[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
/me starts lurking around at [EMAIL PROTECTED] :) Another question. Do any of the other indexers out there work around this problem somehow? And if so, how? I mean, the problem is many small write():s and blocks being allocated directly during write() instead of at page flush time, right? Can't you merge several write operations together? Or maybe you already do that "1000-5000 words at a time"? If not, could the on disk format be changed to allow for merging several write():s together? Also, is it really necessary to fsync() so often? -- Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

"Since the cd will only appear, if the system was installed with the packages from the alternate cdrom" So... I don't follow you here... A "normal" installation will not prompt for the CD? If it doesn't, please ignore the rest of this entry. "It could be annoying for dial-up.users if we would trigger the internet connection every time." Well, now it's annoying for people with fast internet connections who have to insert the CD every time even though there's really no reason for them whatsovever to do so. [Bug 128690] Disable automatic resizing by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem What's the rationale for having automatic resizing enabled by default? I find it quite disruptive having the window "jump around" like that. My guess is that most users feel that way too. I don't know, moving controls and elements around without user initiation... is bad in general... I guess... most of the time... Also, Totem upstream doesn't do it. Well... it's not about keeping everybody happy. Moving controls around in a, to the user, seemingly random order just because someone who knows about video resolution complains that high resolution videos will be played in a very small window... that's just silly. Initial window size depend on the video resolution is probably bad too btw. Just let user's watch videos in the size they prefer. :) Perhaps the problem is that Totem's default window size is too small? Perhaps it could be set to something like 2/3 of the screen size instead of 466x436? [Bug 58430] Re: Command-line recovery required when fsck reports an unexpectedy inconsistency
fsck puts all data that can be salvaged in lost+found, right? [Bug 105881] Re: acer_acpi [Needs packaging]
Ok. :) Though I was actually wondering more about getting this working without having to install any extra packages, i.e. "out of the box". But maybe having a package in the first place is a step in that direction. :) (I don't really know how default installed kernel modules are handled package wise. May be that's related to the kernel or other upgrades. I will monitor this problem and report asap. Synaptic I used with Feisty, but 'I don't have installed yet under gutsy. Apt-get or aptitude I'm using rarely, only if some other people tell how to use. The internet connection is indeed a strange probleme, because everytime I'm opening adept related software, internet connection will break and I have to wait about more then one minute to establish it again. The description of the intel driver starts with "Experimentel modesetting...". So if i810 is obsolete I guess changing the text to something more informative for each driver would be useful. [Bug 198695] [NEW] [mplayer] major annoyances with pop-up error messages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mplayer I would like to request the removal of the graphical error messages from MPlayer that are apparently enabled by default in Ubuntu. It seems that everything that normally would go to the console is presented via a pop- up GUI-window instead when using the Ubuntu .deb package provided in Hardy. Example of these error messages are incomplete avi/sync errors, random codec messages (file plays fine, but displays "j-type picture is not supported" during given intervals) The most common are "header damaged" pop-ups which would be displayed a gazillion times for incomplete files that do play, but obviously this causes them to slow down. The problem is that all these errors all have to be acknowledged individually by clicking/dismissing them in order to continue watching the file. Since I've unsuccessfully scoured the MPlayer options and the web for ways to disable these, I can only conclude that they are enabled at compile-time. I've not seen this behaviour on other distros such as Gentoo, Fedora or RedHat. apt-cache policy mplayer: mplayer: Installed: 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu8 Candidate: 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu8 Version table: *** 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu8 0 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu1~gutsy1 0 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com gutsy-backports/multiverse Packages /etc/lsb-release: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)" ** Affects: mplayer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [mplayer] major annoyances with pop-up error messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
