked patched ubiquity-casper package is working absolute safe. When the installation is finished, I restart the system. GDM is talking fine after restart. I using blindness profile with screen reader support during installation. After I logged in first, I do full apt-get dist-upgrade and restart my system. After restart is happened and GDM is present my display, accessible login feature working absolute right, Orca is wonderful talking after GDM upgrade. Please apply my patch if this is possible, because this patch resulting longer time safe working accessible login feature with visual impaired users if using Orca Screen Reader. This change not disturb non visual imparied users, this change do 30accessibility script during installation if accessible mode is v3. [Bug 551515] Re: [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile
I do a second revision. Because now the 30accessibility script now not copying the .orca folder with target system/var/lib/gdm folder, this is resulting some problems. The trivial example is following: For example, if a blind user using a notebook, when booting blindness profile (accessibility=v3) mode, first step usual toggle the Orca keyboard layout from desktop to laptop layout with Orca preferences, changing speech rate, speech pitch, etc. This modifyed .orca setting folder is copyed correct automatical the new created user home folder in target system, but not copyed the target system /var/lib/gdm folder. For example, if the blind user using a laptop layout, but GDM orca settings is not containing this change, impossible to using general Orca operation commands (flat review command, where am I operation, etc) with GDM screen. This second revision patch solwing this problem and prewious fixed problems with one patch. I tested again the second revision version with a clean installation, all my doed changes works fine. This change is absolute safe, because executing only if accessibility mode is v3 (screen reader mode). Luke, yesterday Bill suggested need copying the live user .orca folder in target system/etc/skel folder. This is not problem, easy to do. But, I think now original 30accessibility script is not copyed all important another accessibility related settings to target system /etc/skel folder if accessibility mode is screen reader mode (access=v3 parameter). I do this change when I work the 3. revision patch version if this is needed? The advantage is following this change: If a blind user using original Ubuntu version with installation with access=v3 mode and not using special accessible prepared ubuntu based distribution (Vinux, BeLin, etc), he get a basic accessible system if he create a new user and logging with new account, not need hand configure accessibility related settings with new user without speech support. [Bug 546922] [NEW] [lucid] Some suggestions with new gfxboot artwork
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gfxboot Dear Developers, My bugreport is a wish list only, but possible containing some useful ydeas with new artwork: In Lucid Beta 1 release, Colin Watson do a new gfxboot artwork, and simplest menu system with new users. This is absolute not problem with new end users. :-):-) But, for example I am a visual impaired developer, and if the new artwork is present the display, I am not always known when need press a tab key to get back old menu, and after this setting accessibility mode, etc. Now, in live CD the time setting with 50 in isolinux/isolinux.cfg file with following line: timeout 50 If I known right, this setting means 5 second, old setting is 300 (30 second). After the time is expired, I think the default action is launch Ubiquity installer, the problem with this method is following: This window now default inaccessible with Orca screen reader, because prewious not setted accessibility mode. I don't no how can possible the new artwork setting accessibility preferences before executing default action, I known only old method, i unfortunately not see the display and not always have personal helper people. Because I see this problem, temporary I copyed old bootlogo file with prewious alpha3 live CD, because the old method is easyest use me. I have some suggestions, I don't no what possible doing you, and what suggestions disturb another non visual impaired users: 1. Need insert a short beep when the new artwork is displayed, visual impaired people known after the beep need press a Tab key if he would like get back traditional menu system. But, I don't no this feature disturb non visual impaired users or not. A compromise way is an option, wich possible toggle in isolinux.cfg or another config file, for example, beep=yes or beep=no. But if you choose this compromise way, this method help developers if would like do special Ubuntu based distributions for visual impaired people, for example the Vinux distribution developers, but not disturb the beep with non visual impaired endusers. 2. Possible need increase the timeout setting with old 300 setting. 