[Bug 1235016] [NEW] Auto display dimming shows brightness meter popup

[Bug 751689] Re: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'
I also had this problem repeatingly with different versions of Kubuntu. As it turns out, the reason for this, is not the fan, but rather a problem with the intel graphics driver which is not loaded correctly. On Kubuntu I always notice it when there is a problem to activate Desktop Effects. Currently I am running Oneric and with Oneric adding blacklist intel_ips to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf did the trick. Unfortunately I do not remember where I exactly found this trick. But it helps. Instead of having a basic 80-90 °C and sometimes more when the overheating appeared my CPU now has between 50-60°C, sometimes more, but overheating has not been a problem since then on my Thinkpad X201. I guess it will be again with the next Precise release, because new release of (K)Ubuntu always break a lot and need months until they are stable again. But for now everything is fine. I have to add that I am also running the Xorg-edgers ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg- edgers/+archive/ppa and a fresh kernel from there. But this alone did not help. Since I have lost the source of my information, I do not know if I forgot something, but I believe that is all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751689 Title: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/751689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 628657] Re: freezes for 10s when displaying long changelogs
The effects of this bug became more annoying with recent update-manager versions. Starting with Ubuntu 13.04, update-manager (Software Updater) was changed so that package names are no longer shown in the list. Only a one-line summary is shown, but sometimes that gives no clue as to what the package actually is; e.g. the summary could be something like Transitional dummy package. In order to show package names, you have to click Technical description, then on the Changes tab. As you click on each item in the list, you have to wait for the changelog to display, which takes ages and maxes out the CPU for longer changelogs (e.g. for new kernel versions). [Since 13.04 was only released recently however, currently most changelogs are quite short. Later in the cycle as changelogs get longer, that this will become more of a problem.] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/628657 Title: freezes for 10s when displaying long changelogs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/628657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1085398] [NEW] users-admin Advanced Settings window is too tall
Public bug reported: I'm testing Lubuntu 12.10 in a VirtualBox VM. The Desktop size is 1024x768 pixels. Run users-admin (System Tools - Users and Groups). The Users Settings window opens. Click Advanced Settings to open the Changed Advanced User Settings window. It is too tall to fit on the screen and the Cancel and OK buttons are off the bottom edge. The window doesn't need to be that tall (there's just empty space between the content and Cancel/OK buttons) and it's impossible for the user to reduce its height. I'd suggest fixing this so the window is fully usable even at 800x600 resolution. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Screenshot of desktop with Advanced Settings window open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1085398/+attachment/3449001/+files/users-admin_adv_settings.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1085398 Title: users-admin Advanced Settings window is too tall To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bug/1085398/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver
All 5 boots produced a usable X session. I haven't had a problem booting up successfully since the 1st. By cold boot I just mean a normal power on after a normal power off. In actual fact I haven't had to do a hard reset (or manually hold down the power button to power off and then power on again), with my current setup at all since the 1st of March, and even then it was rare that I would have to have done it before that. And just to go off topic a bit I find it amazing how quickly it does shut down, in seconds, it's really cool! I've done a few cold boots and restarts since then, I've included them in the attached file. I included all the Xorg log files in the first directory. The first four directories in the tar contain log files from cold boots, the last one is a reboot. Aha, perfect. So, it looks like the bug hit on boots 2, 3 and 4, the patch took effect and delayed the boot for 12 sec or so waiting on drm. There is the setversion 1.4 failed (which is the thing we're trying to avoid), but the rest of the log looks otherwise normal. Can you confirm whether boots 2, 3, 4 produced a usable X session or if it froze or crashed or something? By 'cold boot' do you mean you had to manually power cycle (hold down the power button)? If boots 2,3,4 worked, then I think we're golden. [Bug 775124] Re: Ubiquity should have a command line option to override the free space check
