[Bug 147807] Re: vol_id: does not recognise FAT* partitions with sector size 8192
Well, the point was that *I* didn't format it. It came out of the box (from Seagate) formatted that way. It's really a none issue for me now - I gave up and reformatted the disk with different filesystem types :-) (Something I would have done early, but moving 200 Gb of data around was slightly fiddly on my current machine). However, I was slightly surprised that it worked with Edgy Eft (and had worked with my previous Gentoo install for quite a long time), and stopped working with Feisty Fawn - that's why I raised the issue. The fact that one manufacturer (who, it could be argued, should know better) is shipping disks with a bogus sector size is probably slightly worrying... on the other hand, they are shipping them, and users will plug them in and find that Linux doesn't see the disk whereas Windows does, and say Linux doesn't recognise my hard disk. (vol_id is being safely paranoid, but I wonder if the check could be relaxed a little, regardless of what the spec says.) For what it's worth, blkid did report the information correctly. Anyway, as I said, I have fixed the problem locally by other means, so it no longer affects me. [Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume
It may be worth noting that looking to other new or upcoming releases of other distros is not going to help. Although I initially was frustrated with Ubuntu (and yes, there are other suggestions for improved communication of the problem to users), the frustration should be pointed towards AMD as CONFIG_SLUB=y is going to appear in every distro coming down the pike.. Fedora 8 has it on by default as well. So, on the bright side, maybe the next monthly drop of fglrx (coming soon?) will have a fix for latest (2.6.23 or greater) kernel support (which is really the root fix), and if not, hopefully they will soon hear it from every distro user (fedora, ubuntu, openSuSE at some point?) that they must be compatible with the slub allocator. -- [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121653 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 102097] Re: Auto mount does not work for USB drive
Sadly, I've still got the problem. I know *where* the problem is in my case, but no idea how to fix it :-( (See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/118292) It comes down to vol_id not recognising a vfat partition: the device entry is created, and I can mount it by hand: $ sudo mount -o ro -t vfat /dev/sdg1 /mnt works fine. But, /sbin/vol_id shows: $ vol_id /dev/sdg1 /dev/sdg1: unknown volume type Of course, the system *can* recognise the partition properly if you use a different command: $ blkid /dev/sdg1 /dev/sdg1: LABEL=SEA_DISK UUID=-0ED4 TYPE=vfat So as 118292 says, it's a udev (vol_id) bug (possibly under Ubuntu). I am somewhat loath to do the workarounds suggested (especially rewriting vol_id as a shell script), but unless somebody decides to fix it properly, I don't see much choice. I've been living with this bug since Feisty broke Edgy, and Gutsy is no better (yet :-), but it's a bit of a pain... -- Auto mount does not work for USB drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 102097] Re: Auto mount does not work for USB drive
Ok, having read the vol_id source code, and dumped out my header for /dev/sdg1 (my external disk) I think I have an idea what the problem is: The SEAGATE drive I have has a single partition over its 250Gb. This has a sector size of 0x2000 (according to the disk header). vol_id internally sanity checks the allowed sector sizes for a FAT* disk to be one of: 0x200, 0x400, 0x800, or 0x1000. This check fails. The partition is therefore rejected as a FAT volume. Simple fix would be to add 0x2000 as a valid sector size... -- Auto mount does not work for USB drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 147807] udev vol_id does not recognise FAT* partitions with sector size 8192
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev Since upgrading from Edgy Eft to Feisty Fawn I have been unable to automount my external USB 250Gb SEAGATE harddrive. I've been subscribed to a number of bugs on related problems, but not seen a solution. This weekend I tried Gutsy, and still no joy so I decided to dig deeper. (I've posted some of the following to 102097, but I thought it might be clearer as a separate report.) The problem boils down to vol_id not recognising the partition as VFAT. I've looked at the source code, and I think the problem is in udev-113/extras/volume_id/lib/fat.c at around line 328: /* sector size check */ sector_size = le16_to_cpu(vs-sector_size); if (sector_size != 0x200 sector_size != 0x400 sector_size != 0x800 sector_size != 0x1000) return -1; Dumping out the header for the partition, I calculate that the sector_size on the partition is 0x2000 - which means that the partition is rejected on the FAT* checks. Any chance of a fix? Pretty please? pihl ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- udev vol_id does not recognise FAT* partitions with sector size 8192 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

this is most likely bug 121653.. a problem with fglrx (ATI binary driver) and the new SLUB allocator. Re: [Bug 127324] Re: Gutsy t3 hangs during partition resizing (live cd install)
I've upgraded to the beta from tribe 6 so I didn't get a chance to check out the live cd. I'll do that tomorrow. [Bug 152164] Wrong value given to requires lib=... with custom widget catalog
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: glade-3 Version 3.2.0 - When glade-3 is used with custom widgets, it tries to save the name of the lib containing the widgets in the .glade file, via requires lib=..., e.g. require lib=GtkMud/ The value for lib is being taken from the name attribute instead of the library attribute. e.g. the catalog looks like : glade-catalog name=GtkMud library=gtkmud-widgets depends=gtk+ ... /glade-catalog The correct value should of course be gtkmud-widgets, so that libglade tries to open gtkmud-widgets.so, instead of: (gtkmud:1195): libglade-WARNING **: Could not load support for `GtkMud': libGtkMud.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory My 'work-around' is to link my app against a static version of my widget library - I get an error message, but can still create my widgets. ** Affects: glade-3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Wrong value given to requires lib=... with custom widget catalog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing
compaq wl-100 is (if I read it correctly) removed from the orinoco_cs support list. This would be a bad thing as the compaq wl-100 only works with the orinoco_cs driver. the hostap* set does not work (at present). -- [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125832 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing
This is the compaq wl100. it matches my pcmcia card. - PCMCIA_DEVICE_MANF_CARD(0x0138, 0x0002), /* Compaq WL100 11 Mbps Wireless Adapter */ I think the problem is that hostap is supposed to work for this and other cards, but it does not seem to for many of us blessed with this or similar cards. I also have to blacklist hostap_cs and hostap so it does not take control. I should add that orinoco_cs in 2.6.20-16 (the last kernel it seemed to be in from ubuntu) does not work as well as it once did, but this could just be me. I can make it work even if I have to ifdown and ifup it occasionally. -- [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125832 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