3. If possible, need do a config option with toggle the user would like new gfxboot artwork or not. This is only a technical feature request and development specific purpose request, not important with non visual impaired end users, but I write for example I why would like this option: In hungary, with a nonprofit organization I developing since two years ago a hungarian special distribution with based on Ubuntu, for hungarian visual impaired people. This distribution interesting is following default awailable features (I not write all features): 1. Default enabled accessibility support with Orca screen reader (screen reader mode). Only need add the access=v3 with the text.cfg file with append=... lines with try ubuntu and install ubuntu menu parts. 2. Enabled accessibility support with screen reader mode with future created users (copyed all accessibility related setting with /etc/skel) in live cd, the advantage this method: when the installer is installing the target system, automatical copying this modifyed /etc/skel folder, and if the visual impaired people creating another user, accessibility support is default working with new user, not need setting lot of g-conf key without screen reader. 3. Default enabled braille support (etc/default/brltty changed the run_brltty=no to yes in live cd filesystem.squashfs file). 4. Setted some default disabled key bindings (launch Terminal, launch web browser, etc). 5. Some builtin only hungarian specific Orca customization script (RSS content handle, weather spokening, name day spokening, etc. :-):-) My distribution is similar with Vinux distribution, but only using hungarian language and hungarian specific modifications and hungaryan specific functions. Ubuntu Lucid is a very good development distribution, I am using day by day, and very stable. Congratulation all developers the good work, because I known, this is very hard work. Re: [Bug 546922] Re: [lucid] Some suggestions with new gfxboot artwork
Thank you Colin the fast answer, Switch to grub2 in future I think is possible good ydea, because in /etc/default/grub file now already have an option, with commented by default: # Uncomment to get a beep at grub start GRUB_INIT_TUNE=480 440 1 For example, I removed the # character before the option, and when grub2 is present the display, wonderful have a beep. But, I am not sure some problem solving method in future when this switch is happening: Unfortunately, I not known detailed the Ubuntu live cd isolinux boot working method and menu programming method. For example, if the design team switching grub2, if a wisual impaired people would like using not special Ubuntu based distributions (would like using original Ubuntu live CD's), how can possible choose in future the language, accessibility mode, etc? For example my case in future possible easy to give grub2 default command line with access=v3 parameter in the live CD filesystem /etc/default folder, but now need look this problem with word vide perspective. The language choosing problem I solwed following way: I add a lang named file with /isolinux folder in the live CD, with containing only hu line, so, the default language is hungarian my ISO, but this is not good method with general ISO's. You wroted: Subscribing the design team who asked for this change, in case they have advice on fixing the problems here. Need I do anything (subscribe a mailing list and forward my suggestions), or you subscribed designing team? Re: [Bug 546922] Re: [lucid] Some suggestions with new gfxboot artwork
Hy Bill, I agree, if simplest blind end users. But I think your suggestion need applying the first boot screen, not the now presented graphical window after the boot is finished. For example, now the new boot menu is present, need a shortcut key to turn accessibility modes if we want the first graphical window talking with Orca. Now, this is not happening if I passed the access=v3 parameter, need detecting why not working this. Now, if you dont press a key, what buttons are present when the graphical window is displayed? Have this buttons a mnemonic letters? Possible navigating this buttons with keyboard? I think need do a short test if you have a little time: For example, if you modify the text.cfg file in live CD /isolinux directory and add default add access=v3 option in the appendfile= lines, what shows the /proc/cmdline file when the live CD ends booting and the graphical window is displayed? You try following: 1. Download a daily live cd. 2. Mount the ISO file with following command: mount isoname mntdir -o loop cd mntdir 3. Copy all files from iso file to a work directory after you mount the ISO file with following command: cp -r * workdiryouwanttoput the ISO contents cp -r .disk workdiryouwanttoput the ISO contents 4. Change directory the work directory. 5. Edit the isolinux/text.cfg file, and modify it like following, only we need modify now append file lines: append file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet access=v3 splash -- 6. When you done, save the file and need regenerate to new ISO file with following command: mkisofs -r -V Bill ISO -cache-inodes -J -l -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o ~/live.iso . Burn the new ISO, and try it without not press any key. When the first graphical GNOME window is displayed, try switch console for example with Ctrl+Alt+F1, and loog what command line parameters passed to /proc/cmdline file. The access=v3 parameter is passed before not clicking any button you the graphical window? [Bug 546922] Re: [lucid] Some suggestions with new gfxboot artwork
