[Bug 529366] [NEW] Regression: usb-creator-gtk doesn't work as of 0.2.16, unetbootin works

2010-02-28 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

As of the latest update (0.2.16), usb-creator-gtk doesn't work. When
trying to install a live USB, the program says that the installation of
the bootloader failed, and then quits. I have tried the Jaunty CD,
Jaunty ISO and Karmic ISO with both space reservation options. Another
side effect is that a loop device is created, but not unmounted, so
after eight tries (eight loop devices), a different message
("Installation failed") appears because of the unavailability of a loop
device.

@illbashu, same problem here, except compiz succeeds in starting - while

too (not to be sadistic here) - previously I had that bad feeling that
no one else has the problem and I'd have to reinstall.

[Bug 529836] [NEW] [Lucid] [regression] Nautilus crashes on eject/unmount

2010-02-28 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

The latest update breaks unmounting and ejecting of FUSE filesystems;
the action succeeds but Nautilus crashes immediately after. As all
nautilus processes are handed over to the main nautilus process (the
console quits to the prompt), I can't see any console output and don't
know much more (what signal it quit with, etc). Running sudo nautilus
isn't very useful either; though it keeps as a separate process no FUSE

[Bug 529852] [NEW] [Lucid] T opens up terminal, even though I haven't assigned it anywhere

2010-02-28 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

I frequently use whatever to jump to controls, but I am quite
frustrated by the fact that Lucid, instead of going to the control
marked T, opens up a terminal when I press T. This doesn't
happen in Karmic.

I found it in GNOME Keyboard Shortcuts, and it was set to T. I
never did that; some update must have put in that as a default. This is
not a good default in my opinion; whatever is meant to be for
jumping to controls with the keyboard - in CCSM I explicitly set
Z to open a terminal but I also had to set it in GNOME Keyboard
Shortcuts.

Please consider removing T as a default key for opening a gnome-
terminal from the GNOME Keyboard Shortcuts defaults.

[Bug 521596] [NEW] Using NVIDIA drivers in Lucid causes display shift and flicker, or extreme slowness with compiz

2010-02-13 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

When installing the NVIDIA drivers (I've tried 190.53 through Jockey,
190.53 and 195.30 beta through run packages), everything in the
installation works fine.

I start gdm. Sometimes everything works fine (I'm using compiz with some
effects enabled) - but if so, the next restart will trigger the
symptoms. The symptoms are either an extreme slowness as if the desktop
was being rendered by CPU, or a weird shift in which the display is
vertically shifted and random colours appear. In this case, I also
experience the extreme slowness.

I've tried installing, uninstalling cleanly, then running vesa for some
time (which doesn't open gtk-window-decorator, nor can I type in text
fields), then going back to the NVIDIA driver. As stated, I've tried
jockey and the .run packages.

I'm running Lucid Lynx alpha 2 amd64 with all packages updated. At the
moment, I've installed the 190.53 .run package again, removing the
Section "Monitor" section in xorg.conf - and it seems to be working for
now. Upon restart, everything works fine, so far.

[Bug 521596] Re: Using NVIDIA drivers in Lucid causes display shift and flicker, or extreme slowness with compiz

2010-02-14 Thread Delan Azabani
It worked! These are the commands I used:

sudo -s
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
apt-get install nvidia-common nvidia-current nvidia-settings

I opened Jockey and installed the driver and everything worked fine
(except I accidentally chose 173 instead of 190)

xorg.conf was automagically created - not by nvidia-xconfig, but with
the following contents:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
DefaultDepth24
EndSection

Section "Module"
Load"glx"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo""True"
EndSection

I will now attempt installation of the latest version (190.53). Thanks
very much for your help - Jockey is way more convenient as I don't have
to do a manual rebuild every time I get a kernel update.

Upon reinstalling the driver after the lagginess came back, rebooting

At the moment, I'm running in a lowly 720x400 (not so nice if you're on

[Bug 525155] Re: OpenGL renders extremely slowly with NVIDIA drivers

2010-03-07 Thread Delan Azabani
I think I know what it /could/ be! I have been using a clean (no-nvidia,
no-xorg.conf) system for a while now and today I removed plymouth:

sudo apt-get purge ^.*plymouth.*\$

Anyway, upon installing NVIDIA 195.36.08 through Jockey, this is the
/third/ restart and Compiz through OpenGL is working without a hitch!

Also, by me not using Plymouth, I am no longer affected by the current
Plymouth bug which causes X to restart when hitting the Enter key.

I'll keep you posted; if the driver continues to work, the bug could be
a conflict link between nvidia and plymouth...

[Bug 425065] [NEW] gcalctool Gnome Calculator in "Programming mode" crashes on converting number bases

2009-09-05 Thread Delan Azabani
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 421001 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421001

Public bug reported:

When converting number bases using the GNOME Calculator (gcalctool, command
gnome-calculator), two things occur:
- When converting a hex number to decimal, the status area on the bottom says
"No sane value to convert" and the display doesn't change - meaning that even
hex values with A-F stay the same in "Dec" mode
- When converting that number back to hex, as a result, if it has A-F in it,
the application will crash.
