[Bug 155619] I cannot set my screen resolution above [EMAIL PROTECTED] although my HW supports much better.
Public bug reported: I have just installed. At Ubuntu's prompt, I installed the Nvidia driver provided by the "wizard". (I really just sat and watched after clicking OK) During my installation, I found the prompts near impossible to follow because Ubuntu chose 800x600 which cut off the buttons at the bottom of each window. I only managed to install by shrinking the fonts and moving the top and bottom menu bars to the sides of the screen. Since installation of the Nvidia driver, the resolution panel offers me [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] My eyes are in pain as I type. I am using a Samsung 900nf CRT monitor (recognized by Ubuntu) capable of resolutions above 1600x1200. GPU is an integrated 6150 on an ASUS AMD board A8N-VM-CSM (I think) also capable of res above 640. I am new to linux and ubuntu so I am sorry if I have somehow missed something but I have tried quite hard to solve this and Ubuntu asked me if I wanted to report a "problem" so here we are. This is the full release of Ubuntu 7.10 for AMD 64 if that wasn't already clear. Is there more info I could provide? Thanks. I was unsure. I could only have called it Ubuntu. I will look into the link you sent. I am really hoping to explore Ubuntu after hearing so much about it. 50hz is very hard to bear though. thanks again, Nick Brian Murray wrote: > Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make > Ubuntu better. [Bug 155619] Re: I cannot set my screen resolution above [EMAIL PROTECTED] although my HW supports much better.
My apologies for the messy addition above. The problem is manifest in the main "desktop" portion of the Ubuntu experience but during the boot process, the screen resolution appears much higher for the Ubuntu logo. I will try uninstalling the Nvidia driver. -- I cannot set my screen resolution above [EMAIL PROTECTED] although my HW supports much better. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 144985] displayconfig-gtk crashed with IndexError in isResolutionSettingsChanged()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk I connected a Gateway lcd model fpd1985 monitor to my Dell xps M1330 using a vga cable. [Bug 216630] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 2.6.24-16-generic nvidia restricted kernel module fails to load
Yes! Running "sudo depmod" worked for me as well! For it to work, I booted to the troubled kernel, this case: 2.6.24-16-generic. After I got the "low graphic mode" screen in Gnome, I switched to one of the text consoles by pressing CTRLl + ALT + F2. I logged in and ran: $ sudo depmod $ I got no output. I guess that means it worked. [Bug 175449] Re: Eye of Gnome print fails
After more testing I can say that Foomatic/hpijs (another included printer driver that supports the Brother HL-5050) works fine. The problem only happens when the Foomatic/Postscript driver is used. Is the problem with the Postscript driver, my Brother printer or with Gnome? The answer isn't clear to me. What is clear to me is that the Default/Recommended setup for Ubuntu in this case is faulty and will continue to affect users if not fixed. Hopefully this issue will be fixed soon. I saw messages about fixing this issue by using the Brother driver but Brother's site isn't clear about how to do that. [Bug 185364] kde fails to init after updates (hardy alpha 3)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kde-core After a fresh alpha-3 install (kubuntu, kde3), on a Dell 6400, Radeon x1400 video, KDE works fine. I apt-get the fglrx-driver and modify my xorg.conf for the driver and desired resolution. Re-boot and all is still fine. KDE only breaks after I allow the updates to occur. I'm at a different computer now (XP) so I have to use my old wetware memory to describe the crash: KDE starts and gets as far as the second init token. It sits there for a long time, and then I'm back to the login screen. If I do a failsafe session, and manually do a startkde, I get a message about not being able to run kmserver. Here is the traceback: PythonArgs: ['/usr/sbin/simple-restore-gnome'] Traceback: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/sbin/simple-restore-gnome", line 409, in restore self._do_restore( self.src, self.src ) File "/usr/sbin/simple-restore-gnome", line 402, in _do_restore r.restore( tdir, src, dst ) File "/usr/share/sbackup/srestore.py", line 112, in restore shutil.move( os.path.join(tdir,spath), dpath ) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/shutil.py", line 199, in move copy2(src,dst) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/shutil.py", line 91, in copy2 copyfile(src, dst) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/shutil.py", line 46, in copyfile fsrc = open(src, 'rb') IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/nhilton/tmpnEQjrg/home/nhilton/development' After the crash, the temp dir "/home/nhilton/tmpnEQjrg" exists but is empty. [Bug 209314] Re: Crash "No Such File Or Directory"