I wanted to install Lubuntu 12.10 to a 4GB USB flash drive, but the 12.10 installer refuses to work if the disk size is less than 4.4GB. That's a problem because Lubuntu would actually install fine on a 4GB USB drive, especially if the user chooses to not create a swap partition. But the installer doesn't let the user get past the I won't install on a 4.4GB disk stage. It's perfectly feasible to install Lubuntu to a 4GB flash drive; there would about 2GB free space after installation with no swap partition. Some suggestions: - Reduce the minimum allowable disk size and make it a recommendation, not mandatory. - When working out whether the drive is large enough for Lubuntu to be installed, take into account the size of any swap partition. Perhaps show a warning dialog if the user proceeds with a small drive, but don't prevent installation completely. Here are some space-used figures after I installed Lubuntu 12.10 to a 4.4GB VirtualBox VM: Filesystem 1K-blocksUsed Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda13766504 1911200 1663972 54% / Device StartEnd Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 2048 7655423 3826688 83 Linux /dev/sda2 7657470 9226239 784385 5 Extended /dev/sda5 7657472 9226239 784384 82 Linux swap / Solaris Note the swap size! With no swap partition there would be almost 2.5GB of free space. There would therefore be over 2GB of free space after installing to a 4GB USB stick/memory card, if the installer allowed it. [Bug 751689] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad x201s] Overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'
For me the issue is fixed in Saucy, by doing a few things. I am not sure if it is the combination or one of them did the trick: - Installing: intel-microcode - Update of the CPU-Firmware - running thinfan with the attached configuration (note: you must look for more detailed installation instructions on the net, the sensor settings are for a X201 only. You need to adjust them for other machines) - installing i965-va-driver - I also have updated my Bios to the latest version. But this was a while ago and did not help. But it may contribute to it. Before that I had an average temperature of 80 and quite often sudden peaks leading to 100 and a shutdown. Now I have a permanent temperature below 60 and only a few peeks above. What I am sure of is that it did not help to have thinkfan installed, did not help alone. I have to note that I am running a x201 and have an SSD. Switching from a hardrive to SSD did not change a thing. So I assume this solution works also with a harddrive. Before having this solution it helped to remove the battery to prevent the overheating from happening. ** Attachment added: thinkfan.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/751689/+attachment/3942865/+files/thinkfan.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751689 Title: [Lenovo Thinkpad x201s] Overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/751689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1207538] [NEW] misrendering of SVG files (clipping paths)
Public bug reported: Generating an SVG file using matplotlib, from pylab import * x = linspace(0,2,101) plot(x,x) xlim(0,1) savefig('test.svg') gives the SVG file attached. This file views fine in Inkscape, Firefox, Chromium. However in Ristretto the blue line is not clipped properly and extends past the right side of the plot. [Bug 1159513] Re: Banshee freezes on copying to iPod music which needs transcoding
Well, I was previously unable to transcode anything in 13.04x64 and 2.6.1. Having shouted at GStreamer for a few weeks I enabled proposed updates just now and I confirm it works on both my Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and several USB .is_audio_player enabled sticks using Mass Storage. Only issue appears that whilst it does actually transfer and transcode all the tracks - it appears not to stop. The lower left hand indicator still continues. [Bug 950675] Re: cannot select Mark for Removal after selecting Mark for Complete Removal
Yes, selecting Mark for Complete Removal after already selecting Mark for Removal does work correctly. The bug is that after selecting Mark for Complete Removal, selecting Mark for Removal does nothing (the status remains at Mark for Complete Removal, in other words). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950675 Title: cannot select Mark for Removal after selecting Mark for Complete Removal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/950675/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 944251] Re: Unwanted secret outbound connection
Guys, Just block the traffic altogether. You should be doing that anyway. Its just good security practice. On your ubuntu, linux, solaris server or whatever just blackhole all the traffic. Example: In Ubuntu just type the command: sudo ip route add blackhole 91.0.0.0/8 You can verify this with the route -n command. Now start blocking tons of traffic. There are different ways to block traffic but this is my favorite. No messages are sent back such as unreachables as with reject messages. Think about it for a second. If you send a reject message such as destination unreachable then didn't I just find out that there is a live device somewhere? Who cares if the icmp was successful or not. My whole point was network reconnaissance. So black hole all of your traffic and hide in the shadows :-) Here in the US I block all IP subnets out side of my country such as Russia, China and so forth. If there is a specific need then you can simply unblock the traffic when desired. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/944251 Title: Unwanted secret outbound connection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-datetime/+bug/944251/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