Colin, Bill, I am very happy now. :-):-) I found an absolute good working way to insert a system beep before the new Ubuntu boot artwork is present. I tested my method with official Lucid beta1 live CD, and sure work. I do following steps: 0.: Before I do anything, need copy entire CD directory structure with a work directory with my prewious comment described steps. 1. I insert with end of isolinux/text.cfg with following line: display isolinux.txt 2. I add only the ascii 7 character with isolinux/isolinux.txt file with following command in gnome-terminal: echo CtrlvCtrlg isolinux/isolinux.txt Ctrlv and Ctrlg means normal keyboard keystrokes. 3. Regenerated with modifyed cd ISO file with prewious described mkisofs command. The results: After the burn is completed and I restart the system, I hear my notebook internal speaker a beep when the Ubuntu artwork logo is displayed. After beep I press a Tab key, and get back traditional screen (language choose list and traditional menu system after language choose). After language choose I press F5 and 3 down arrow key and an enter key to choose Orca screen reader, and press an enter key to try ubuntu menu item. Orca is launched absolute correct. Thoughts, Attila ** Patch added: Unfortunately this patch do isolinux/text.cfg modification, but not create the isolinux/isolinux.txt file. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/42036052/isolinux-beep.patch -- [lucid] Some suggestions with new gfxboot artwork https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546922 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 551515] Re: [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile
Now, have different situations with this step need or possible not need. Luke, if we not copying .orca folder in /var/lib/gdm folder with target system, if any user using for example a different voice speech person because using different language, hear different voice the login screen output and the first user logged in screen reader output. For example a simple example: When I logged in the live CD, I setted up speech values with following: Speech system: Speech-dispatcher (this is not changed). Speech sinthesizer: Espeak Person: hungaryan This is need when I would like hear hungarian translated text with hungarian Espeak language. This settings is absolute correct copyed with new created first user home directory, but GDM is not sinchronised if we don't do this step. For example, in GDM, I hear hungarian login screen with the Cantonese Espeak voice, and this is very horrible. :-):-) If I or another non english language users would like solving this problem, need one time manualy to copy the first user .orca directory with /var/lib/gdm folder with following commands: sudo cp -r .orca /var/lib/gdm sudo chown -hR gdm /var/lib/gdm This is not problem me, but why need do this steps with a beginner Ubuntu blind user for example he possible absolute not known Terminal commands, absolute not known where stored the GDM home directory? So, I think this is absolute need if we want solwing with non english language specific talking problems with an automated way in GDM accessible login feature, because this is easy and done now. The .orca copy in target system/etc/skel folder is a different situation. For example, I think absolute need provide a basic accessibility support with future created users in target system if the system is installed with access=v3 option. But, need copy the .orca folder with target system/etc/skel folder or not need copying it with normal Ubuntu system? This is an optional choice and absolute need you choice. The advantage of the copying is a following trivial example: If a notebook blind user using laptop key binding with the live CD, not need always setting all settings if he created a new users. But, I understand, what happen if a new user not like the live CD setted speech rates, speech pitches? This is difficulter choice. Now, Bill and Me working with a pre setted .orca folder in live CD/etc/skel folder, because we already setting important orca default and optional important settings (Firefox Orca structural navigation commands, custom orca scripts, optional key bindings, etc. and we want this settings is already setted with new created users home directory. Vinux and BeLin using this mehanishm and the users like this method since two years. The little problem of we choosed method is of course the laptop keyboard layout is not setted correct (we using default Desktop layout), but now the patch fix this if need. In longer period, I think the best way choose is the maximum possible integration. This is resulting longer work for example the next or next+1 Ubuntu release development, but I would like help and I absolute sure Bill would like help same. For example, now we not setting up extra key bindings with target system in 30accessibility script, but in future we easy to do this if have a standard keyboard talking map with Vinux and BeLin users. For example this is bigger step with next Ubuntu version, but now this is little offtopic, but not impossible to do. :-):-) I would like to do this work with next release. Sorry my long comment. Re: [Bug 551515] Re: [Lucid] need little modify the ubiquity-hooks/30accessibility script with gdm accessibility setting configuration part in Blindness profile
