Daniel has added some fixes to alsa-plugins, which need testing. [Bug 221824] Re: dmraid 1.0.0.rc14-0ubuntu3 crashes on install
Ok, since the package in my ppa works, I'll now submit this for a stable release update. I have personally tested this on a recently obtained Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R board, with a JMicron controller, and can verify that this fix works. This fix can only be tested if one has a JMicron SATA/AHCI/RAID controller, which uses Fake/BIOS RAID with DMRaid. These controllers are also known as Gigabyte SATA controllers, at least on Gigabyte boards. With the current package, users are not able to make use of any data stored on fake RAID arrays set up by JMicron/Gigabyte SATA controllers, typically a windows installation, or other user data. TEST CASE: 1. Ensure you have at least 2 SATA disks attached to the JMicron controller. 2. Create either a RAID0, or RAID1 array on these two disks. 3. Boot into Ubuntu and either install the dmraid package if its not already installed, or attempt to run dmraid like so, sudo dmraid -ay in a terminal. Dmraid should crash in a similar fashion shown at the top of this bug report. 4. Now install the dmraid package with the fix applied, either from my PPA linked to earlier in the bug report, or from ahrdy-proposed once available. Dmraid shoudl activate and allow the use of the array. Regression potential: Applying this patch is only likely to affect the code that names the device nodes used to access the array. If the array can't properly be brought up, then there is no data loss, however the user cannot access the data on this array. Course of action for intrepid: A new upload will be made with the patch used for this stable release update as soon as intrepid opens. The patch will also be sent upstream. ** Attachment added: Debdiff with fix. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13975284/dmraid.debdiff -- dmraid 1.0.0.rc14-0ubuntu3 crashes on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 191557] Re: Main inclusion report.
As for possible problems with dmraid installed on machines, I would think it would only get installed if the user needs it for a setup, similar to the way lvm2 and mdadm are only installed when they are needed. Added to that, dmraid only sets up raid sets if it can find valid metadata on hard disks, written bya particular fakeraid bios. Even if it finds such metadata, since we now use UUIDs for root devices and other partitions, I don't think dmraid will cause a problem with causing partitions to be mounted from an incorrect device. -- Main inclusion report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191557 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm untagging this bug, as there is a work-around, which most people affected by this issue would do anyway. The workaround is simply to switch back to using metacity as the window manager. I have done this for the accessibility profiles on the hardy live CD, so it won't affect users. Ok, tested today with code to ensure pulseaudio doesn't run, and Orca loads, and accepts keyboard commands like it should, however it still doesn't speak. [Bug 203719] [NEW] Live CD boot issues with Jmicron/Intel SATA controllers on Gigabyte board.
Public bug reported: I have recently purchased a new machine, with a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R motherboard. This motherboard includes 2 disk controllers. An Intel ICH9R SATA controller, supporting up to 6 SATA ports, and a JMicron/Gigabyte SATA controller supporting 2 SATA, and 1 PATA ports. The BIOS allows both controllers to be configured in a couple of ways. For the intel controller, the setting to adjust the modes is the SATA RAID/AHCI Mode option, found in the integrated peripherals menu in the BIOS. This option can be set to either disabled, AHCI, or RAID. If set to Disabled, the Gigabyte BIOS detects and makes the connected devices available as any standard IDE device would be by any BIOS. When set to either AHCI or RAID, the Intel BIOS is loaded, and detects any connected devices. For the Jmicron controller, the option used to set the mode is the Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode option, again in the integrated peripherals menu of the BIOS. The options are IDE, AHCI, and RAID/IDE. IDE mode again allows the gigabyte BIOS to make devices available similar to the disabled mode for the Intel controller, and AHCI and RAID/IDE are the same as for the Intel controller. My DVD-ROM drive, A Pioneer DVR-115 is connected to the JMicron controller, via SATA. The device itself is a SATA DVD writer. When attempting to boot the latest Ubuntu hardy daily live CD, the following behavior is observed: * If the Intel controller is set to either RAID or AHCI, I am dropped to an initramfs prompt. * If the Intel controller is set to disabled, the disk boots normally. * The JMicron controller can be set to either AHCI, RAID/IDE, or RAID, and as long as the Intel controller is set to disabled, the disk boots normally. I am running the latest stable/non-beta BIOS for this board, and have 4 hard drives connected to the Intel controller, and as already stated, the DVD-ROM drive connected to the JMicron controller. One thing I noticed was differences in what the udevadm command gave for output for the CD/DVD device. When the Intel controller is in AHCI/RAID, the command /sbin/udevadm info -q name -p /block/sr0 returned sr0, whereas if the Intel controller was disabled/in IDE mode, the same command would return scd0. Attached are various logs of both a successful boot, and a failed boot, to help try and diagnose the issue. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Live CD boot issues with Jmicron/Intel SATA controllers on Gigabyte board. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203719 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Have you made sure this doesn't break the packages it depends on, such as ubuntu-dev-tools, and bzr-builddeb in particular?
