It does seem outlandish, but it is kind of cool. Is it going to give
enough 3d speed? The next gen tegra is supposed to have a 24 core GPU.

If you can quantify what "enough 3D speed" means, then perhaps that can
be assessed. There really aren't many applications around at the moment
to make this an issue. I'd be more interested in it's ability to decode
1080p.

Then again - it's FPGA! You can load a different "firmware" depending on
whether you need 1080p decoding or 3D rendering, or some other kind of
specialized DSP offload with only bare minimal VGA. :)

Personally, I think OGP would be worth it even if just for the fact that
we would no longer have to beg (in vain) the vendors for decent drivers
or published specs. The added flexibility on top is just a "free extra". :)

Patch Pilot Report 11-08-21

2011-08-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hi,

Those are the notes of the sponsoring I did yesterday

* Bug #771114: gnubik version 2.3-2 failed to build on amd64 with
GCC-4.6/oneiric
the fix looks good and has been sent to debian for some weeks, sponsored

* Bug #829819: Spelling Errors in Control file
typo in the control description for a package in sync with Debian, asked
the submitter to submit the patch to Debian if possible so we stay on
sync

* lp:~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/oneiric/ifupdown/oneiric-201108091411
seems like a commit dropped by error, pinged Colin who did the upload
that dropped it to confirm it should be added back

*
lp:~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/oneiric/python-defaults/oneiric-201107292209
deleted, the change commited to the vcs was dropped but is not required
with the python2.6 update

* lp:~wibblymat/ubuntu/oneiric/ettercap/merge-debian-0.7.3-2.2
build fix for the next grep version but it fails to build due to what
looks like -as-needed error, set it as Work in progress

* lp:~om26er/ubuntu/natty/unity/unity-fix-769703-3
sponsored sru to backport a fix for dnd in qt applications blocking the
unity launcher

* lp:~scarneiro/ubuntu/oneiric/vdkbuilder2/fix-for-756079
no change rebuild to close a ftbfs issue, cleaned no upload is required
there

* 825070: please remove glade-3 from the oneiric archives
commented, it seems the source is still required for its gtk2 library

* 825063: Please remove python-pybabel from the oneiric archives
confirmed

* lp:~evfool/update-notifier/fixwording
pinged mvo about it

* lp:~wibblymat/ubuntu/oneiric/couchdb/update-to-1.1.0
couchdb update to 1.1.0, set to work in progress since Daniel already
pointed some issues on the bug and that it would require a ffe before
being updated (as well as some mir due to new build-depends)

* lp:~jamesodhunt/ubuntu/oneiric/upstart/fixes-for-user-sessions
set to merge, the work got uploaded a while back, the upstart vcs is
outdated of 2 revisions though, pointed that to mvo and slangasek who
did the upload and the most recent vcs commits

* lp:~rodrigo-moya/ubuntu/oneiric/accountsservice/fix-810907

It is probably more sane then my idea of just having a test suite from
digital video out -> digital video receiver/capture card to get known
test results. Then you could set up a hinted genetic algorithm based
on a comparison. It would only work with digital video signals though.

Dear Developers,
Just a reminder that we'll be entering User Interface Freeze[1] as
well as Beta Freeze[2] this Thursday (August 25th)[3] at 21OO UTC.

   The user interface must be stabilized so that documentation writers
and translators can work on a fixed target that doesn't obsolete
screenshots or documentation.

   Beta Freeze is necessary so we can stabilize the archive and the
archive administrators can get the inconsistencies resolved.

   Thank you for your cooperation on getting those bug fixes for beta
and last user interface tweaks made before this Thursday.

Kate,

something like:

1. [for 4.6] copy '/etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu to
'~/.config/xdg/menus' and customize it.

2. [for 4.6] You can also
create desktop entries in '~/.local/share/applications' to override the
existing applications (change or hide) or add new ones.

3. [for 4.6] http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu

4. For Xfce 4.8, 'sudo apt-get install alacarte --no-install-recommends'
in a terminal will let you use an editor to change the menus.

Minutes

Review ACTION points from previous meeting

As Somer has sadly announced he does not have sufficient time to continue his
excellent work on the docs, kim0 is going to help us by working to create a new
community around documentation.

Regarding oneiric images not booting on hvm instances, smb had a test image
fixing that problem.

Oneiric Development

With everyone sprinting the previous week, our bug list had grown again. Both
the triage report and server release bug lists needed work. Daviey said that
feature freeze exceptions need to be raised for every feature not yet landed.

Ubuntu Server Team Events

lynxman and company are sprinting next week for openstack and orchestra.
Linuxcon is this week.

Weekly Updates & Questions for the Kernel Team (smb)

smb was wondering whether the rename of xvd to sd patch should be reverted on
maverick as well. smoser was not comfortable with that, they will discuss
further.

Weekly Updates & Questions for the QA Team (hggdh)

hggdh asked, (1) "are there any new tests we should run on the ISO tracker?"
and (2) "what is the status of openstack & companions?". Daviey said we need
more tests, and hopefully Jamespage will be able to help with that soon.
Jamespage started a list of openstack testing at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/Oneiric/OpenStackTestPlan.

Updates & Questions from the Ubuntu Community

Daviey asked anyone in the community interested in helping to make Ubuntu
server rock even more to ping him.

FFe for build-system changes

2011-08-23 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi,

The release team would like to see build-system changes (e.g. dh_python2
transitions) go through the Freeze Exception process. They are are
changes that can easily introduce bugs without causing an obvious build
failure, and it's a good idea to have them looked over by a second set
of eyes. [0]

In the case of dh_python2 transitions, a motivation for the transition
isn't necessary (it's a release goal), but we'd like to get a chance to
preview the changes. As usual, please attach: a debdiff, a buildlog, and
debc output.

Thanks,

SR