Luke, thank you very mutch. Longer time, you are absolute right. If we using now this patched method in Lucid, not producing problems. Very interesting, GDM language is right (for example my system this is hungarian. You would like do your suggested fix with next Ubuntu developing cicle (10.10)? How can I help you in future? I would like help if my knowledges is enough to do suggested fixes and testing. In future, not only following the matter with not correct detected the default language speech in Espeak? Now, a clean hungarian Lucid installation the /usr/share/espeak-data/voices/default file (the default voice file) is following: name default language en gender male The correct is following: name default language hu gender male If not have preconfigured Orca settings, Orca I think using default voice file if the synthesizer is Espeak. What happen if in future we editing this default file with 30accessibility script (change the language=en line to correct actual choosed installation language in target system)? This is possible work in future. But, this future fix is not solving for example the laptop keyboard layout change problem in GDM screen if the blind user changing Orca keyboard layout with desktop to laptop if he a notebook owner before the installation. For example, if in future we not copying the .orca folder in first user home directory to target system/var/lib/gdm folder, impossible to use the user for example the Orca flat review commands, where am I commands, because the keyboard layouts is different with login screen and the logged user. For example in future, in GDM login screen the keyboard layout the Orca default desktop layout because not have .orca stored settings, the first created and logged user the keyboard layout is laptop, because the user already changed this setting before the installation and this change is synchronised in target system the first user home directory. Now, this settings is equals if you apply the patch in beta2 in Lucid. [Bug 550717] [NEW] [Lucid] two accessiblity related bug with Ubiquity, with easy to fix
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Dear Developers, In Ubuntu Accessibility List, Bill Cox Vinux developer wroted following letter: When installing with screen reader enabled, ubiquity stops talking about half the time, which is very frustrating for blind users. I've been able to get it to work reliably, with only two edits. First in /usr/bin/ubiquity, change the call from gksu to sudo: toexec = ['gksudo', '--preserve-env'] if desktop: toexec.extend(['--desktop', desktop]) toexec.append('--') Should be just: toexec = ['sudo', '-E'] The second thing is more minor. If you select a large font, and install in a VirtualBox machine, with an 800x600 display, then ubquity hangs when the partitioner screen starts. This is caused by a one-line bug in /usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/gtk_ui.py. I maked a test fix patch with solving Bill wroted two problem, and add the sudo prefix the ubiquity-2.2.10/desktop/ubiquity-gtkui.desktop.in file. The desktop.in modification is needed. [Bug 689193] [NEW] [Lucid] When Thunderbird 3.0.10 version upgraded with 3.1.7 version, I see some not good accessibility related problem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunderbird Dear Developers, With Ubuntu Accessibility list I sent following letter this day morning: This day morning in Lucid security unfortunately original Thunderbird version is upgraded with 3.1.7 release my Lucid system. With Orca 2.30 version this change resulting very slow list navigation with mail folders, similar with Maverick original Orca 2.32 version if an inbox folder have relative lot of messages. If a folder have lot of messages, for example the focusing, navigation operations is very slow after upgrade. Another problem: if I choosing an email message, unable to read the message body without not try jumping the caret with Tab or Shift+Tab key. I not using present messages with new tab option. See following bug, with partialy fixed the slowest list navigation problem under Orca git master version to see what performance related problem we seeing with Orca and Thunderbird 3.1.7 release: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633104 I absolute agree the security upgrades is very important, but this change now kill Thunderbird accessibility. Prewious oldest awailable Thunderbird 3.0.10 version is works fine with Lucid before this upgrade and wonderful usable with all tasks. I known, Mozilla changed the products supporting model and your work is absolute not easy, because you need following the upgrades. But if now happened this problem, what will be happening for example with Firefox 4 upgrade? Before I do upgrade, I forgot hold Thunderbird related packages (thunderbird, thunderbird-gnome-support, thunderbird-locale-en, thunderbird-locale-hu). What place I possible download this latest 3.0.x awailable packages source to undo this upgrade? Or this is not possible, what will be happening for example the Lucid LTS release to we get back Thunderbird accessibility support? Have you got an ydea how can possible fix this bug for example an LTS release? Compatibility purpose not possible do an alternative package the prewious good working Thunderbird 3.0.10 release if the main version is upgraded with full newest upstream version, for example: thunderbird-3.0.10 thunderbird-3.0.10-gnome-support thunderbird-3.0.10-locales This is important the Mozilla products, because another components are not rolling updated, for example gnome-orca package is not updated when a new upstream release is released, and for example if the Mozilla products is upgraded with newest upstream releases, possible oldest awailable Orca version not perfect handling with some components, this is important with accessibility. Re: [Bug 689193] Re: [Lucid] When Thunderbird 3.0.10 version upgraded with 3.1.7 version, I see some not good accessibility related problem