This is NOT a bug, it turns out that the created archive was corrupt. Manually trying to extract the archive gave me a "unexpected end of file" on the files.tgz that sbackup made. Looking closer at it's size, files.tgz was exactly 2147483647, 1 byte short of 2GB. I bet this failure occurs when the archive is not extracted and there are no files to copy to the proper location. So perhaps the real bug is that sbackup is unable to create tgz files larger that 2GB? Maybe I didn't notice my backup failed on Ubuntu 7.10 when I created it. sbackup did successfully create an incremental backup using the "full" backup. I bet sbackup doesn't even check files.tgz when doing an incremental, but just checks what file versions have changed by looking at flist or something. So, the real bug is that sbackup is unable to create tgz files larger that 2GB! -- Crash "No Such File Or Directory" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 86307] Re: Weird behaviour with Beryl.
The behaviour I'm seeing here is that when FSP is set to "High" or "Extreme", invoking yakuake with F12 results in normal behaviour; the other half of the time, it shows up behind the front window. _Focus_ works as expected in all cases. Xprop indicates that there are no differences between the window in either case. -- Weird behaviour with Beryl. https://launchpad.net/bugs/86307 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 95706] Re: [apport] beryl crashed with SIGFPE in detectRefreshRateOfScreen()
OK, that's definitely the case. Can I ask for a little more information from you? Specifically, the graphics card and driver you're using, the "Device" and "Screen" sections from your xorg.conf, your /var/log/Xorg.0.log after the crash has happened, and the output of the command "xrandr"? I have a hackish patch that would work around the problem but this is either an Xrandr or driver problem, so it would be nice to get a proper fix. beryl-xgl was removed from the package at the request of the MOTU... [Bug 89786] Re: Desktop-effect does not enable cube
This bug is not fixed in the Beta. I did a clean install of the Fiesty Beta this morning and had to make the changes as suggested by the OP. Cube works great now. If Cube is going to be supported in Fiesty this needs to be fixed. Having a menu item called "Workspaces on a Cube" that doesn't actually do what it indicates it will do is not a good thing. -- Desktop-effect does not enable cube https://launchpad.net/bugs/89786 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 86307] Re: Weird behaviour with Beryl.
Oooh, lovely. It's actually a beryl-core bug, though, and I officially fail at launchpad. Meh. Workaround is, of course, FSP set to none, but the FSP code was taken (almost) verbatim from kwin, so it's interesting that kwin doesn't have the problem. [Bug 96401] Re: beryl crash on "feisty"
This error is common when another compositing manager is running (e.g. kompmgr) - only one compositor can be active at a time. If using KDE, try disabling "shadows and transparency" in kcontrol; also make sure the kompmgr process isn't running. If this is it, maybe we need $something in beryl-kubuntu to disable KDE's compositing effects by default? [Bug 95706] Re: [apport] beryl crashed with SIGFPE in detectRefreshRateOfScreen()
Looks like beryl-core is attempting to set a refresh rate of zero for the screen, which would be pretty bad. I can't reproduce here, but I think a temporary workaround would be to unselect 'detect refresh rate' in beryl-settings (General Options), which will cause rate in setRefreshRate to = 60. One suspects a bug in detectRefreshRateOfScreen(), or (more likely?) whatever mechanism it's using to get the refresh rate; I'll investigate further. -- [apport] beryl crashed with SIGFPE in detectRefreshRateOfScreen() https://launchpad.net/bugs/95706 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