For example a Vinux user wroted following letter with vinux-support list, Vinux is an accessible Ubuntu based distribution with visual impaired users: Hello all. I am facing a very interesting problem with thunderbird right now. Fortunately this is the email Id I use for Orca and many other mailing list and it is the one which is working fine. Well, what has happened is that till today morning I could perfectly use Orca with thundirbird. I have two accounts, hackin...@gmail.com (the current one from which I am mailing ) and krm...@gmail.com, the one which is in question. The problem is that today evening I came back from work and as usual I moved my .thunderbird folder from my work pc to the home pc. I generally compress the entire folder to a file called .thunderbird.tar.gz and copy it to my home machine. I opened the inbox expecting none of the kind I am experiencing now. When I open the treeview of hackingkk and go to the inbox, I can tab and start using the up and down arrow to navigate the list of emails. But when I open krm...@gmail.com and hit down arrow to inbox, it takes a few seconds to announce inbox. Then the big problem starts. I press tab and wait and wait and wait! Orca does not read any thing after that. I press down arrow and again waited for 30 minutes but no response. I pressed the end key and what do i find? After 20 minutes of waiting, Orca reads the subject of an unread message. This means that the sorting of my mailes has changed! The latest emails have gone down and the mails from 2006 are at the top. How can this happen? Secondly, I have ubuntu 10.10 on my office pc and 9.04 (vinux ) on my home pc. But all said and done, I did not find any problem with Orca till morning. Nothing has changed. So how is it possible that Orca refuses to read message list on one inbox and does not do the same on another? Well in krmane I have 3 emails and in hackingkk its about 25000? But till morning every thing was perfectly ok! Can some one solve the suspence? Happy hacking. Krishnakan I am not full sure this prewious quoted problem is Thunderbird 3.1.7 related, but the second problem is absolute sure: And another accessibility related problem with vinux-support list too: I also see in thunderbird 3.1 that the search combobox (ctrl + k) is not very accessible. For example in the previous version, I could just do an alt + down arrow and set which ever parameters I like, such as subject, sender, body etc. This is not possible with the latest 3.1 with latest stable orca. Happy hacking. Krishnakant Well, the slow list navigation issue is fixed with Orca development version, you are right, but this is not solving this slow list navigation problem under Lucid and Maverick. Not fixed yet another problems (for example if an user opening a message, unable to read the message with arrow keys without not using the new tab option with Thunderbird). This is working right with prewious 3.0.10 release too (existing message window, message presenting option working right too). Re: [Bug 689193] Re: [Lucid] When Thunderbird 3.0.10 version upgraded with 3.1.7 version, I see some not good accessibility related problem
Mica, how can you would like fix the problems with Lucid related? The patched Orca version in Maverick only fix the long list navigation problem if after the Orca upgrade is happened the users turn off the speak child position check box with Orca application preferences/thunderbird page. But for example if the users do this, not hear the tree view element number position index (for example 2 of 7 style number) if using Thunderbird. Speak child position feature tells users what the actual choosed item number and how many elements have the list. Have another bug with not fixed yet with Orca level entire, only if the speak child position feature is turned off: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634642 I little fraid too big the difference the 2.32 and 2.30 Orca releases with Lucid update related, but absolute sure Luke Yelawitch accessibility developer possible answer this related. But this fix unfortunately not resolving the user wroted search entri related problem, and the message read related problem if the user perhaps not using the present new tab option. Now in 3.1.7 the existing message window and message presenting new window is not working right). For example if I using another two option to present messages and if I moving the cursor, I not hear the actual mail text content. An Orca user reported this issue with Mozilla developers, the bugreport link is following: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=615064. He wroted following: Something which may be of interest to users, the 3.3 branch of thunderbird does not show this bug. So coming back to the question of whether something like my fix should be added to orca, definitely not, I suspect it wouldn't deal with all affects of this additional window:activate event which I suspect may be coming out from firefox as well at times. Michael Whapples If you would like read entire thread this problem related, the subject of this thread is Orca and the problem when opening messages in a new window in thunderbird, and the orca-list homepage is http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/orca-list The november archive containing this problem related thread, the beginning date of this thread is november 26TH, 2010. [Bug 687440] Re: [Natty] gdm login-screen does not work with enter
Hy, In orca-list we found following bugreport with similar this bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=629310 For example now Michael Whapples wrote following in orca-list: Hello, There was a recent upgrade in archlinux for gdm and it includes a patch which resolves the issue mentioned by Attila, in not being able to just press enter at the gdm screen (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=629310). Now unfortunately this version of gdm in archlinux has issues with orca. The problem is that when gdm appears and orca has loaded the list for choosing a user does not speak or Braille anything. If I press tab, or possibly if I were to do something which takes focus away from the chooser and then return back to the chooser, then orca will speak and Braille the selection fine. I have done a debug on this and it appears that orca is getting no events while this happens, only the keypresses appear for that part of the debug output. Can anyone else reproduce this issue? Now obviously the list itself is accessible as when I move focus to it explicitly orca speaks fine. Now I get a few thoughts on different approaches to solve this, advice would be welcome: 1. Should I add to the bug report for bug 629310 saying that patch isn't making the chooser accessible to orca when it is giving focus to the list item? 2. Should we try and do some sort of work around in orca? I feel probably not. If others feel this is the best way to go, what is the best way to find out about what accessible elements are available at the gdm screen (I mean what can I run in such a restricted environment, I imagine accerciser won't work here). 3. Should I file a separate bug against GDM for this? Hello Clint, I have got a very good news: I tested the proposed repository awailable gtk+3.0 related packages my Ubuntu 12.04 systems both GNOME3 3.4 fallback session and Unity 2d. Both two desktop environments the reported bug are resolved after upgrade, I need only logout and login back my account after upgrade. I prewious wrote testcases now works succesfuly with multipage dialogues, for example Orca Screen Reader after I opening preferences dialog, press a TAB and two SHIFT+TAB key combinations, the caret right land the OK button. If I opening Orca Screen Reader preferences dialog, press a TAB key and one SHIFT+TAB key combination, when I after this key presses press right or left arrow, caret goto next or prewious page tab. Re: [Bug 1099309] [NEW] [Quantal and Raring] Brltty native braille support doesn't work with Orca
Hy Samuel, I have got a good news: The Debian Sid awailable version wonderful working my Ubuntu 13.04 system. I simple download the deb package related source files, install the missing build dependencies and build the package from source. I think this version not using Cithon when building Python bindings. Sure by sure I change the /etc/default/brltty file the START_IN_INITRAMFS setting from false to true, and ran update-initramfs -u command. Testing purpose I used the 4.4-8 package version. Before this changes, restart and shutdown operations little slow my system (about 10-13 second). Now, my system the restart and shutdown operation done about maximum three second. What the next step? Not matter if need entire installing my Ubuntu Raring system and try this changes the Ubuntu Raring original awailable package version (remove Cithon related patch, switch back Python binding build with python-pyrex) and test a package build. Re: [Bug 1099309] [NEW] [Quantal and Raring] Brltty native braille support doesn't work with Orca
Too early I happy. Have only one problem with I unable to resolve. If I launch my machine with Ubuntu 12.04 system the 4.3 rev 5477 version, everithing is works fine. When I shutdown my system and booting with Ubuntu raring, my braille display is detected correct, but I see only my braille display the Welcome to Orca message and enjoi. This situation both console and graphic session Brltty not working right. The killall brltty and execute brltty command not help, reconnect my braille display is not help. If I restart my Raring system this situation, all works right again, all Orca braille outputted messages I right see, in console and graphic session Brltty works right. My braille display is an Alva Satelite 570 display, the display is connected with USB.
